OU: Strategy Counter that Pokemon (Round 30)

RE: Counter that Pokemon (Round 20)

Cinesra said:
You assume it has a Quiver Dance up. A counter who can't beat it after a QD is a shit counter aka a check at best.

If I'm understanding this correctly, this would imply that you wait until it uses Quiver Dance before switching into the counter. If so, what's the point in having a counter if you're not using it as intended, especially when the pokemon being countered has a buffing move?

But if not, and the counter is switched in on the turn it uses Quiver Dance, then yes, I agree that a check that can't handle a +1 Volcarona after Stealth Rock is not good at all.

RE: Counter that Pokemon (Round 20)

To clarify, you assume it sets up a Quiver Dance on the switch.

RE: Counter that Pokemon (Round 20)

One Approved has won 4 points for his counter.

Cinesra has won 1 point for his counter. Why flirt with the burn?

Equinox has won 1 point for his counter.
Normally while 252+ SpA Life Orb Volcarona Fire Blast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Talonflame: 179-211 (60.2 - 71%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock would be a problem, Gale Wings ensures you get Roost off first even if Volcarona tries to go for Fire Blast.
So... Are you assuming they use QD on the switch? Because as PP pointed out, you're OHKO'd on the switch without time to Roost. And then if they do QD, you'll be having a hard time outpacing them with Roost (though you could just KO with Brave Bird and knock yourself out in the process). Does check just fine if you do happen to switch into Bug Buzz or Quiver Dance and don't mind taking the potential knock out.

Professor Palutena has won 1 point for his counter.

ELC has won 2 points for his counter.

Round 21
006.gif

Charizard @ Charizardite Y
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Fire Blast
- Solar Beam
- Focus Blast
- Dragon Pulse

Round ends 2/24.
I'll do my best to edit the OP ASAP.

RE: Counter that Pokemon (Round 21)

[animate]chansey[/animate]
Chansey @Eviolite
Trait: Natural Cure
Bold
4 HP/252 Def/252 SpDef
~Softboiled
~Seismic Toss
~Toxic
~Aromatherapy/Stealth Rock/filler

I mean... I hate the pink blobs, but it's kinda of difficult to hard counter something like Charizard when it's got super good type coverage and weather at its back. Also @King Xerneas: are those calcs factoring in Multiscale? Because if Stealth Rock is up, Multiscale becomes irrelevant, and you get outsped and 2HKO'd by dragon pulse.

RE: Counter that Pokemon (Round 21)

I'm gonna become boring, and I don't like my counter either, but I really can't think of anything else.

blissey.gif

Blissey @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpD
Bold Nature
- Wish
- Protect
- Seismic Toss
- Toxic

252 SpA Charizard Fire Blast vs. 4 HP / 252 SpD Blissey in Sun: 153-181 (23.4 - 27.7%) -- 8.9% chance to 4HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Charizard Focus Blast vs. 4 HP / 252 SpD Blissey: 148-176 (22.6 - 26.9%) -- 0.3% chance to 4HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

Even MegaZard can't break through this disgrace of a Pokemon. Protect and Wish keep Blissey up, and then you can choose to Toxic Stall, PP stall, or be merciful and throw a few Seismic Tosses around and be done with it.

RE: Counter that Pokemon (Round 21)

goodra.gif

Goodra @ Assault Vest
Ability: Sap Sipper
EVs: 250 HP / 252 SpA / 16 Spd
Calm Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Sludge Wave
- Fire Blast
- Earthquake

252 SpA Mega Charizard Y Dragon Pulse vs. 240 HP / 0+ SpD Assault Vest Goodra: 92-110 (24.1 - 28.8%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Stealth Rock

252 SpA Mega Charizard Y Focus Blast vs. 240 HP / 0+ SpD Assault Vest Goodra: 66-78 (17.3 - 20.4%) -- possible 5HKO after Stealth Rock

252 SpA Mega Charizard Y Fire Blast vs. 240 HP / 0+ SpD Assault Vest Goodra in Sun: 67-79 (17.5 - 20.7%) -- guaranteed 5HKO after Stealth Rock

252 SpA Goodra Draco Meteor vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mega Charizard Y: 168-198 (56.5 - 66.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Alright let's try this with another dragon. So Charizard is tough counter as it is, but Goodra here can at least take a few hits (more than Dragonite) thanks to its high Special Defense and its AV. Draco Meteor may leave you fairly low in power after attacking twice with it, but switching out at the end would be ideal once Mega-zard Y has been dealt with.

RE: Counter that Pokemon (Round 21)

Mega Altaria @ Altarianite
Ability: Pixilate
EVs: 252 HP / 104 Def / 156 SpD
Bold Nature
- Hyper Voice
- Roost
- Heal Bell
- Earthquake

252 SpA Mega Charizard Y Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 152 SpD Mega Altaria in Sun: 130-153 (36.7 - 43.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock

Altaria has Roost to heal off the damage and so Charizard won't win unless it gets a crit. Hyper Voice is a 5HKO.

And just for fun, Altaria eases prediction if you don't know it's MegaZard Y. If you're anticipating a Dragon Dance MegaZard X, Altaria beats it with Hyper Voice (2HKO) and Flare Blitz recoil.

