I think it's pretty much confirmed that it's 7th gen because they were flashing logo of the pairs of games that introduced each gen leading to 2016 Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon.
BTW, am I the one who notice the diamond mark on the "n" of the Japanese logos could be referring to a new mechanic. Remember black in X and Y, one of the two marks that make up the "n" of the Japanese logos was the symbol for Mega.

Hay If anyone has time look at the symbols for Pokemon sun and Moon They look like Lunatone and Solrock could they be a part of the story in these games?

I don't think so. That's probably just a coincidence with the logos when placed alongside Lunatone/Solrock.

These games should have an entire region of new Pokemon, but as of right now it hasn't been confirmed that these are the first games of the 7th Generation.

Straight from Pokemon.com:

"Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon are coming out for systems in the Nintendo 3DS family in holiday 2016, with a new world, new Pokémon, and new adventures to discover!"

That was the first place that came to my mind after I saw the pic with the building and the square... It's the most famous casino in Monte Carlo (left) and a super luxurious hotel (right)... Monte Carlo is in Europe in Monaco...
Monaco --> Southern France --> Southern Kalos ???

Wait...if RBY are now compatible with Bank, that's gonna create some bizarre, unique move sets for the Metagame. Bubblebeam Nidoking, here I come!
I thought about that too. I'd also want to test putting MissigNo in there, but I don't want to break my game just in case.

We're going to see combinations we haven't seen in years coming through PokeBank; so it should be really fun to see all these Gen I Pokes come to the forefront with their unique Gen I movesets.

It is compatible with the 2DS, they showed it at the end of the video, below the Holiday 2016

With the Gen 1 compatibility, there are a few possibilities.

1. No Guard Fissure Machamp

This would be fun. They might change No Guard to not include OHKOs, they might just not care that this exists, or they might do the next thing:

2. New Abilities for Pokemon Transferred from Gen 1

Gen III introduced abilities, Gen IV introduced new secondary abilities for some Pokemon, and Gen V introduced hidden abilities. Gen VI was different, but it still found ways to give older Pokemon new abilities: Megas and just slapping them on like in Gen IV (think Competitive).

Sun/Moon could have its own way of distributing new abilities to old Pokemon, and that way could be by transferring from Gen 1 VC games. Sure, this would only apply to 151 Pokemon, but it would be cool since otherwise I'm assuming they'd just get whatever Ability #1 is when sent over, which is BO-ring.

Ash will NEVER appear in any official game, core series or not. Ash is the Anime counterpart of Red, the protagonist of the first Generation Games. So, they cannot be both in the same game/anime/manga/whatever.

jynxed that's not too far fetched. I mean with Black and White series you had to use the dream world to get older pokemon with hidden abilities. So maybe this is a Dream World of Kalos?

The link to the Pokemon Bank on the Pokemon website states that Pokemon caught in the E-shop titles Red, Blue, and Yellow CAN NOT be transferred to X,Y, Omega Ruby, and Alpha Sapphire. So only to Sun and Moon.

I love the designs shown - the vehicles (pokéball ambulance, etc.), the Slaking Motel (it seems to be?), and the large building does seem reminiscent of southern France as others have pointed out...but, who knows. The general vibe seems like a laid-back, fresh-air kind of environment to me, based on the few images. I look forward to learning more!

Welp, the hype is real. Hopefully we won't have to wait a month for them to clarify what exactly are these games. My bet is the Johto/Kanto relation, a new set of games from the new generation that is connected to the previous generation. Am I the only one who thinks that large building might be a water type gym? This is probably a huge reach but it might be something similar to Nacrene gym from BW.
