What Gyms/Leaders/Types Would You Like to See in Sun & Moon?

Things could just get a little 'messy' if GF abandon the 'Type'. Gym leaders could definitely do with some more flexibility when it comes to their teams, though, and I don't see anything wrong with throwing a bit of a wildcard in there.

Personally, if GF really did want to go against the type-based gyms, I think they could easily do 'themed' gyms. Imagine how cool an Eeveelution themed gym would be later on in the game, with a multi-coloured interior and puzzles based around their different methods of evolution!

There's so many themes they could use, there could be a 'Beach' themed gym which would allow them to use both water and ground based Pokemon in the same building, a Sky themed gym which could see a mash up between flying and dragon types, maybe even a volcano themed gym which makes use of both rock and fire types.

In the beach themed gym, imagine your surprise, after facing off against a Sandile for the gym leader to suddenly throw a wingull in your face! Your tactics would have to completely shift mid-game

As for the Elite 4, I'd like to see all of them have 6 (or at least 5) Pokemon, Unova and Kalos only gave each of them 4 and, although they were relatively higher levels than previous games, it just felt a little too easy if you had type advantage.

It may just be my memory, but - probably thanks to exp share coming so early - I don't think I had to grind at all before challenging Kalos' Pokemon League or any of the gyms for that matter, it'd be kind of nice if the game left you in a situation where, without a little bit of extra training, you'd be left short in some of these situations.

I think, in X & Y, you got to choose which order you fought the Elite 4 in and, while this was kind of cool, I like the older feeling of a natural progression from each one. The idea that, as with the gyms, each battle gets a little harder as you go.

For the first time, I'd like a grass-based elite 4 member. If, as many people are saying, the new region is tropical based, it would be the perfect chance to bring one in! Pokemon like Ludicolo could even be thrown in there to stop you just tearing through with a fire type

I agree very much with ShinyArticuno . I would also like it very much if each gym leader ha a FULL team of six pokemon. I'm sorry but if you show up at the first gym with nothing but your Starter, you have nobody but yourself to blame.
Or at least give the first gym leader 3 pokemon and everyone after that 6.

While I'd wish for the abandonment of type-based gyms I'd at least wish that the gym leaders would have a greater variety of pokemon when it comes to secondary types, like a Grass type leader who has Ludicolo, Whimsycott, Abomasnow and Torterra or something like that.

Like many, I'd love to see a Dark leader. But I'd also like another Fairy type leader, preferably a male one.

If Gen7 turns out to be a "Johto" to Kalos, then I wouldn't be surprised to see a repeat of how Johto handled gym types.

(For anyone not aware, there were 17 types, Kanto had 8 in their gyms, and because Kanto and its gyms were still there, Johto used 8 of the other 9 types)

So now that it's 18 types, if we take the 8 from Kalos out (Bug, Rock, Fighting, Grass, Electric, Fairy, Psychic, Ice), it would leave us with 10 candidates:
-Normal
-Fire
-Water
-Ground
-Poison
-Dark
-Flying
-Ghost
-Dragon
-Steel

Lots of types that can be used to make cool gym-puzzles.

I'd like to see the Trio completed and have a Grass Elite 4, hopefully with some unique type combinations to downplay the weaknesses and provide a bit of a challenge. Especially if the Hawaii theory is true, I could see a sort of older Medicene-man/Shaman concept wqorking really well. (Though yes, it would also work for Ghost or other types)

Well, I'm going for the types least used by in leagues.

Gyms:
Normal
Ground
Rock
Flying
Poison
Fire
Dark
Steel

E4:
Grass
Bug
Fairy
Ghost

I'm going to post what I think the gym types will be so that I can point back to this after we find out and brag about how right I was, and if I'm wrong I'll just never say anything and instead pretend I was right the whole time.

Gyms (in order):
Bug
Fire
Ground
Grass
Flying
Ice
Poison
Dragon

I'm hoping for no Dark-type gym.

E4:
Rock
Ghost
Fairy
Water

The E4 Fairy person will ideally have 4 new Fairy types, a super OP Dedenne, and a cute Wigglytuff that becomes Mega Wigglytuff.

