Hello guys,

Ive been playing my darkhydreigon deck for a while now. And still having a hard time beating terrakion with it. I also play shaymin and mewtwo but im wondering if there any basic grass other than shaymin that i could use to beat terrakion. Whats the best terrakion counter?

Thanks!!

RE: basic Grass Terrakion counter

Virizion NV can do 40 for {G}{C}, which becomes 80 every turn thereafter. Other than that, you won't find anything worthwhile that's Basic.

RE: basic Grass Terrakion counter

Actually, Virizion EP could work. It can surprise OHKO terrakion, and then retreat into something else. It even OHKOs an Eviolited Terrakion EX.

RE: basic Grass Terrakion counter

The best Terrakion counter is....

Smart playing and Shaymin. If you spam 3 Darkrai down T1, then yeah, you're going to lose. If you drop Darkrai one at a time as you need them though, and let your opponent get down to 1 prize, then you can sweep with Shaymin. As long as you get some KO's with Hydreigon, use Eviolite wisely, and use Darkrai as little as possible, you should win. It's not that bad of a matchup, probably 40-60, so if you are consistently losing to it it's probably a consistency or simply not know how to play the matchup issue.

The only other cards that could possibly help are Virizion, as mentioned above, and Giratina. I personally prefer Giratina, due to it OHKOing Terrakion and being a decent backup attacker, but remember that you can win without either of those cards.

This man speaks amazing truth. Having seen how Darkrai/Hydreigon decks are played, I can agree with his statements completely.

This really helps!! Thanks man

Any opinions in what the worst matchup would be for this deck?

I've done bad against Empoleon with Stunfisk or Terrakion. Switch, Giratina, and Shaymin haven't helped.

Honestly Hydreigon isn't a bad counter to Terrakion. But as far as grass goes, Shaymin and Virizion EPO are probably the best ones IMO

As far as worst matchups go, you're not going to get a lot worse than Garbodor variants. They shut down the entire way this deck runs, and it's very difficult to work around it.

However, Garbodor is inconsistent, and Shaymin + Tool Scrapper wrecks Terrakion. If you run 2 Tool Scrapper you'll be able to beat it.

The Empoleon matchup also sucks (although Celebi23 would beg to differ) because it's very difficult to play off of a small bench. Try to swarm the Hydreigons and Max Potions and use Shaymin to clean up at the end. You do OHKO all of their attackers, but a T2 Empoleon is hard to stop and if you drop Darkrai it's a free two prizes for them.

I agree with 593462 about Tornadus EX. If you're Eviolited, it's hard to kill you and as long as you flip heads or have a DCE handy you can 2HKO a Terrakion or Terrakion EX. I also like the idea of Virizion EP. You can just play it down, move the energy, then surprise kill.
Playing it safe with Shaymin is fine, but if you're planning on dropping down to 1 prize just to Revenge Blast to kill 1 Pokemon, you're being kind of risky.

Reshiram EX is FANTASTIC against Terrakion and a heck of a lot of other stuff too. It wipes the floor with Stage 2s' faces, and it one shots non EX Basics. Reshiram EX improves almost every any matchup you'll come across. Against mirror, it gets rid of Hydreigons and two-shots Darkrais. Versus Garchomp, it one-shots everything. Against Terrakion-based decks, it takes them out and is usually helpful against whatever it's paired with. Against Accelgor-based decks, in combonation with Sableye (70 HP breaks lock), it proceeds to KO anything in its path. It demolishes Metal types. and Empoleon is easy to beat as long as you play a smaller bench. Yes, it damages itself- a 50/50 change for 50 damage, or 30 with Eviolite. It doesn't appreciate Mewtwo EX, but nothing really does. It eats Max Potions up, but you have Sableye.
Shaymin can be replaced with either Virizion, but its killing ability isn't as universal.

...The big problem with Reshiram EX is it takes forever to power up. If it gets Catchered, that's even worse. Sure, in Hydreigon it can work, but it requires that 2 of your Blends be in play...

It's not that hard to power it up... you usually use it in late game, anyway. Drop it and destroy.
