(1) Pokemon Announces 2013-14 Season Changes: Entry Fees, More Prize Support, and More! [8/22]

Possible, except when you go X-0 the first day and lose the first round on Day 2, you have a chance to regroup instead of watching the rest of the tournament from the sidelines. Not a waste at all, rather the second chance anyone who has gone X-0 and lost in round 1 of top cut always wanted.

Imagine Day 2 as being the real top cut..except instead of single elimination right away, it takes the top 8 records and goes to single elimination from there. As long as the tournament is large enough, which any states/regionals SHOULD be, there will be prizes/points for more than the top 8 just like before.

I liked the old system better for swiss too, but this is by no means horrible...

As someone new to the TCG as a whole, i do wonder if this is something that they want to test out or if this is something serious to make the TCG more competitive. creating fees will take a bit of fun out of the game for a lot of people.

I dont like paying as a master because we already have to pay gas just to get there. I do like best of 3 because people actually get to play pokemon instead of 1 round. I would like to see them incorporate sidedecking so against different matchups you can counter. The whole no points for battle roads or league challenge makes it hardfor masters because now you are forced to spend gas to regionals and cities then entry fee.

What annoys me about this is that, according to this, there could be an entry fee for League Challenges and no prize increase. Also, living in California, that Top 8 limit sucks, even with what DNA explained. This basically forbids anyone from playing in both TCG and VGC. If it is 25%, this means things like Regs or States could take most of 2 days, and with an entry fee added in as well which would likely be relatively sizable for an event that large, this makes mid-tier tournaments a way bigger commitment.

This is going to be my first season since 2002 that I will be playing in. I just got back into the game late May, but didn't get into it seriously until a month ago. I think the pay to play is a smart idea to bust the prize support and make it so a lot of players will go home with some pretty cool prizes. I figure a $5 or $10 fee for a bigger tournament won't break the bank. Than again, being older now and having a good 6 years of going to the casinos to play Texas Hold'em and have hundreds of dollars on the line has killed my value of a good 5 or 10 dollars. >.< lol

So how deep down the line will these prizes go and what exactly will they be? Just like more packs? Also with them taking out Player Rewards think we will get league promos back? *crosses fingers for league promo staples again*

Whether a league chooses to support the Video Game is its own choice. League Owners can choose to support just one or the other if they wish. I thought the free Pokemon you earned for participating in a season was a good reward. It may not have perfect stats, but its better than nothing.

Oh I meant more in-house stuff supplied from the Pokemon Company. Like how they used to have DS Skins, or possibly give out more event Pokemon at the league. Usually professors have a DS System, if not, a downgraded one with the basic function of distributing Pokemon would be neat.

There's always soft resetting for natures/IVs like I did with my Dragonite and Garchomp. However not many kids knew how to work dream world nor understand the concept much.

3DS Accessories like a specially designed stylus or phone charms would be neat (We missed a whole boatload of those, thanks for nothing in the gachapon aspect - Tomy. )

Budget is the big problem. From what I've been told the badge cases and then the badges themselves had quite a cost compared to what has been done in the past.

I'm personally not in masters, but I think this change was implemented so masters would get more prize support, Imagine U.S Nats having 3 times better prizes for just paying $5.

Many masters at my league stopped playing because even if they did make cut, they could lose round one of cut and get like 4 booster packs.

Does anyone know if you have to be part of a league to play in League Challenge tournaments? I haven't been to a league in ages.

I don't think you have to. As far as am I aware these are not closed entry tournaments, they are open. You just need to show up on the day the tournament is.

I'm a little confused about this,
Do the changes mean that there will be no battle roads at all (Including the one coming soon) or just the spring battle roads?

There will be no Battle Roads at all. It is all League Challenges instead.

Imagine how I feel, having to walk around the judge floor for 2 days. I'll grant that it definitely was and is a fun experience of my life, but my feet hated me for the next week. I envy you players. You actually get to sit down regularly, when playing your matches.

You know where we hold States, Puff. You know how irritating it can be. :p

Now that I read it, it's still pretty sad. Consider you get X-0 on Day 1, and being the luck-based format this is, you flop the next day. Pretty waste of effort going X-0. I am in the agreement that the old system was way better for swiss. I have no qualms about entry fee as long as it's tolerable.
I don't really see how this is different from the X-0 losing the first round of top cut. Except that in this new system, if the X-0's (it's actually likely that there will be more than one at the end of the first day if my math is right) lose the first round of day 2, they get to keep playing and stay in the tournament.

I am hoping we get something like those badge cases again, I really loved them~

Exactly Celebi23! I have seen too many X-0's play great swiss, only to lose in the 1st round of cut. Cities, States, Regionals, doesn't matter. This gives you the chance to regroup and get back into it.

So, for League Challenges, we could have these like every six weeks then, right? If so, I like the ability to test new decks in a lower tournament like this before heading into Cities...States...Regionals...Nats. Better prep to test in a tournament environment before a bigger show.

A shame it might be a bit too late to get your hands on them.

We are approaching September, then after that - these badge cases will be no more.

My league actually skipped the 7th badge so I have every badge but that one

ouch, I was worried we might miss a badge but that doesn't seem to be the case. We got em last week but the professor forgot to bring em. So he's bringing them tomorrow.

We usually get supplies late and one time they were actually shipped to the wrong address.