RE: Counter that Pokemon (Round 21)

politoed.gif

Politoed @ Damp Rock
Ability: Drizzle
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Scald
- Toxic
- Encore
- Hypnosis

252 SpA Mega Charizard Y Solar Beam (60 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Politoed in Rain: 112-132 (29.1 - 34.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock

252 SpA Mega Charizard Y Focus Blast vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Politoed: 110-130 (28.6 - 33.8%) -- 99.2% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock

252 SpA Mega Charizard Y Dragon Pulse vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Politoed: 78-92 (20.3 - 23.9%) -- 63.7% chance to 4HKO after Stealth Rock

252 SpA Mega Charizard Y Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Politoed in Rain: 37-44 (9.6 - 11.4%) -- possible 8HKO after Stealth Rock

4 SpA Politoed Scald vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mega Charizard Y in Rain: 212-252 (71.3 - 84.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

RE: Counter that Pokemon (Round 21)

Politoed can't switch in on a regular Charizard to counter it due to how mega evolution works. It can mega evolve after Politoed switches in to remove the rain.

RE: Counter that Pokemon (Round 21)

talonflame.gif

Talonflame @ Leftovers
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpD / 8 Spe
Careful Nature
- Brave Bird
- Roost
- Taunt
- Swords Dance

252 SpA Mega Charizard Y Fire Blast vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Talonflame in Sun: 143-168 (39.8 - 46.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

0 Atk Talonflame Brave Bird vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Mega Charizard Y: 133-157 (44.7 - 52.8%) -- 23.8% chance to 2HKO

You live a Fire Blast after SR with a few percent left and then you can recover with priority Roost before setting up on it and killing Charizard.

RE: Counter that Pokemon (Round 21)

Posting to say sorry for not getting the update posted. Had a ton of school projects this week and am still playing catch up. I won't be able to have the next round up until Friday.

RE: Counter that Pokemon (Round 21)

One Approved has won 2 points for his counter.

Chaos Jackal has won 2 points for his counter.

King Xerneas has won 2 points for his counter.

Professor Palutena has won 2 points for his counter.

Scattered Mind has won 1 point for his counter. I guess you check if Hypnosis hits? :p

Cinesra has won 4 points for his counter. Hard to pick between this and Altaria, but Talon has the ability to set up well enough on Chari.

Round 22
keldeo.gif

Keldeo @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Justified
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Hidden Power [Electric]
- Secret Sword
- Icy Wind

Round ends 3/7.
There shouldn't be any further complications with future rounds, this week just really rushed up on me.

RE: Counter that Pokemon (Round 21)

Venusaur (M) @ Venusaurite
Trait: Overgrow
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Careful/Sassy Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Leech Seed
- Curse
- Knock Off
- Synthesis

On the turn Venusaur switches in: 252 SpA Keldeo Icy Wind vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Venusaur: 88-104 (24.1 - 28.5%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Stealth Rock
252 SpA Keldeo Secret Sword vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Venusaur: 81-96 (22.2 - 26.3%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Stealth Rock

After Venusaur mega evolves (still count SR right?)

252 SpA Keldeo Icy Wind vs. 252 HP / 0+ SpD Thick Fat Mega Venusaur: 48-58 (13.1 - 15.9%) -- possible 6HKO after Stealth Rock
252 SpA Keldeo Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 0+ SpD Mega Venusaur: 69-82 (18.9 - 22.5%) -- 1.5% chance to 4HKO after Stealth Rock

And don't tell me the set isn't viable, because I could put this set in against many of the selected Pokemon that we have had to counter in the past, and easily come on top 1v1. While Knock Off is the only attacking move, all Venusaur has to do is use Curse for the +6 and get rid of Keldeo with Knock Off, heck Leech Seed practically takes care of healing for Venusaur and provides extra damage. And lols regardless of a crit, Venusaur still has Synthesis.

RE: Counter that Pokemon (Round 21)

God forbid equinox ever uses a normal set jk I love you bro. (but I still say that set isn't viable lol!)

[animate]venusaur[/animate] @venusaurite
Trait: overgrow
EVs: 252 HP/240 SpDef/16 Spe
~Giga Drain
~Sludge Bomb
~Synthesis
~Sleep Powder

Calcs: see above post. Does this count as "different enough" or nah? just lmk, if not I'll change

RE: Counter that Pokemon (Round 21)

Keeper pick SubCM next time. ;)

Also don't think that set is viable but I don't feel like getting into an argument about it so I won't get into it.

Latias @ Life Orb
EVs: 72 HP / 184 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
Ability: Levitate
- Draco Meteor
- Defog
- Psyshock
- Roost

Icy Wind does 30-35.7%. Psyshock does 96.5% at minimum.

Latias and Latios are the main reasons why Keldeo loves Pursuit support and this set illustrates why that's the case.

hahaha love ya too. The only difference between my (isharingan's) set is yours outright KOs Keldeo while mine sweeps the whole team. P.S. Try the set, while it doesnt look viable on paper it is in practice Teapot ;)

Azumarill @ Assault Vest
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 240 HP / 252 Atk / 16 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Aqua Jet
- Waterfall
- Play Rough
- Knock Off

252 SpA Keldeo Hidden Power Electric vs. 240 HP / 16 SpD Assault Vest Azumarill: 102-122 (25.4 - 30.4%) -- 6.5% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock

252 SpA Keldeo Hydro Pump vs. 240 HP / 16 SpD Assault Vest Azumarill: 70-83 (17.4 - 20.6%) -- possible 5HKO after Stealth Rock

252 SpA Keldeo Secret Sword vs. 240 HP / 0 Def Azumarill: 84-99 (20.9 - 24.6%) -- 91.8% chance to 4HKO after Stealth Rock

252 SpA Keldeo Icy Wind vs. 240 HP / 16 SpD Assault Vest Azumarill: 23-28 (5.7 - 6.9%) -- possibly the worst move ever

252+ Atk Huge Power Azumarill Play Rough vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Keldeo: 390-458 (120.7 - 141.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO
