i was wondering how other kids like me can afford the game. I have a job if u can call it that as a soccer reff. It pays well for a kid my age but i still run into the problem of affording the game. i was wondering if anybody can give me so tips.

I have no problem with money, and I hardly earn any. Just buy packs, and hope for lucky pulls, that's how we poor kids do it :p

Packs are much better, even if you don't get good pulls save the bulk, and sell it. Singles can be hard and annoying to get :/

(Small hint:)

Take ALL the packs you even thought of buying at walmart, and weigh them in the produce scales... (That's how I pulled Mewtwo EX)

You'll notice the slightest differences, and that's the rare cards

Moved to TCG News/Discussion. You should change the name to something like "Methods to cheaply buy cards" or something similar to reflect the question.

Hand weighing is the way to go.

You occasionally start to detect minor differences when hand weighing.
That is how I pulled MY mewtwo EX

Hand weighing got me a crappy Persian... I like getting wierd looks :p

Even then, you ALWAYS get mint cards when you buy packs. Not always with singles :)

^Cheater... Totally cheating... TOTALLY CHEATING...

Actually that's really smart... I honestly just throw them at my friends, and the one that hurts more has better cards (Pulled Tornadus EX out of one that left a bruise :p)

Nah. I've opened packs and received off-center and scratched cards occasionally.

It stinks when it happens to a rare pull. :(

Save.

'Nuff said.

Don't buy packs OR singles and save for a Booster Box. You can sell almost 80% of a box somehow if you really try; basically dropping it to $50ish for a whole box if bought at $90ish.

I pulled a pack that was all off-center yesterday when I tried to do hand-waying. it had an extra Joltik stuck in there that was off center. I ended up with an 11 card pack :O

I think that's luck :p

Honestly, It's really just easier to save $5 every week, and buy a pack. So by the time the new set comes out, you have some or most of the old set, and you can move on :)

At first glance booster boxes look like an amazing deal... Till you look at pull rates. You might pull 1 or 2 Ultra Rares per box of 36 packs. At Walmart me and my friends bought 36 random packs from the same set, and we got 5 or 6 Ultra Rares. It's not worth the rates to do that.

Im not gonna lie I weigh packs too...thats the only reason I have new exs or FAs :p Otherwise I would end up havin a bunch stupid reverse holo sewaddles! :O I have a special scale that is specially designed for scaling small diamonds and other small precious gem pieces it hasnt failed me!!! I dont care if ppl come in and do it at my work at 3 am, I do it too so hey! I know when the vendor comes in and re-fills the shelves thats when I go for the packs because they arnt picked-through. Once I got a full-time job I started buying cards online and bought packs often otherwise I bought maybe 2 packs a month. A lot of ppl at my league and my area altogether I see parents giving them their credit cards or money to buy like 10 packs or a few tins, w.e. even a few ppl my age which is the sad part! :O Feel like parents nowadays where I live are over-spoiling their children sometimes to where they dont learn responsibility. Theres a kid at my work who is in his mid twenties, older than me. and buys a lot of MtG and Pokemon Cards-he openly told me he lives with his parents and he drives their car! He pays for almost nothing! SAD. I was out on my own in my mid-teens so I have developed the skills to make responsible decisions when it comes to my bills and play money. Buying single cards I want online helps me save big time. Ebay=<3

eBay. You can snag awesome deals on cards and NOT have to risk buying packs. I used to think the same way but I was throwing money away. Ask your parents to buy for you and you can pay 'em back.

Martini: you must have gotten some amazing luck...haha no one gets an EX out of six packs!

I have a job, but I can't just buy cards. Im 17, so I got college to save up for, phone bills, gas, insurance, and all that jazz. But I think a booster pack here and there doesn't hurt. I bought 4 packs of DeX and the first one had a Torn EX. I was very happy. But if I'm on a tight budget, like most of the time, singles help. :)

Singles will ALWAYS be cheaper than packs, no matter if you weigh the packs or not. Singles are the cheapest way to get a competitive deck. Weighing packs also means you open holos. Unless there are a lot of good holos in set, or there is a super expensive EX (There aren't any super expensive EXs any more) and you pull it, you're going to break even or even lose money.

Since everybody is weighing packs here. Does anybody know how much a regular pack weighs as compared to a pack with an EX?
