XY Separated Pokédex?

Why do you guys think the areas will contain specific types? Any type can be in either the Central, the Coastal or the Mountain area, it depends on the habitat of the Pokémon, not its type...

i agree with Metalizard
especially since the logic of "dragon-types can learn surf" making them coastal (Only water-related dragons- Dratini line, Kingdra, Palkia)
and then the grass on mountain thing... oh god i had no idea there was so much more grass on those mountains of rock than in fields
and flying types being coastal because of storms? so you're saying birds are the cause of hurricanes?

why would grass types be on the mountains? dragon-types and fire-types i can see on the mountain more, and electric-types and flying-types seem to fit more in central. ice might fit in mountain as well, with there being a giant ice mountain and all

There are trees and grass on mountains..aren't there? haha. Well..dragon types like Hydreigon and Garchomp and Kingdra are either water types or can learn Surf so that's why I put it with coastal. I thought flying would be coastal because of like hurricanes or the breeze at the beach and seagulls... . And some ice could be on mountains or the coastal.

Well according to PMD Red and Blue Friend Areas:

Water types are most common in Coastal and least in Central.
Flying types are most common in Central and least in Mountain.
Ice types are most common in Coastal and least in Central.
Dragon types are most common in Coastal and least in Central.
Bug types are most common in Central and least in Mountain.
Rock types are most common in Mountain and least in Central.
Psychic types are most common in Central and least in Mountain.
Ground types are most common in Central and least in Coastal.
Electric types are most common in Central and least in Coastal.
Fire types are most common in Mountain and least in Coastal.
Dark types are most common in Central and least in Coastal.
Grass types are most common in Central and least in Coastal.
Poison types are most common in Central and least in Coastal.
Normal types are most common in Central and least in Mountain.
Steel types are most common in Central and least in Mountain.
Fighting types are most common in Mountain and least in Central.
Ghost types are most common in Mountain and least in Central.

I'm counting Lakes, River, Beaches, Glacier, Isles and Seas as Coastal.
Plains, Ponds, Forests, Relics, Desert, Swamps and Urban as Central.
Volcanoes, Mountains, Caves and Sky as Mountain.

You don't get Normal, Steel, Fighting and Ghost in Coastal or Grass, Electric, Water and Ice in Mountain

I'm sure it depends on the actual pokemon.. for example dragons could be anywhere depending on their design and where gamefreak wants to put them.
And surely there will be Water pokemon in all those rivers etc etc...

Mitja's right. I mean, think of FRLG with the habitats.
dratini's family is a dragon, but will be seen in water, and gible's family is a dragon but will be found in deep dark caves
charmander's family is fire-type but will be found on mountains, vulpix and it's evo. are fire-type but found in forests and grasslands
etc

that would make sense, since Pokemon seems to test stuff for the next generation
Friendship in yellow, used in GS
Time in GS, used in RS
Natures in RS, helped make Characteristics in DP
Wild double battles in DP (but first tested in RS), used in BW

The way this pokedex is set up is probably somewhat similar to the habitat list in B2/W2

IMO, it's more like what they did with the FRLG dex.

Maybe the map is just too big for one pokedex! The city looks huge so the map might be too. Here's for hoping.

I've been thinking about what Pokemon are going to be in the Kalos Dex, but the fact that it's split into three has made things somewhat complicated as far as Dex speculation. So I went back through and tried to match some of the Pokemon I've speculated to some of the areas in the game. Here's what I've come up with so far with the Pokemon distribution (note that this is mainly past gen Pokemon, revealed 6th gen Pokemon, and speculated new evolutions, as I have little to no clue what kinds of new Pokemon could be added):

Rt. 1:

@Bolt Helioptile was level 20 in the trailer so I would expect Helioptile to be in route 5 or 6. I would expect that the Pokemon cut in half (cough* Pidgey* cough) will be found in route 2 with Fletchling (and Zigzagoon). I also noticed that Pidgeotto was found in route 11 and I would believe that there would be higher level Pokemon.

Both Marill and Roselia are in all three the Pokédegis (what is the plural anyway?). Apart from the fact that all these Pokémon are just speculation, I think they suppose to contain different Pokémon.

That doesn't really prove much. The battles could be staged for all we know.

And I would expect Lv. 20 Pokemon to start showing up around Rt. 7 or 8.

None of us know exactly how the dex will handle Pokemon that show up in different areas. I think that Pokemon could show up in different subdexes, though.

No I'm saying that wind is. Wind and flying are very similar...therefore my point.

I'm assuming that there will be a standard pokedex numbering system like normal and then maybe a sub-pokedex type numbering for pokemon of different areas of the region. However like earlier mentioned it could just be a way to break it down into habitats.

I also agree with Metalizard that pokemon are not placed based (by location) on type, but by what would best suit them as creatures naturally. There will probably be pokemon that are not specific to just one location, just like zubat can be caught in many caves across the region and magikarp in many waters north and south.

Also Floodbadge, I feel the need to disagree about your "testing" hypothesis. I think what you're looking at as GF testing their audience is actually them just evolving with the generations and consoles by providing more asthetic and mechanical features. Everyone loves the pokemon companion in HG/SS, but they only give us that option in those games (not including yellow). It would also just seem more natural to provide more features to breathe life into the virtual universe.

flying animals and wind aren't similar. one of them is the force of moving air, and the other is just a creature flying through the air. that's like saying boats and water are very similar

They're similar enough that nearly all wind-based Pokémon moves are Flying-type, and that whenever anyone suggests adding a Wind type it gets shouted down immediately because it would be too similar to Flying, and that the only pure Flying-type in existence right now is a wind spirit.

In the real world, that argument kind of makes sense, but with Pokémon logic, you kinda just have to roll with it.

I don't know about you, but I, personally, think that the split is because X and Y will have a LOT of Pokés to catch, so much that it needs to be split for, don't know, easier navigation?

I'm seeing a space, what we assume is zigzagoon, Fletchling and 2 spaces, then something that looks blueish [could be the tint, though] and 2 more spaces, and then another mystery thing. So unless the 'blueish thing' has a prevo, Fletchling likely has a 3 stage line.

fletchling is likely (in my opinion) to be the pidgey/starly/pidove of the generation. And i would be quite happy to have the cute little guy evolve into something more badass at some point
