(APRIL FOOL’S) ‘V-Union Eternal Partners’ in September: V-Unions for Pikachu, Charizard, and Other Starters! By: Water Pokémon Master Posted 2 weeks ago to TCG 38 comments Update (April 2nd): This post was an April Fool’s prank, see the last paragraph. Thanks to many of you for being good sports and playing along in the comments! Japan’s September set will be named S8a V-Union Eternal Partners (永遠お仲間) and will release on September 10th! It will be another “High Class Pack” set and contain a whopping 220 cards before secret rares. The final number will likely climb over 300 if it’s like Shiny Star V. The set will star every fully evolved Starter Pokemon — plus Pikachu — for a total of 25 featured Pokemon. (Eevee wasn’t forgotten, it’s getting its own set in May). Venusaur, Charizard, Blastoise, Pikachu, Rillaboom, Cinderace, and Inteleon will appear as V-Union cards. There will be 36 Pokemon V and VMAX cards, some of which will be reprints with new artwork. These are presumably the remaining 18 Starter Pokemon. The product description states the V-Union cards for Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise will feature attacks and Abilities reminiscient of their “original appearances,” but with “a powerful twist.” This is likely referencing their original cards from Base Set. The description’s second point gives us our first hint at how V-Union cards will work. It states the set will include eight V-Union Supporter cards of famous Pokemon Trainers. These V-Union Supporters will work with V-Union Pokemon to “utilize their full power.” And lastly, the product description states the set will feature more special art cards themed after “the eternal bond between Pokemon Trainers and their Pokemon.” So we’ll presumably see notable human characters in the artwork, like with Leon and his Charizard. Eternal Partners will also see the release of three deck box and card sleeve designs. They will feature Blue & Venusaur, Red & Charizard, and Green & Blastoise. This seems to indicate the set will at least feature the protagonist characters. For comparison, Shiny Star V featured 190 cards before secret rares, 330 cards after secret rares, and a total of 52 Pokemon V and VMAX. Like that set, booster packs for Eternal Partners will come with 10 cards, including a guaranteed chase card (a Pokemon V, VMAX, or V-Union). We’ve known for a while we’re getting a 25th anniversary set in the fall. This set could be where our cards are coming from. There is still no word about the trademarks for VSTAR and Fusion Arts. Perhaps they will debut in a later set? Thanks goes to Bangiras for the translations! For those of you who dutifully read my entire posts, this story is fake, but please keep it quiet in the comments and trick your friends who don’t read articles all the way through!
Dang it, I was just about to pre-order! Jokes aside. I havent been able to buy cards for the past two sets because; 1. they are sold out the hour after release in stores and online 2. Some stores where I live has been closed since covid and there is no way to buy the cards 3. Importing cards is a no-go when I have to pay double, in some cases triple the price to get it into the country. I think for my sake I will skip all this until things become stable again.
So V-Union has nothing to do with Calyrex and is instead the Cosmic Eclipse Tag Team thing taken to its obvious conclusion. Attacks that only work or get additional effects if you played the supporter the same turn, and supporters which probably have an added effect if you control a V-Union. Maybe some ability here and there too. It's not as bad powercreep wise, but it's also not as interesting.
Yippee another scalper's paradise set... Pokemon needs to stop with these 'high class' sets. The only class these recent sets have is outclassing it's budget collector and budget player base...
Just make sure you pre-order in time and get more then you want because they probably won't be able to fullfil all
The good news is that this new effect isn’t gonna be a vanilla Tag Team or LEGEND effect. The BAD news is that this is most likely our Fall Special set, which means no XY Evolutions type sets. I won’t comment on the pre-orders, since TPCI will most certainly make additional waves.
You know, I don't understand it. Another set with Charizard. UGHHHHHH. It's a cool Pokemon, but give him a darn break, and give the other starters more love. Charizard has had enough spotlight. Also, what's the deal with "scalping"? Can someone give me some sort of explanation?
EXACTLY. Charizard needs to step off the spotlight, and give love to literally every other starter Pokemon.
Is that... Ch-Charizard... from... KANTOOOOO? It's been a whole 3 minutes since Charizard has had a card oh gosh oh gosh oh gosh this is so exciting that my soy gullet others call jaws gained the ability to dislocate another 3 millimeters
Um, Charizard is one of 25 starter Pokémon being included in the set. They are ALL SHARING THE SPOTLIGHT. Charizard is only the spotlight Pokémon if you make it, so if you truly don’t want Charizard to be the spotlight Pokémon, perhaps you should start acting joyful at the thought of your favorite starter Pokémon finally getting a really cool V/VMAX/V-Union. For instance: “Can you believe it? Torterra is getting its first card since Forbidden Light and its first Ultra Rare since the Diamond and Pearl Base Set! Not just one, either. Two of them! Can you believe it?” Besides, it would have been strange for Charizard to be the only fully evolved starter without representation. P.S. Torterra LV.X also appeared as a tin Promo, but that appearance was licking the heels of the original LV.X.
Huh...that's interesting. The thing with the Pokémon that had extra stuff happen if you used given supporters was already an interesting concept, I guess they could come up with some very original stuff if they manage to properly expand the idea. And it baffles me how people were still actually believing this would be just Tag Teams but with the letter V instead of GX.
Chestnaught and Primarina fans should be ESPECIALLY happy. Those Pokémon barely appeared at all in their own generation and haven’t been seen since.
Based on that description, it seems it'll be a Charizard that says "if you play Red V-Union, you can do this:" and the supporter Red would say "If you have Charizard V-Union out, you can do this:". If so, I really like that concept!
