Poipole, Naganadel-GX, and Beast Energy Prism Star from SM5+!

The first few cards have been revealed from SM5+ Ultra Force, which will release in Japan on January 19th!

As posted before, the set will contain 50+ reverse holo cards, which means most of the set will likely be reprints of cards from SM5 Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. Except of course for a few new cards like Poipole and Naganadel!

The set’s booster pack will feature Naganadel, as you can see in the CoroCoro magazine scan to the right. Dusk Mane Necrozma and Dawn Wings Necrozma are also pictured.

As expected, Poipole is the first Ultra Beast released as a regular Pokemon card and Naganadel is the first ever Stage 1 Ultra Beast card. This is because they are the only Ultra Beasts that are part of an evolutionary chain. All previous Ultra Beasts have been Basic Pokemon-GX. (And don’t point out the Cosmog line, they aren’t Ultra Beast cards! :p)

And now we finally get our Ultra Beast Energy!

Thanks goes to Bangiras and tunu1223 for the following translations!

Poipole – Psychic – HP70
Basic Pokemon (Ultra Beast)

[C] Spit Poison: Your opponent’s Active Pokemon is now Poisoned.

[P][C] Corpse Reviver: If this Pokemon is Knocked Out during your opponent’s next turn, your opponent does not take a Prize card.

Weakness: Psychic (x2)
Resistance: none
Retreat: 1

Naganadel-GX – Psychic – HP210
Stage 1 (Ultra Beast) – Evolves from Poipole

[C] Beast Ride: 20x damage. This attack does 20 damage for each Ultra Beast you have in play.

[P][C][C] Jet Tackle: 110 damage. This attack’s damage isn’t affected by Resistance.

[C][C][C] Stinger GX: Each player shuffles their Prize cards into their deck. Then, each player takes 3 cards from the top of their deck and puts them face down as their Prize cards. (You can’t use more than 1 GX attack in a game.)

When your Pokemon-GX is Knocked Out, your opponent takes 2 Prize cards.

Weakness: Psychic (x2)
Resistance: none
Retreat: 1

Beast Energy Prism Star – Special Energy

You can’t have more than 1 Prism Star card with the same name in your deck. If a Prism Star card would go to the discard pile, put it in the Lost Zone instead.

This card provides [C] Energy.

While this card is attached to an Ultra Beast, it provides every type of Energy but provides only 1 Energy at a time. The attacks of the Ultra Beast this card is attached to do 30 more damage to your opponent’s Active Pokemon (before applying Weakness and Resistance).

Wow, Naganadel GX looks like it can turn the tides of a match in an insane way. Your opponent has 1 prize left and you still have 6. You use Nagandel GX's attack and you suddenly tied up the game! Choice band and Beast energy are going to be a pretty great combo together.

Wow, Naganadel GX is awesome! First and second attack is eh, but I think they’ll do good enough. That GX Attack is also really sick if you’re doing bad. This will DEFINETLY see play in expanded though.

EDIT: @Water Pokémon Master, looking at the image, it seems like Naganadel-GX has 1 Retrat Cost, not 2. :)

  4. In all seriousness, in the event that your opponent has 1 prize card and you have 6 left... and does it count for colbalion's second attack? because you can force them to take 7 prize cards... Frosslass cobalion BDIF!

Now, if either of the other 2 beasts have Power Connect, my 3 month long dream of Beast Box can finally come to fruition. Especially if Blacephalon is Fire

Naganadel's GX attack is amazing, even more so in Expanded paired with Dimension Valley. A single DCE that basically lets you tie up the game if you still have 4-6 Prizes left and your opponent has 1-2. You have to be losing of course for it to be effective so it's not too OP, but it can definitely be huge when played right. Poipole can also take advantage of Dimension Valley and use it's second attack for only one energy, denying your opponent a Prize if they knock it out next turn. Even in Standard though I imagine Naganadel GX will see a good amount of play, especially if Buzzwole continues to be prevalent.

Beast Energy Prism Star is also amazing. It is a bit of a bummer that it's a Prism Star, but let's be real, if it wasn't it would make Ultra Beasts broken. Imagine being able to attach two of them and a Choice Band on Buzzwole and now Jet Punching for 120 damage to the opponent's active GX. It's still a great card even being limited to one per deck though.

Dawn wings is now good. Just being a bench sitter is good enough for naganadel to take advantage of dawn wings. Not to mention it's good to be a tech in Buzzwole and dusk mane.dek
