PokéBeach Create-A-Card: Jan. 2015 - Member's Pokemon (Congrats to the Winners!)

RE: PokéBeach Create-A-Card: Jan. 2015 - Member's Pokemon

I actually forgot about this.

Yesterday I suddenly remembered that I hadn't submitted anything for this yet, and right as I went to the forums to send a message to Athena, I had a PM from her with arts in it :>

So here's our entry.

4g55eNw.png

Art by Athena, spoiler by the man himself, dex entry from the PMJ-Dex. "but pmj where is the owner's icon?" It's there, you just can't see it. Ninja skills and all that. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

RE: PokéBeach Create-A-Card: Jan. 2015 - Member's Pokemon

Unfortunately, due to a project being due Thursday, I will probably not be able to finish my submission by the end of tomorrow. I think if I had the weekend (30th and 31st), I could finish, but I don't expect the whole contest to be held up just for me.

In any case, I can post the actual text of the card, but I will not have an image submission. Sorry!

Yes, but it wasn't always. And besides, I already made him a Regigigas card a long time ago.

RE: PokéBeach Create-A-Card: Jan. 2015 - Member's Pokemon

Running low on time it seems - I'll put this up as it is then.
Camoullon_zps8h8t7str.png

I may edit this if I manage to find a better way to upload my pencil coloured illustration to the computer - even the point deduction is worth it because the Iphone camera butchered the picture significantly. I tried editing in photoshop to get it to look better, and while that was accomplished, it's still a pretty shoddy picture. I have spent quite some time colouring that picture, so that's kind of depressing. Oh well.

I also had to make do with an edit of Sugimori's FR/LG Red to represent Amperglyph rather than make a trainer by scratch - perhaps I'll change that if I manage to make the trainer by the time I get a better picture of the illus.

Onto the card then:

This card is inspired by the Pokémon Reshuffled project (the bold italic R in the dex entry refers to this) and one of Amperglyph's favourite Pokémon (at least, I think it is :s ). I made up the HT and WT however, I couldn't find those stats in the thread (and I don't think Camoullon's page is made on the Reshuffle wiki).

So this is my spin on the Owner's Pokémon - they can evolve from regular or Owner's Pokémon and in terms of card limit in a deck, they are treated as the same as the regular Pokémon. They however can be distinguished from regular cards in text by being referred to as "Pokémon owned by X" etc. Hopefully the card itself shows most of that anyway.

The Ability is basically Castform's TCG ability - with a little bonus. The attack is supposed to be a vague reference to Lucifer (the morning star) which also loosely references Vivillon, the real counterpart to this Pokémon, having a dex number of 666 (the supposed number of the beast which is commonly associated with the biblical devil - along with the name Lucifer). Effect-wise it is more of a counter to the few heavy hitters that use alot of Energy to use their attacks. I tried power scaling upwards compared to my original idea to fit the current era of the TCG - perhaps it was a bit much? I'll see what the Judge says.

I also added an Owner's rule. The idea here is that the effects of a particular owner are always the same or follow the same sort of idea. So Amperglyph's Pokémon would all at least have some shuffling effect upon draw.

Hope I didn't make too many silly errors.
I believe the background texture belongs to Nekoban Ryo, so credit to him! (Correct me if I'm wrong please)

Best of luck to everyone!

Very aesthetic Huderon! Just remember you now may not edit this (^) post under any circumstances, otherwise you be penalised as it counts as an edit.

I might still edit it for the illus quality regardless if it incurs a penalty :p
But realistically, I probably wouldn't have the time anyway, hence why I posted now.
Also, just noticed the 'Sun Forme' isn't on the card. Not sure why that is, I might have accidently deleted the layer in Illustrator before rasterising. Bother.

RE: PokéBeach Create-A-Card: Jan. 2015 - Member's Pokemon

Guess who this goes out to? Referencing Machamp and Garchomp as "allies" refer to two specific Pokebeach members: Machamp the Champion and RogueChomp, respectively. No room for a Sailor Moon reference this time... oh well. :D

[F][C][C][C] Champion’s Victory 40x
Does 40 damage times the number of Prize Cards you have taken.

