RE: Nekoban Ryo's Art Showcase

@aggiegwyn: Thanks. ^^

@HeroOfSinnoh: You say that like you have no idea what it is - is this true? If so, it's supposed to be a Millennium Item from the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime and manga, more specifically, the Millennium Ring, and item worn by the character I was cosplaying as, Yami Bakura. Thanks, though. :)

UPDATE: New Unown X added to the Digital Art section.

RE: Nekoban Ryo's Art Showcase: Updated 10/12

I beg to differ. Originally, I liked it, but now that I look back on it, I think it's horrible. Therefore, I tried making another Unown.

EDIT: And another...

Well, when it comes to art, everybody looks at it differently.

I like the second one better. I think it turns out better if they are clear.

Nice! I know I have commented on Acanthite but who cares?
(That manga style is still missing the eye :p, she's hawt, I wanna see the eyes :p)

RE: Nekoban Ryo's Art Showcase: Updated 12/30

@HOS: Haha, thanks. I still can't seem to add another eye and manage to make it look right... ><

UPDATE: It's been a while, but I FINALLY have another update...

home_by_karite_kita_neko-d355yna.jpg

A drawing I did of home towards the beginning of this year. Realism and landscapes totally aren't my thing, but it was required for an assignment, so I had to give it a go. I'm actually pretty pleased with the result, considering I don't really do this kind of stuff.

black_teardrop_by_karite_kita_neko-d34k6g4.png

An abstract piece I did a little while back. While it originally wasn't meant to be anything in particular, just a pretty design, I later discoved the shape of a teardrop, so I titled this piece "black tearDROP". Taking a more symbolic approach, you could say this picture represents hope in lonliness, seeing as below this teardrop seems to be a winged heart.

elf_ears_final__by_karite_kita_neko-d34wqgp.png

Decided to make some elf ears, thus inspiring me to do another cosplay. These were made with cardboard, pipe cleaners (or fuzzy sticks), paper mache, and paint.

aahhh___it__s_a_snake__a__by_karite_kita_neko-d360t3p.jpg

Ahhh! It's a snake!!! Huh? You say it's a tail? So it is! I could have sworn it was a snake. Hahaha! Anyway, this was made with white felt and fuzzy sticks. I know it would have looked more realistic if I had used fur, but I couldn't find any while I was out yesterday and it probably would have been too expensive anyway.

Now to grow my hair out another 3 inches and buy some hair dye...

Realism and landscapes totally aren't my thing

It's usually the final frontier for any artist.

Ironically they throw that stuff straight at you in school first thing in art class. *recalls drawing fruits*

You know, including high school and college, I've had about 10 art classes. So far I've not had to draw or paint fruit for any of them. Closest thing was when I had to draw a still-life that involved an ostrich egg...

UPDATE: Mizavie added to the Hand-Digital section under the Fakemon category.

Mizavie (Japanese: ネズヒコ Nezuhiko) is a Flying/Ground-type legendary Fakemon introduced in Pokemon HeavenEarth Version. It can only be obtained through a special promotional event. It is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon.
--TRIVIA---

Mizavie was not planned to be officially revealed until after the game's release. However, the creator accidently revealed it while launching the beta HeavenEarth Version website.

Mizavie was shown in a fake Pokemon Black & White Version screencap in effort to fool people into believing it was a new Pokemon. Though this screencap shows Mizavie to be a female, Mizavie is actually genderless.

--ORIGIN--

Mizavie is loosely based on the Long-eared Flying Mouse (Idiurus macrotis), but plays more on the name. It also resembles the already-existing Pokemon, Pikachu.

Mizavie's Japanese name, Nezuhiko, comes from the Japanese word for mouse (nezumi) and flying (hiko). Its English name is a corruption of the Croatian word for mouse, miševi.

Ive had only about 2 years of art lessons in school in 2001 and 2002, after which I decided having art as an academic subject was too much for me and ditched it

Yeah I had tons of fruit... enough to make me swear off fruits for weeks >_<

Funnily enough they never taught me stuff like drawing people... I guess it's hard (and now that I've tried it, I can verify how hard it is, and we're not even taking realism)

That fakemon has an eevee-like vibe to me. Maybe its the colour

I remember back when I was at the university and was overwhelmed by art projects. I had to quit club activities and everything so I had time for them. I'm so glad I moved back home...

The first time I was required to do a realistic drawing of a person was during my senior year of high school and I failed horribly (though I think I still got a good grade on the drawing). However, since high school, only this previous semester did I get to draw more, albeit only 1. I plan on taking another drawing class semester after next, one that focuses more on drawing people.

So I've been told. I've even gotten comments that it looks like a failed flying-type Eevee evolution. =|
Actually, if the face and body were tweaked, I can imagine this would make a nice Flying Eeveelution...

RE: Nekoban Ryo's Art Showcase: Updated 01/03/11

Yeah the face (or the ears) definitely needs tweaking. Perspective of the face to the ears is horribly off. That is why guide-lines come in handy. Sometimes even those lines are hard (totally get that issue all the time when drawing fingers)

Yeah, I get what you're saying. I've noticed this as well. It was over a year ago that I drew the line art, so my best guess is that I wasn't taking a serious approach (seeing as this is just the concept art). However, things like this are pretty common in some cartoon works (methinks), albeit less serious ones. Anyway, hopefully I can find a Sugimori-style artist to get ahold of this Fakemon and make some nice art for it. =]

Fingers... Ugh...

RE: Nekoban Ryo's Art Showcase: Updated 01/03/11

I think you'd have an easier time learning the style than getting someone to do it for you, as the style isn't very popular from what I can tell. In total I only know 2 people on deviantart who specialise in sugimori style, and neither of them do requests. On the plus side, it's a lot easier than most anime-standard art, because his level of detail on stuff like hair is much less than typical.

The shading requires some getting used to though. I used to brute-force it using opaque brushes, now I just use a semi-transparent one.

I've tried! I can't do it! ;____;

Best luck I had was with Xous' tutorial, but that just resulted in my failed Weavile (see gallery) v___v'

RE: Nekoban Ryo's Art Showcase: Updated 01/03/11

Yeah the thing about that... I'm not convinced it's something anyone (even xous) can formalise entirely into a tutorial because shading sugimori-style requires a certain type of brush pressure control (easy to screw up if you stroke too much). There's also stuff in his tutorial I don't really agree with, especially the use of soft brushes in the CG stage, but that is just a style difference and lots of tutorials advocate a soft brush too. Really the end result is all that matters, regardless of how it is done.

About the weavile, I think first it must be bigger-looking. The abundance of white in the highlights gives it a more Gen I/II sugimori-style appearance indeed.

^ try that for reference. It dos cover some parts Xous doesn't mention, like smudging of highlights.

0.o These are pretty good... Wish I could draw like this.:)
