Team building process

[icon]38[/icon]
I really wanted to use a sun team because I really like fast Pokemon and as SS+Drizzle and Excadrill are banned the only Pokemon with double the speed are Chlorophyll ones so Ninetales was an obvious choice because of its ability Drought.

[icon]38[/icon][icon]485[/icon]

I needed something to absorb Fire type attacks and set up Stealth Rocks. Heatran provided all that along with an amazing Fire/Steel typing great 130 base special attack and the ability to trap opponents with Magma Storm.

[icon]38[/icon][icon]485[/icon][icon]3[/icon][icon]637[/icon]

Do I really need to explain these two? I really don't know which one is better. Venusaur with its amazing speed and Growth or Volc with Quiver Dance and Fire Blast.

[icon]38[/icon][icon]485[/icon][icon]3[/icon][icon]637[/icon][icon]196[/icon]

I needed to keep the entry hazards away from my team and I choosed something that I haven't tried before, Espeon.

Sawsbuck was pretty much just a second Chlorophyll abuser but it is an amazing addition to my team.

Pokemon Analysis

NinetalesFinalXous2S.png
Pokemon:NinetalesItem:Leftovers
Ability:Drought
EVs: 144 HP / 252 SAtk / 112 Spd
Nature:ModestMoves:
  • Sunny Day
  • Will-O-Wisp
  • SolarBeam
  • Fire Blast

A sun team can't work without Ninetales. Being the only OU Pokemon with the ability Drought it earned its spot on my team. I am currently using the Sunny Day version as it gives me the best shot at winning the weather war. Hidden Power Ice was used at first over Will-O-Wisp so dragons don't set up on Ninetales. Will-O-Wisp lets me burn them and it is my best move when I expect a switch. It also cripples Tyranitar. Fire Blast hits everything that doesn't resist if for good amount of damage and SolarBeam provides good coverage with it hitting bulky Water and Rock types.

heatran_v_2_by_xous54-d32chzi.png
Pokemon:HeatranItem:Air Balloon
Ability:Flash Fire
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Nature:ModestMoves:
  • Stealth Rock
  • Magma Storm
  • Hidden Power [Ice]
  • Earth Power

I needed a Flash Fire user so that my opponent doesn't kill me with my own weapon. It was either going to be Arcanine or Heatran. Access to SR as well as having a Steel typing made it a superior choice. Magma Storm hurts like hell in sun and it traps Politoed and Tyranitar wanting to switch in. I am currently thinking of changing it to Fire Blast as the accuarcy can be annoying. Hidden Power Ice and Earth Power provide good coverage and they let me hit Dragons and Water types respectievly.

EspeonXousFINAL.png
Pokemon:EspeonItem:Leftovers
Ability:Magic Bounce
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Nature:TimidMoves:
  • Calm Mind
  • Morning Sun
  • Hidden Power [Fire]
  • Psyshock

The best Pokemon on my team. I thought Espeon will be just here so that the opponent is afraid of setting up hazards. I was wrong, very wrong. It absoultely destroys stall teams if the sun is up. Calm Mind boost its special attack and special defense. Psyshock is the main STAB as I need it to hit Chansey and Blissey on their weaker side. Hidden Power Fire grants me a secondary STAB move in the sun and it lets me KO things like Scizor (who doesn't kill me with a CB Bullet Punch), Ferrothorn and Skarmory.

volcarona_v_2_by_xous54-d3bstfh.png
Pokemon:VolcaronaItem:Leftovers
Ability:Flame Body
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Nature:ModestMoves:
  • Quiver Dance
  • Hidden Power [Ground]
  • Bug Buzz
  • Fire Blast

I usually run the defensve variant if I use sun but I found myself needing that coverage of Hidden Power Ground so I am using the full offensive version for now. I am not really sure about the set so if you have a better ideal let me know. Quiver Dance is probably the best boosting move along with Shell Smash. Fire Blast is really powerful even without the boost as it does around 60% to Terrakion. Bug Buzz is my secondary STAB and Hidden Power Ground lets me beat Heatran and Terrakion.

586ASawsbuck.png
Pokemon:SawsbuckItem:Life Orb
Ability:Chlorophyll
EVs: 112 HP / 248 Atk / 148 Spd
Nature:AdamantMoves:
  • Swords Dance
  • Jump Kick
  • Return
  • Horn Leech

Wait, what a NU Pokemon in OU? Yep that is right and it does its job excellent. The benefit of Sawsbuck good speed is that it lets me outspeed even +1 base 110 Pokemon like Scarf Latios. Swords Dance let me boost when I see that nothng is stopping it from sweeping. Return and Horn Leech are good STABs and they hit everything but the steel types for neutral damage. Jump Kick is there for Steels like Ferrothorn. I used Nature Power before which transforms into Earthquake but I found myself walled by Ferro to often.

VenusaurFinalXous1.png
Pokemon:VenusaurItem:Leftovers
Ability:Chlorophyll
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Nature:ModestMoves:
  • Growth
  • Hidden Power [Ice]
  • SolarBeam
  • Sleep Powder

Another Chlorophyll abuser. Also probably the Pokemon whose moveset I changed the most but I am currently happy with this one. Growth lets me boost my special attack to sky high levels. Sleep Powder is like an emergency button if I don't how to stop something. Hidden Power Ice is for pesky Dragons trying to stop it and Solarbeam is a really powerful STAB move. Sometimes I regret using Solarbeam if facing another waether team but I can't count times its power saved me so note that when suggesting Energy Ball over it.

