Special Pokemon TCG English Set Releasing in January, Likely Featuring Shiny Pokemon!

We can exclusively reveal the English TCG will be getting another special set on January 26th! This is following on the heels of September’s Scarlet & Violet – 151. We don’t know the set name yet.

The set will see the release of an Elite Trainer Box and a new type of product called a “Sticker Collection Blister.” The blister will come with three booster packs, a promo card, and a sticker. This is the first time we’ve seen a sticker included in a blister product. More products should of course release, such as promo boxes and Premium Collections.

Our set should feature cards from Japan’s upcoming Shiny Treasure set, which is expected to release at the end of this year. Only the set name has been revealed so far, but as its name implies, the set will feature shiny Pokemon. This has been the case for past “shiny” sets like November 2018’s GX Ultra Shiny and November 2020’s Shiny Star V.

Historically these annual “shiny” sets contain reprinted cards from the past year, but with new shiny artwork. For example, we could get a shiny version of Tera Charizard ex. These sets always contain a handful of brand new cards as well.

Most special English sets release in the fall, but we have seen a couple release early in the year before. This includes Shining Fates in February 2021 — which was our last shiny set — and Crown Zenith in January of this year. The latter was not a shiny set, but featured some shiny promos.

Like all special sets, individual booster packs will not be sold. You will only be able to find the packs within special products, such as promo boxes and Elite Trainer Boxes.

We will bring you more information in the next few weeks, so stay tuned!

This is a long shot but maybe Glimmering Fates or Dazzling Fates

Edit: Pokémon company international translators: “quick, what are all the synonyms of shining?!”

I was expecting this and tbh I’m not sure how I feel about it. I love my shiny sets having a master set of the ones before hand in the modern era. However with the exception of shiny 151 reprints I’m not sure there will be a lot more going for it. A bit Iike Shining Fates. It’s also just CGI repaints as opposed to cool art. Hidden Fates had 8 sets to pick from and a lot of popular Pokemon whereas this has 4.5 and not a lot to get excited about. Can see this being a spattering of popular mons and a lot of new Pokemon that we just don’t care about. We have a few 151 cards (base trio, Mew, Zapdos), Gardevoir from base and then a ton of new ones. Meh. Think they should let sets cool abit before releasing a shiny set. Like at the mid point rather than so early on. We missed out on so many shiny cards from sword shield that would have made shining fates a ton better like the eeveelutions from evolving skies, Rayquaza, Lugia from silver tempest to name a few. Sure Lugia and ho- oh have had shiny cards but not full art ones and they are going to miss out again.

I do hope however that they do the split from babies and full arts like hidden fates instead of shining fates where it was mostly baby pokemon and not take out half the full arts to put in boxes etc. we do get some special cards on these though - like the alt art gold cards in Crown Zenith and I hope they pick some good ones here. I feel shiny 151 will carry it and it hope that it’s enough. Think they need to up it a notch with shiny alt arts. That feels like a natural progression

How much can we expect a shiny alt art Charizard ex to go for? I'm guessing it's going to be ridiculous. I'd want one so bad if they do but no way I'm paying several hundred for it. I turned up my nose at the regular alt art price. Luckily my brother in law pulled one and we worked out a trade so I got one.

Depends on the pull rates and size of the shiny vault.

In general, chances of a Shiny Alt Art Charizard ex in Shiny Treasure are rather low. In the previous two Shiny sets it's "only" the regular Full Arts that have had Shiny reprints, so I don't think it's likely you'd have to worry about the price of one

Just because they haven't done it in the past doesn't mean they won't. Does it make it less likely? Maybe, but that would be a huge missed opportunity. Boxes will fly off the shelves if they reprint the alt art as a shiny. I can definitely see it happening and see it as the chase card for the set.

I think it would be much easier to just reprint the regular FA cards, as the models they use for the art are MUCH easier to recolor compared to art from alternate art which (usually) is MUCH more detailed and probably much harder to change (unless they commissioned the same artwork twice but with different colors originally). Is it a huge missed opportunity? Probably, but looking at how the "regular" Shiny Charizard cards did, I don't think there'll be any issues with getting the set sold (under the assumption that a Shiny Zard is in the set).
