“Twilight Masquerade” Pokemon TCG Set Officially Revealed for May!

Twilight Masquerade has officially been revealed as our sixth Scarlet & Violet set!

It will largely feature Pokemon introduced in The Teal Mask, such as Ogerpon, Bloodmoon Ursaluna, and Sinistcha. The set name alludes to the first two Pokemon.

We first posted about Twilight Masquerade last month. It will release in stores on May 24th. Prereleases will take place from May 11th to 19th.

Twilight Masquerade will see the debut of Ogerpon, who will be wearing all of her masks as Tera Pokemon ex:

Our English set will also see the debut of Okidogi, Munkidori, and Fezandipiti. The Japanese set Night Wanderer will feature them as Pokemon ex; it releases in June.

Twilight Masquerade will include:

  • 167 cards (before secret rares)
  • Six ACE SPEC Trainer and Special Energy cards
  • Seven Pokémon ex. This includes Bloodmoon Ursaluna, Scream Tail, Iron Thorns, Sinistcha, and three other unrevealed cards.
  • Seven Tera Pokémon ex. This includes Magcargo (Fire), Greninja (Fighting), Dragapult (Dragon), and the four Ogerpon ex.
  • 21 illustration rare Pokémon
  • 11 special illustration rare Pokémon and Supporter cards
  • Six hyper rare gold etched cards
  • More than 30 Trainer cards

The set description reads as follows:

Welcome to the land of Kitakami, where people and Pokémon live harmoniously with nature. Folktales abound, but not all is as it seems… Uncover the mystery of the masked Legendary Pokémon Ogerpon, appearing as four fearsome types of Tera Pokémon ex, and team up with more newly discovered Pokémon, like Bloodmoon Ursaluna ex and Sinistcha ex. Growing in power, Greninja, Dragapult, and Magcargo dazzle as Tera Pokémon ex, and more ACE SPEC cards round out the festivities in the Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet—Twilight Masquerade expansion!

Our Twilight Masquerade set will be based on March’s Crimson Haze (66 cards) and April’s Mask of Change (101 cards). The latter was revealed in Japan just moments after Twilight Masquerade dropped — a rare simultaneous reveal!

Based on our set size, the 48 unique cards from Japan’s Battle Academy won’t release in Twilight Masquerade. Thankfully this means our set won’t be clogged up with simple Pokemon ex, as was the case with Fusion Strike and Hidden Fates. TPCi will simply release the cards in our English Battle Academy in June.

So that confirms Ogrepon will be 4 different basic Tera ex Pokemon instead of the masks each being tools that change Ogrepon's type? Interested to see if there's gonna be an incentive to run 1 of each of the forms, or if builds will end up being 3 of a particular form with 1 other form to cover weakness. Like, 3 of the Water type because you can search it with Irida, and then one Fighting type to cover the Lightning weakness. Then again, they're all likely gonna need Grass energy to attack, so any of the Ogrepon forms being viable is gonna depend on how cheap their attacks are and if we get some viable energy acceleration for Grass. Because right now it ain't looking too good.

Other than that, please let my boy Sinistcha be good!!

Teal Dance might be the first example of a build-around acceleration ex-card in the H block.
Compared to it's contenders from the previous blocks it is much better balanced, being severely slower and more restrictive. It is definitely not terrible, though - the ability to turn your Energy into card draw is always a massive upside. You put three of these into play on Turn 1/2 and you suddenly get a free Hau every turn. The attack is weak and the heal is appropriate for a basic, and you also need Energy Switch to spread the energy around, but these are fair downsides.
In short, it's awesome to see cards like these show up again.

So we will have four different Ogerpon cards in the same set for each type? Oh no, I hope the main grass type won't be the weakest now.
At the very least, assuming the BARE MINIMUM that Grass Ogrepon ex is able to hit for 170 for a reasonable amount of energy, I imagine that most Ogrepon lists would include at least 1 of the Grass Ogrepon ex as an answer to Charizard ex?

Assuming that all the Tera Ogrepon still need Grass energy to attack, it would at least make sense for them to include a new Grass energy accelerator in the set. Otherwise if we gotta keep relying on Forretress ex and Gardenia's Vigor, it's over.

They have different names so why would you limit yourself to 4 total when you can have up to 4 of each.

Also you can literally look at the attacks in the images, only the grass one needs grass energy.

Wait, so they are cut from Night Wanderer to come in our set a few weeks early?? Is that what's happening?? It'd be sick if so

I had not seen the additional link that showed the actual Ogrepon cards. I wasn't aware they gave them separate names. But seeing them each need different energy types to attack, and inability to use Reverse Energy, I don't think you're gonna want to heavily mix them anyways.

That being said . . . Oof. I think the Fighting Mask could be an interesting alternative to Alolan Vulpix to wall decks like Chien-Pao and Charizard. But the rest look bad. Like, really bad. I don't even know how much good unrevealed support would even do for it. 210 HP that needs 3 energy to attack for low damage? I think this entire archetype is just dead on arrival.

It is kind of mid, you can truly OHKO Charizard with the grass type but anything else, will require more energy attached to both and hoping the grass can survive.

I can see it pair with a couple of Gardenia's, Hero's Cape to give them more HP and combined with the rest of the other types to have exits depending on the situation, as well as Earthen Vessel to get the correct energy types you need, being probably the Fire type the hardest to fulfill, at least the second attack.

Maybe there will other items or overall more cards from the set that can be used to form a mid - decent deck but at it is now, is not that that good. I can definitely see having four grass and maybe one or two of the rest types.

And now that I can think of, Iron Leaves fits here too.

The comment was before they posted the images.

I'm not looking forward to having even more big basics in the format. I was hoping they'd treat it as some sort of item or evolution system with a base Ogerpon that can change into different forms. I do like the card designs though.

Sinistcha was introduced in the Teal Mask like Ogerpon, Bloodmoon Ursaluna, and Dipplin were. It being in the pack artwork is fine.

No need to worry about it. With the exception of the Cornerstone Mask, all the other cards are kinda bad. They're unlikely going to see much serious competitive play.

At first glance, these cards don't seem competitively good...but maybe that's kinda a good thing so we don't go into too much of a big basic format? Also, they could get more support I suppose.

One thing that confuses me is that these Ogerpons are apparently intended to be played in a deck together because of Ogre's Mask, but they use completely different Energy. Will there be a rainbow Special Energy in this set or something? The description only mentions Ace Spec Special Energy specifically, so maybe it will be an Ace Spec...which will limit its usability, but keep Lugia from being too crazy. Yay?

Specifically ex's will be in Night Wanderer, Mask of Change will likely have them as single prizers.