My basis for these choices is that I chose them.

I'm cool with type based gyms remaining but they could do with jazzing up. poor predictable rock getting stuck as an early gym. And why not have fun with the Pokemon that fall into the typings, a flying gym leader can use a Gyarados for example. There are themes that can be done within types, again rock could be based on coral reefs with Binacle/Barbaracle, Lileep/Cradily and Corsola all fitting under one banner. I don't think the formula is tired out it's just been done in the same way a few times.

Um...Ghost has been a part of 3 out of 6 Elite 4s: Agatha, Phoebe, and Shauntal.

First of all, make them harder to beat but fun, unlike Isshu where the first Gym was harder than normal but the solution to it was given by trainers and all we had to do was going through a bit more of training (Striaton leaders, Dreamyard monkeys and Cheren is Aspertia, I'm thinking of you).

Make it possible to have rematches like in HG/SS.

As for E4, get those out of the League, and not just the champion.

For the types, Grass and Poison in the League, Fire as the 7th GL and Dark as the 8th.

PS: and no more of Wallace type GL. Wallace was fine in S/R/E but simply obnoxious in AS/OR with those poses and angel-like wings. Even Juan was better.

So? It was used 5 times total and that's still less use than Water and Psychic Types. Plus Ghost to me seems like more a late E4 thing than a GL's Pokémon. Would you rather have another Ghost E4 or have it be an early Gym?

He reminds me of Tucker.

Yeah, I want the games to be less style over substance, as it's just going to look bad when the handheld after 3DS comes out. At least 5th Gen games have more going for them than dated graphics.

Who said it had to be an early Gym? I think 5th-8th would be more appropriate for a Ghost type Gym.

Something that I wish for is the concept of dual-typed gyms with themes.
It would be cool since it could help gyms cover their own weaknesses and many types have some crossover appeal.
It obviously wouldn't be double battle exclusive either. The roster could expand into 2 > 4 > 6 during the story but I would expect the limit to be 4 in the first playthrough.

Examples (not necessarily in badge order):
Dojo Gym: Normal + Fighting
Wetlands Gym: Water + Bug, Grass, or Poison
Archeology Gym: Rock + Dragon or Ground
Fright Gym: Ghost + Dark (or Bug even)
Altitude Gym: Flying + Ice
Ironworks Gym: Steel + Fire
Royal Garden Gym: Grass + Fairy
Futuristic Gym: Electric + Psychic

That leaves out most of the types for the Elite Four, and it just occured to me that the duality could also just be exclusive for the E4 and Champion instead of the Gym Leaders. All 18 types could be represented in this way. "It all comes together" right?

I also subscribe to the 2 regions idea somewhat so if that's the case then I'd like types that weren't represented in Kalos.

Single type archetypes I'd want to see:
Male Fairy type user: Someone like Wallace or Burgh seems obvious although someone like Crasher Wake or Wulfric using Fairy types would be entertaining.
Female Ground type user: Someone energetic/tomboyish like Flannery but could be more academic like Roxanne in the archeology-example
Male Ghost type user: Someone sort of weird and energetic like Phoebe, sometimes speaks in CAPS like he's scared or wants to scare you. Could also invoke a vampire-like theme Grimsley

Obligatory Dark Gym Leader request

Flying / Grass / Fairy / Rock E4, Champion - obvious 6 region-exclusives

It would also be fun if you encountered each of them every once in a while during the story but "save" the surprise that they're from the E4.

Now that I got a good look at Alola, I might as well speculate which Gym Leaders and Types could be native to our new region.

1. Rock Type
Since Brock, Roxanne, and Roark were the first Gym Leaders of their respective regions that specialise in this Type, I reckon history will repeat itself just this once to add one of many nods to Kanto. The first Gym Leader may use Iwanako as his/her ace Pokémon, along with a Rock Type from previous generations, with Geodude being most likely if the first three I've mentioned are any indication.

2. Fire Type
Given the amount of possible volcanoes each island will have in a sense, I think a Fire Type Gym Leader is logical. You're probably going to have an Old Rod by this point, which means you might have yourself a Water Type that can take on the Leader. Putting out Fire would make a good challenge to a beginner.

3. Grass Type
With various forests and gardens possible in this region, a Grass Type Gym Leader is not out of the question. To even things out with Erika and Gardenia, I think the Grass Leader should be male, just like Ramos, but perhaps a lot younger or inspired by him in some fashion.

4. Water Type
With vast bodies of water in this region, it would be illogical of Game Freak to miss out on this Type, in my opinion. I would welcome a female Gym Leader that is fascinated by the beauty of nature's vast oceans, lakes, or even rivers. She would have Lisia's sense of modelling, but with the battling difficulty on par with that of Misty or Crasher Wake. If one of her Pokémon is Milotic, it would definitely shake things up for the halfway mark of many players.

5. Steel Type
Judging by a town surrounded with a large fortress on the eastern island, I reckon this will be a Steel Type Gym. I believe the protected town will have a lot of medieval history to it's backstory. The Gym Leader would use physically powerful Pokémon like Escavalier or Aegislash to reflect on all those brave knights who fought brutal battles, or even sturdy walls like Aggron or Steelix to reflect the impenetrable surfaces on his/her ancestor's protective walls.

6. Psychic Type
The Gym Leader would be very knowledgeable about astrology. He/she will be important to provide a lot of valuable information in regards to the lore of Solgaleo and Lunala. This Gym should utilise Pokémon like Clefairy, Lunatone/Solrock, Starmie, and even Elgyem, which will tie in effectively to the possibility of alien life outside the world of Pokémon.

7. Ice Type
You're probably getting tired of this, but it's a possibility given that there seems to be a town on the eastern island's mountaintops. The subzero temperatures will prepare the player for confronting the main villain team by that point in the game.

8. Ground Type
Mainly to have ties to that desert-like area on the westernmost island. The Gym Leader may know a lot about the lore of Kalos' Legendaries, and will be very important at a point where you can access Zygarde's domain later on in the game.

As usual, Gamefreak will go for the types that have the most puzzle potential (rather than what types haven't been featured a lot before), and obvious colour/theme, as well as fitting with some special location nearby

We see a volcano->Fire
An ice mountaintop->Ice
And a desert->Rock (we need a late Rock gym for once geez) or Ground
The fact we have an archipelago region->Water
Any kind of Forest->Grass
The celestial themes in general->Psychic
...

I just want another adorable guy Gym Leader/E4 member to fangirl over. Cilan, Chili, Cress, and Clemont, anyone?

Also, I have the perfect concept for a Psychic type Leader/E4 member. He or she could be a fortune teller capable of knowing the future. He or she could also have a lot of knowledge about Solgaleo, Lunala, and whatever the third Alola legendary is. Maybe info about Zygarde too, since he seems to have a major role in the games.

I think we already have Olympia as a fortune telling Psychic Type Gym Leader.

Wouldn't it be more fitting if a Psy GymLeader was 100% space-themed in games with such celestial titles and themes?

My idea is basically have like 12 gyms but you still only need 8 to get to the Pokémon league
Also gym 1 and the last gym could be fixed (as in, when you have at least 7 badges, the last gym before the Pokémon league could always be the same one)
Gym 1 could be Normal, the last gym could be Dark, then the remaining 10 could be Fire, Grass, Water, Ground, Dragon, Poison, Ghost, Steel, Fighting, Rock.
Also to be able to fight the gyms in any order (almost, because story progression) and for it to be open but story heavy, that'd be great.

I also really want the Elite Four to be Electric, Flying, Fairy and Bug tbh. None of those types have had an Elite Four member so.

Bug actually has been done before, we had Aaron in DPPt, but I wouldn't mind having another one. The only other types that haven't been Elite 4 types are Normal, Grass, and Rock.

Good point.

I'd take that point even further:

Since the celestial theme seems to be the reason for Solgaleo/Lunalas primary type being Psychic, maybe a Psy-gym-leader would be of special importance and related to the mascots themselves within the story.
The same way as we had Drayden/Iris as the late-game Dragon experts, telling us about Unovas mascot-legendaries that had Dragon as their primary types.