Wow, this looks like a great sun team! Normally I read these things expecting to go "DRAGONITE WEAK" or "MIRROR MATCH WEAK" but you seem to have covered your weaknesses very effectively.

Some things to consider:
I might try either Protect on Ninetales, or Wish on Espeon, to try and keep Ninetales alive longer. Obviously without Ninetales the strategy of this team fails, so you'll have to be sure to keep it alive for the matches when you're locked in a weather war with sand or rain. Wish and Protect can help ensure that.

I always liked Donphan as a spinner on Sun over Espeon as a bouncer, because if your opponents manage to shock you with something that doesn't normally have Stealth Rock, they're going to sit there the entire match. Also, if your opponent runs 3 Pokémon that MIGHT have SR (ex: They run Heatran, Tyranitar, and Jirachi all on the same team) You're forced to switch Espeon into all of them because you don't know which one carries it. With Donphan you could let them set up and then just spin it away later. You could also try using both Espeon and Donphan on the same team, although I'm not sure what I'd tell you to take out.

Lastly, Tornadus is going to rip through this team. Hurricane hits everything except Heatran neutrally. With that EV Spread, Heatran won't like absorbing it either. Plus, Tornadus might carry Focus Blast as well. Even with Sun up, you're going to have to pray that they miss. I think adding something more specially defensive to the team will help with this weakness, something like Jirachi w/ Fire Punch (he can use wish too!), Snorlax, or even Blissey. I realize Blissey doesn't generally fit well onto offensive teams, but it's better than nothing. Snorlax would do well as Thick Fat would make it easy to switch into Fire attacks from your opponents, and he can use Curse or Choice Band to make an offensive threat.

Sorry it took this long to respond school is killing me.

I'll try Protect on Ninetales. I am not sure over which move I should use it but I'll try to experiment a bit with it. Espeon really doesn't have room for Wish, it can't pass big Wishes and it doesn't have good synergy with Ninetales so everthing that will hit Espeon for a good amount of damage it will hit Ninetales also (the only exception I see are Bug moves).

I used Donphan before and it is a good Pokemon, even better in sun. But as an offensive player I must say that I really like having the momentum going for me. Basically when I use a spinner (Donphan, Starmie etc.) and I get a free switch in to clean the field of hazards I usually end up attacking the switch-in if I can hit it hard with my spinner or switching to a counter so I keep the momentum. So I always need to choose between momentum and no hazards. Espeon provides me both of these things. Also multiple Pokemon that can learn SR or Spikes on one team is not that common as one would think and actually I really don't have any problems predicting entry hazards coming. In a case of two Pokemon learning the same hazard 99% of the time Pokemon with more options in his movepool isn't going to have hazards. Example if I see an opponent with Hippowdon and Heatran you can bet your house on Hippowdon. For some reason people often go for hazards when you have a Magic Bouncer probably thinking nahhh he what are the odds of Espeon coming in so it is pretty obvious when rocks are coming. And the last thing I can still play with hazards on as the only Pokemon that suffer from it are Volcarona and Ninetales.

I agree Tornadus (and Terrakion) do massive damage whenever they come in. That is why I try to have momentum on my side. Also as this an all out offensive team I can afford to sacrifce something to move the momentum on my side. But yeah those two are giving me troubles even though the overall speed and power of this team so I'll try to find a solution. I am not a big fan of Blissey and Snorlax mostly due to the nature of this team but I'll try Jirachi probably some offensive moveset.

Thanks for a rate Teapot, I always admire your effort in writting good (long) posts. Also I would like more rates from other people as this team is far from perfect.

Very nice team, SS! I always expect great RMT's from you, and you've never failed to deliver.

So, on to the team. In all honesty, there aren't many glaring weaknesses that your team has, so it's difficult to simply say "X is weak to Y, change Move A to Move B", due to the many threats and scenarios this team faces. Other than Protect on Ninetails and Fire Blast/Lava Plume on Heatran, your moves are pretty much at their max potential, with a nice inclusion of Psyshock to take Blissey on.

Even so, your team would still have a problem facing some defensive threats if your weather synergy is interrupted. I think that Terrakion would do a good job quickly taking out threats like Specially Defensive Dragonite (the Sub/Dragon Tail would be a PAIN to your set-up sweepers) with Stone Edge, along with other problem Pokemon, and would bring a bit more offensive presence to the team than Sawsbuck would, imo. Terrakion has a few sets that are determined by what your team needs, but I think a Choice Scarf or Choice Band set would work nicely here, since you already have 3 other Pokemon that rely on setting up. I can post a set if you'd like, but you probably already have an idea of what Terrakion would use anyways.

Other than that nitpick, I don't see much else wrong with the team. You've got great support in the form of Espeon and Heatran, and you should have an easy time sweeping after you've juggled your opponent around a bit with your physical sweeper and Ninetails. If there's something else you think I should take a look at or need help with on the team, don't hesitate to ask! Nice work, and great RMT.

SK lol

What server is that on? Getting these points on the ladder so quickly makes me want to start laddering on Smogon again.
