Pokemon Embarrased to play pokemon?

I actually got my girlfriend into Pokemon. Her mom had banned her from it in her younger years, so she really missed out. T.T

Yeah kaishu I was forbidden to like pokemon too cause of church saying it was evil all that jank back in the late 90s I still played it though but in secret then when I turned 14 my parents didn't care anymore so I didn't miss out on anything now all my friends (which is a ton of them) know I like it no one bothers me about it at all hell I even have some of my poke-art displayed on my binder

A Rant About my Parents and Pokemon

My parents are trying to force pokemon out of me, it sucks. I haven't bought a pack in over six months, and I can't buy cards without my parents interrogating me like I'm some terrorist. I have a feeling my parents are purposefully keeping me away from leagues ("I have work" or "There's no one to pick you up"), and they think that I'll just throw all my cards away when I'm 16ish (which will never happen).

They also think it's a waste of money. Wrong. I take Tae Kwon Do and swimming lessons at the YMCA, and my parents are spending as much, if not more, money on equipment and memberships than they would on pokemon cards. It couldn't be a waste of time, if I'm learning strategy and sportsmanship. I've even made friends through pokemon. How in the world could it be a waste of time, money, and my lifetime on earth when pokemon is one of the best experiences of my life? How could pokemon turn me into a mindless zombie and a complete idiot when at the same time, it's teaching me things about strategy, friendship, and sportsmanship? How could pokemon make me a lifeless, self-centered, I-don't-give-a-crud-about-the-world kind of person when I'm making more friends than I ever would without it? And most of all, how could this simple hobby, a pastime, be something that my parents would be afraid of?

And so, my message to you is:

Yes, I know this is a rant, but I was really fed up with this, so I decided to let it all out on this post.

haha I'm glad to actually see this post =] I'm 19 freakin years old o_o I quit after my parents took my cards away as a kid... because I would sell the cards I wasn't using at school XD

But after I graduated one of my friends got a whole nother group from our school to start a huge (like 12+ people) so I picked it up =D Now I'm the most serious of us all and am the biggest contender they try to beat and what not
But I love walkin in to Target or Loki's (local card shop) and watchin all the 10 year olds stare at me like "omg that guy plays cards too?! =O "
Unfortunately my girlfriend refuses to get into it, but you'll find most people don't care that much as it was an old school thing =]

Agroup of year nines (Im year eight) in my tutor group (its like a class of all mixed years that we have everyday to socialise and do homework) are always up the black playing pokemon gold and firered etc on their phones, its awesome. My parents think its great that I do pokemon stuff instead of taking drugs and smashing up buildings.

Yeah, the whole religious thing almost got my mom to ban me from it back then. She was like "They evolve and evolution is stupid and we didn't come from monkeys blah blah" but at the time I was like "mother, this is a fictional world where this takes place" so she finally gave up. Yeah... and people wonder why I hold such a grudge against religious people... XD

I get a ride from my Grandpa. See if you can get friends from league or sumthin to give you a ride.
My parents are negative, but they still let me play.

Hmm... okay no I'm not going to reply on the religious part :p

Anyway today at my school, it was during English class I think, I heard two guys talking (no they're not like ''nerds'') about Pokemon Stadium. I was really shocked... Nobody noticed them talking about but I was just shocked I heard the word ''Pokemon'' in rl. Haven't heard that for a couple of years I think...

hey well im in year 11 now and i still play the games and have the cards. For me ive collected the cards for years so im not going to stop, its a game. I mean people play with other types of cards so its no big deal. The bad thing is i havent told anyone that i still get the cards, my parents know and they are ok with it. My only problem is that i have no one to play against with my cards. :(
The actuall games like diamond and pearl are like the best games out for the ds aswell :) But no one bothers about you playing the games because i mean.... who doesnt ??
I know the cards werent meant to be in the thread but ya know it nice to know that other people ( are the same ) basically.
:)

I tend to get embarrassed occasionally. Although hardly nobody knows that I play the series it does make me think if I should stop playing now, of course I won't. Sometimes I feel how adults feel like playing the game, for me it will most likely die out when I reach my late teenager - young adult ages and move on to other things.

Lol, I'm a closet pokemon player. I tried to hide it my whole life but it's hard to when the gameboy cartidges are colored to stick out!

How come pokemon are the only games with colored cartridges besides Zelda anyways?

Lol, they aren't "the only ones" but most of the time, they are.

Some people know I play... I purposely keep it hidden but if someone finds out, I just hope they will accept me for it. I noticed that if you use Pokemon as a "remembering what I did years ago", people don't tend to think anything of it. But being honest with yourself is probably the better choice. :]

I'm not ashamed at all. I wear clothes with pikachu on it to school, of course people make fun of me, heck, my mom makes fun of me!

BUT I DON'T CARE.
My friends accept me for who I am. If other people don't like it, WELL they can't change me.

I love pokemon. <3

Well, judging the fact tthat my state is one of the FATTEST states in the US, it is also the nerdiest. So, I can basically yell out I love pokemon, and eveyone will think Im popular compared to what some other people like....>_>

I see another major point.

Yes, you DO make lots of friends through Pokemon.

Pokemon and Megaman are how I've met most of my friends.

No one knows that i play. Other than other players and family. I could yell otu I play pokemon, be myself blablabla but High School isn't the time for that. Once I'm in college I'll probably tell some people. People are generally more accepting in college.

I like pokemon a lot now but now my friends don't like pokemon anymore :(

And I don't know anyone else in my school who plays pokemon.

But I still like pokemon and I trade pokemon from diamond using my bros ds.
I am trying to encourage my friends to play again.

(oh and just to tell you, me and my friends are in sixth grade)

Edit: But yeah sometimes I am embarrased to play pokemon.

I miss my old class who didn't care if I played Pokemon and said things like "Good Job." if I did well at a tourny. My 6th grade class, a lot of people stare at me like I'm a freak when I talk about Pokemon...=(
