So I am about to start playing White 2. (Finished my Black 2) I had a thought about how people name their character when starting their Pokemon journey each time. Is it different for you each time, or do you just name him/her after yourself? Tell us what inspires the decision of naming the protagonist in your game!

RE: Naming your character in Pokemon games

I usually use my own name or a variation of it for a game I will not start over. Other times, like nuzlock, something cool like Batman but if I cant think of anything it is usually "...".

RE: Naming your character in Pokemon games

I name after myself mostly, although in Leafgreen, I name my character 'Red'

RE: Naming your character in Pokemon games

I normally just name the character as my nickname because I rarely think it's that important. I've also named it as the protagonist's name before (Rosa, Hilda, etc).

dmaster out.

RE: Naming your character in Pokemon games

^I sure hope no one else did that awful mistake of naming their BW trainer Hilbert or Hilda. Why did Trollfreak even choose those names?

As for me, I just use a name I find interesting at the time. I used to name them after myself/sister, but it got old quick.

Here's a list:
Red: ASH (bought it used)
Blue: KEVIN (used)
Yellow: ASH (I was young, sounded cool)
Crystal: JOSH (corrupted and lost memory and save)
Silver: LEN (used)
Sapphire: SEAN (used)
LeafGreen: DAVID (my first ever game, of course I name it after myself)
FireRed: ABBY (sister, it was a female character)
XD-GoD: ABBY (she typed in the name and saved it while I was away from the controller, I kept it)
Colosseum: SETH (used, completed by myself)
Emerald: HIKERBO (I wanted Hiker Bob, but stupid me couldn't count spaces and saved it like that)
Diamond: LEON (first one I chose a new name in)
Pearl: DYLAN (same)
Platinum: SPARTAN (I had just heard of This Is Sparta and thought it had an N at the end *facepalm*)
HeartGold: KYLE
White (first copy): Storm (finally learned about no caps)
White (second copy): ELI (used, this kid did not know)
White 2: Aspen (decided to be a girl for the first time in awhile)

RE: Naming your character in Pokemon games

I alternate between male and female protagonists when I pick a game, each time picking the one I think looks better. Then, after I choose the gender, I think of a name. Usually, the name I pick is the name of a character from another game or franchise that I like.

Here are examples:

LeafGreen: Amy (Sonic the Hedgehog)
Emerald: Bass (Mega Man)
Diamond: Forte (see above)
Pearl: Star (okay this isn't anything I just randomly thought it up)
Platinum: Iris (Golden Sun)
HeartGold: Isaac (Golden Sun)
Black 1: Lyon (Fire Emblem)
White 2: Ignis (BlazBlue)

For any games that aren't main-series Pokemon (either spinoffs or non-Pokemon games completely), if I pick a name for my character, I usually just pick "DNA" and I'm done with it.

RE: Naming your character in Pokemon games

Black: Black
White: White
Black 2: Twoson
White 2: Tootie

RE: Naming your character in Pokemon games

I used to name my character ASH in the past, but when I got bored of him, I just began using my own name. I don't really care about it, so I didn't become creative.
Blue: ASH
Gold: AS (Blame my friend who gave Gold to me)
Emerald: ASH
Pearl: Bill
Heartgold: Bill
White: Bill
Black 2: Bill

RE: Naming your character in Pokemon games

I named my female character Hilda in my bw1 cartridge file.

...not touching "hilbert" with a 10 foot pole though

RE: Naming your character in Pokemon games

I've been pretty unoriginal, having named every single character since Blue version, "Ash". I always loved roleplaying the star of the shows and clearly I've never strayed from it.

I also never nickname my Pokémon, I guess I'm just anal about that stuff. luls

DNA said:
Emerald: Bass (Mega Man)
Diamond: Forte (see above)

<3

I usually just go with Jake, but for B/W, I used the Japanese name for the male player, Touya, just in spite of the fact that his American name was Hilbert.

RE: Naming your character in Pokemon games

If I play Male: Deric

If I play Female: Any anime girl not from Pokemon that I am currently watching and liking.

RE: Naming your character in Pokemon games

I just choose random names. The first thing that comes to my mind. I've just a couple of times my name.

RE: Naming your character in Pokemon games

I mostly just use my name. My most recent name in Black 2 is Rooster, after my college radio DJ name, Red Rooster. I like it, so I might stick with that from now on.

RE: Naming your character in Pokemon games

There was this one time that I named myself after my favorite gym leader and tried to assemble a team exactly like his but usually I just name them after myself or Locke if I'm playing Nuzlocke.

RE: Naming your character in Pokemon games

I either use my name or 9Tailz. I have no creativity.

RE: Naming your character in Pokemon games

I've been using my name since Emerald. I used ASH in Red, Gold, Crystal, and LeafGreen, and SEAN in Sapphire (a friend named their character that, no idea what logic I had in also using it).

RE: Naming your character in Pokemon games

I like naming them comet and star or every once in a while hunter.

RE: Naming your character in Pokemon games

I use Seth. For some reason.... I don't know why, I like that name. Every game I play, I name it seth

RE: Naming your character in Pokemon games

Diamond: Nick (my own name)
Platinum: Corey (?)
SoulSilver: Nick
White and Black 2: blargh