Many myths tell of a legendary trainer and their invincible Machamp. No trainer or Pokémon dared, nor could, stand up against them.

This card obviously circulates around the champion aspect of Machamp the Champion. Not only is the word “champion” in the name, Machamp the Champion seems does extremely well in Create a Card competitions, recently claiming first place with a with a very well-designed Chandelure!

Little over two hours remaining. Get those cards in!! =)

RE: PokéBeach Create-A-Card: Jan. 2015 - Member's Pokemon

As I said already, I do not have my image-based entry, but here's what the card would have been:

BigfootAUS's Porygon2 HP 80 [C]
porygon2.gif

Ability: 3D Modeling
Once during your turn (before your attack) you may discard up to 2 Special Energy cards attached to this Pokémon. If you discarded 1, search your deck for a Basic or Stage 1 Pokémon and put it onto your Bench. If you discarded 2, search your deck for a Stage 2 Pokémon and put it onto your bench.

[C] Painting Filter
Discard a basic Energy card attached to this Pokémon. If you do, attach a Special Energy card from your discard pile to this Pokémon.

Mocking my favorite digital artist here on PokéBeach, I decided to focus this card on my favorite digital Pokemon: Porygon2.

The ability, of course, represents the consistent use or 3D models in his art. Mechanically, I thought this was a neat idea. It allows the player a rare ability to put non-basic Pokemon directly into play, but at a great cost: Porygon2 itself IS a Stage 1, and you must both attach and discard Special Energy each time you use it. In the current format, at least, there are virtually no effective means of attaching multiple Special Energy each turn, you are basically sacrificing your hand-attachment each time. And if you want to get a Stage 2, you need to sacrifice TWO turns of hand-attachment! Big cost to a big reward.

The attack references a more recent trend in his fakes: the somewhat excessive use of painting filters to spice up each render. This manifests itself as a secondary strategy to the ability. Instead of being forced to attach Special Energy from the hand, you can accelerate Basic Energy onto Porygon2 however you wish, and then exchange that for a Special you've already gotten rid of. This self-acceleration balances itself out by requiring the user to sacrifice their attack for the turn, as well as put up an 80 HP Stage 1, which must survive the opponent's turn to see any use.

3D Modeling is mostly original (couldn't find anything quite like it...) but the searching part is based off of Dedenne FUF's Entrainment attack. Painting Filter is based off a combination of Plusle FUF and Bronzong PHF

Overall, while I'm happy with the concept, I'm disappointed I couldn't get together a card to submit. I had a pretty good idea for art, but that will likely never come to fruition, at least not for the couple of months I have until enough time is available. That's the nature of things, I suppose.

To the Judges: You don't have to grade this. Treat this like I am dropping out late (I'll take the penalty). If you DO want to assign this a point value (counted or not), I suppose it ought to be graded as a text-based submission, since that's all it really is. Thanks!

RE: PokéBeach Create-A-Card: Jan. 2015 - Member's Pokemon

I'll admit, I really wasn't expecting to be honoured with a card! I don't think I've posted once in the last two months, so it was a pretty exciting surprise to see it.

Not sure if entering an hour before the due date is a thing, but I had an idea on the shelf that I wanted to try out, so I dusted it off for what has to be my laziest CAC entry to date:

Voms%20Gengar_zpsjwpptyky.jpg

I love the theme of this month's competition, but I really don't like Owner's Pokémon as a mechanic; they limit evolution options and they really don't age well. So, while this card doesn't do that, I did make it to directly honor the themes and ideas of another member on here. So, while it may not be in the mechanic text, his name is on it, as is his concept of Ghost-type Pokémon cards. Card text is meant to be Primal Clash-era, since half-art cards haven't really happened in other eras.

RE: PokéBeach Create-A-Card: Jan. 2015 - Member's Pokemon

Those references :D

I think I'm now g'lade I didn't do Luispipe's Gallade.

Really awesome to see the real card one day, Auride!!

And very sneaky...
