RE: New Best Deck in the Format?

I'm disappointed at the lack of Donphan.

dmaster out.

RE: New Best Deck in the Format?

Donchamp is definitely top tier, possibly BDIF; machamp prime breaks the magic numbers and dominates the game so much when it comes out it's not even funny. It's possible the optimal deck in this format will be a dedicated Machamp build with fewer/no Donphan, but I assure you Machamp will be HUGE.

RE: New Best Deck in the Format?

someone said to me straight donphan is great
w/ seeker and circulator to disrupt
lost remover to remove DCE etc...

RE: New Best Deck in the Format?

Straight donphan straight loses to Reshiram, and can even be beaten by the stage 1s in water decks. While you can recover quickly, the former recovers faster, and the latter can set up and absolutely destroy you. Straight donphan is definitely NOT the play in this format, as much as it is a hate deck for Zekrom. Even Zekrom can destroy you on a lot of starts though, acing your starter and using Black Belt to pick up any donphans that make it out, though if there's more than one or two they're dead.

RE: New Best Deck in the Format?

machamp is sloooooooowwwwwwww. This next format is going to see ALOT of yellow on the field. Just like people have been saying SP players won't know how to play a slower meta, I'm saying SP players will play zekromdonk. It's the closest thing to SP in the new format other than maybe donphan. Sure, machamp can hit for 150, but it takes 4 energy and your field to be hit. By the time donphan uses earthquake to hurt the field and give machamp the needed energy, donphan is dead.

RE: New Best Deck in the Format?

anything that needs to evolve is going to lose to things like zekromdonk or reshiram because they can hit T1 when the opponent only has 60 HP basics and they hit for 120...

RE: New Best Deck in the Format?

^zekrom will be strong the whole game. with revive, potion, moomoo milk, *insert thing that heals* in the meta zekrom can recover from the 40 it takes and the damage it takes from the other poke

don't be so ignorant. and the fact that we havnt even seen tournament play yet.

stage 2's will not ALWAYS LOSE. against zekrom and reshiram.

RE: New Best Deck in the Format?

This thread makes me lol. Every deck with a semi-viable strategy will be tier 1, according your good at deck building. If your not the greatest at deck building, it becomes increasingly hard to go far at Nats/Worlds. You also need to be able to outplay your opponent consistently enough so you can beat your not so great matchups, like BlastiGatr vs Zekrom/Yanmega. Matchup seems un-winnable right? Blastoise snipes the Yanmega and whenever they ko anything bring up Gatr and ko the Zekrom back with Hydro Crunch. This also enforces your deckbuilding skills because you need to be able to get it off consistently enough, while also beating your worst matchups by having more resources(in this case energy to be able to snipe and then hydro crunch).

This format is kind of rock paper scissor, but with all this room in the decks you can tech things out, and keep most consistancy, to cover your matchups.

RE: New Best Deck in the Format?

@ kittymew
he said straight donphan loses to reshiram
is that true?
if it is i will stop running donphan as my deck

RE: New Best Deck in the Format?

Honestly, straight donphan straight loses to most things, I've even seen Zekrom pull that match out more often than not, simply because it recovers faster. Admittedly it needs a good draw and has to be running black belts (which it's already running pokegears to go get, at least in serious builds), but it's definitely not an autowin. Straight donphan is just bad. 4 donphans is nice to have, but you need something to actually win the game with while it tanks and threatens for you. Machamp is the best stage 2 in the format right now, and straight up wins games when it hits the board due to its massive bulk and damage output. It also combos very well with Donphan. Obvious deck is obvious?

I don't know if donchamp is BDIF but it's definitely tier 1, definitely beats Zekrom, and definitely threatens Reshiram (which also seems to beat Zekrom or at least goes even with the right build). I need to test more against optimized Zekrom builds.

how the heck can you possibly hit for 120 with reshiram T1? with the new rules it's literally impossible to evolve first turn which means neither typhlosion nor emboar will be able to be set up to tech the two fire energies in, and with the attack being two fire and one colorless, there's no way you can do that.

Zekrom could hit 120 T1 thanks to shaymin and pachirisu (pachirisu to find 2 lightning to attach to it, then use shaymin to move them to zekrom and attach the 1 energy of the turn to zekrom for all 3 energies being there thanks to only needing three basics T1 and 3 lightning energies, which is easy with collector, dual ball, energy search, etc.)

if you found a way to do something similar with reshiram, please let me know. I think both reshiram and zekrom are going to be huge this next format because both of them have stage 2 hp and power, but they're basics. donphan will be big to counter reshiram, as well as machamp for late-game, and blastigatr will be big to counter reshiram. Lostgar of course will be huge as an outside class from the loop of fighting, lightning and water with fire types thrown in every once in a while. cincinno will be huge as well to counter lostgar...not only will keeping your pokemon out of your hand help you in not being lost world'd out, but it also increases your attacks.

RE: New Best Deck in the Format?

ok maybe its your opinion for donphan prime being not a good deck
but for me donphan prime is a solid stage 1 hits hard T2
and it can also recover fast

RE: New Best Deck in the Format?

switch, seeker, healed. send out a donphan that can use its second attack so you don't damage your benched phanpy though.

healed, and one turn later, evolved and energied up to earthquake all game.

also, having donphans benched means no bench damage from earthquake, nulling machamp's attack.
