Sorry for this but I couldnt find a thread for it....

I have a shadowless base set and upon looking properly into it, alot of the cards ahave different shades off colour to the holofoil, is this how it should be?

just wondering incase i have any fakes, they look real in terms of the backs of the cards, the feel, and the posistioning of the cards art.

Any info is good info

The Shadowless card are a little miscolored. If they look, feel, and just seem real than they probably are. That is how they're supposed to look. On another note, that auction link is *so* tempting. :p

Yeah, the shadowless cards are going to look overall different shade-wise when compared to shadowed cards.

Meh, I wouldn't even touch that auction. Look at the picture of the back - at the top there is a good dash of edge wear, and the bottom corners are slightly worn. The price it's at now is too high, so I'd wait for better ;)

I have a few shadowless cards and almost bought a shadowless Charizard(My mom thought 34 dollars was too much, wouldn't let me buy it.) They are all different. the HP isn't bold and they are called shadowless since they lack a shadow around the box. I don't see why your so worried they are fake.

All shadowless cards are less bold than their shadowed counterparts. It's just how they were printed. They also have thinner HP text and the attacks look less organized (non-centered energies etc.).

They're not fake. WOTC revamped the Base Set cards to make them look more professional. That is why we see a pretty significant difference between shadowless and shadowed.

lol right now $281 on the first auction-yikes! :p

Your charizad doesnt look fake to me, I really dont think it is, dont stress ;) I think you have the shadowless one!

EDIT heres a guide im currently reading: http://reviews.ebay.com/Shadowless-Pokemon-Card-Guide-Which-is-Which-L-K?ugid=10000000001282903

I think I may have just a few shadowless cards, lemme check and I can take pix for you! My gyarados I thought was shadowless isnts but its still an error card :p

WOW I suck I only have 4 shadowless cards... well my pikachu is my favorite, and its my most favorite of all my pikachu cards! ^-^ <3

These cards are also known as first print cards too. These ones were the very first print and I think these are considered a little rarer than the unlimited set since they don't print them like that anymore. I have a few of these cards but I am not sure how much more rare than the unlimited cards are however. When I first saw one of these I thought they were in the sun to long and faded away and were not worth anything. Then over the years I found out they were first print cards. First print cards are actually a better term to use rather than Shadowless cards. The thread should be changed to first print cards so that way everyone knows. I did not know until right now what shadowless was until I saw the photos above^^^ so yeah first print is a better term for these cards XD.:)

No, Shadowless is the most appropriate term. I don't mean to be rude or offensive, but with proper education, which can be found using this guide here. This guide allows you to see the 4 different types of Base Set cards.
So, there are essentially 4 respective Base Set Print Runs. However, upon further research, there is known to be 8 print runs.

I first heard this from DJGigabyte:
1- Shadowless
2- Unlimited
3- Unlimited
4- Unlimited
5- Unlimited
6- Unlimited
7- Unlimited
8- Base 2000

Print Runs 2-7 are essentially identical, and therefore classified as the 3 generic Print Run out of the 4.

The only time where it would be most appropriate to use a Print Run as classification would be when addressing Print Run 4 (or 8) which deals with the latest release that has the 1999-2000 at the bottom.

For me this is how I cassify them. It is the easiest way for me to what is from what XD. If you think about it they are first print cards since the printing method was changed in the later years LOLz. Thanks though. This is how I handle these cards.:)

But wouldnt the 1st ed shadowless print run be classed as a desperate print run to just the shadowless?

No. The first two print runs are essentially the same. They printed a bunch of shadowless cards, but the first ones were sent away to be stamped with the 1st edition stamp. So, the 1st edition symbol was not printed on the cards, but rather stamped onto the first shadowless cards printed.
After the 1st edition released, they printed more shadowless cards, but just did not have them stamped with the 1st edition symbol

That Ghost Pikachu is quite nice, Shining Milotic. A friend of mine just had that sitting in his base set collection until I found it and pointed it out as a shadowless redcheek.

That's not a ghost Pika...

I always thought shadow cards were always fake too. I thought that too for a long time because they do kind of look like fake cards. There actually was a fake base set of these cards and all had purple backs and were drastically smaller too. If you compare the fake ones to the real cards the fake ones are a whole border smaller than the real ones. Which means 3 of the sides will be normal size but one of the vertical or horizontal sides is smaller. Can't remember what edge is smaller but they are. The easiest way to tell if it is a fake is put the fake or possible fake and put it right on top of your real cards to tell them apart XD.:)
