Round-Robin Short Story & Long Poem Contest II

Rules and Entry Requirements

1.) Round-Robin writing is a short-round contest in which up to eight people attempt to write the best short story based on a given theme/genre without exceeding the preset word-count limits. All entries are due by the fourth Wednesday after this thread has been started, and at least two are required for voting to commence (otherwise, the contest may be extended).

2.) Like the Haiku & Short-Poem Contest, entries will be taken on a “first-come first-serve” basis, meaning that slots will be filled depending on the order in which entries are received. All submissions are to be made directly to me ([mod]Incinermyn[/mod]) via PM before 3:00PM Central Daylight Time on the Wednesday they’re due on. Whatever entries I receive will then be randomized and posted sometime later that afternoon or the following Thursday.

3.) Voting will be conducted via poll. The poll will be left open for about a week, and depending on how many votes are made, the winner will be determined based on their point value. In the event of a tie, I will be the one to make the final decision of who wins.

4.) Contrary to what was stated previously, the winner of the last round will be allowed to enter this one as well.

Due Date: Wednesday, August 1st, 2012
Word-Count Minimum/Maximum: Not set/Not set
Theme/Genre: Author’s Choice/Author’s Choice

You have four weeks, writers! Good luck and Godspeed!

Entry List
1.)
In the plains with no grass
in the sky with no clouds
Rides the Guardian of my life
and flies the Guardian of my death

In the stars and in the moon
in the shine of the Sun
I lay my wishes
and show our will

He who brings the darkness
and she who gives me light
Are the lords I pray to
and the masters I obey

Let the end of my days be the most great of all
let me see my soul
As I walk trough Heaven's hall
I will not become a ghoul.

I salute you
oh friend of mine
As I know that you like me,
that you deserve to shine.

And so, as the Sunsets and the Moon rises
I have completed all of my duties
Received my prizes
and reached my soul's beauty.

2.)
I sleep embedded in stone. I have longed to awaken...

I am Reshiram. I search of my rival, Zekrom. Yes, we have been locked in eternal battle, even in our dreams. As I said, I shall awaken- but only for a worthy hero. I sit in what these humans call a museum. They look at me, and few have had the potential; almost enough to awaken me. But I sensed evil in the deepest corners of their mind. I knew that they would not be worthy.

And so I sit, covered in dust, in this museum. I can only hope to fight along a good, resourceful Trainer. One that won't use me just for power, but for good and truths.

Ah! Someone is opening the force field around me. Reaching for what's left of me. She seems evil but good. Honest and sorry for me; sorry that she had been forced to join this gang of thugs. I sense sadness in her heart.

"I'm sorry, but I have to... or they'll kill me..." a whisper comes from her mouth. She puts me in her pocket, and runs for a ladder hanging from the ceiling. I know what she's thinking. That she could use me to escape this gang she calls Team Plasma. I feel compelled to awaken, but I need to find out more.

It's midnight. The teenage girl is bringing me into a house in a forest.

"Home... ah. Finally. I really need a break from this team. It's just wrong... they want to force Reshiram to awaken. Only if I could wake it up instead!" she sighs. "Maybe I can to try to escape it myself."

I know Team Plasma's ways. They had once killed a girl for resisting them. Sometimes I wonder if they should even think of taking over the world. It's literally impossible.

"With their new leader N, Reshiram will probably awaken to him. He is honest and kindhearted, after all. Only if I could prove myself worthy..." She takes me out of her pocket and puts me on a table. Then she sits on a chair. "They've bugged this home," she cries. "I'll be dead by dawn. Just like that last one who tried to escape. I'd heard that their Hydreigon ripped her body apart. It makes me want to hit the Seven Sages, just thinking of the Hydreigons eating the dead girl. It's gross and disgusting, I just want to get out of there and fly free like a Tranquill."

I almost came out of my sleeping body at that last part. Now Pokemon are eating humans? And I thought that Kyurem was the only violent one. Now I truly want to awaken for this girl. To save her at the last minute. She puts me back in her pocket, and goes to her bed. While she dreams about Pokemon and freedom, I dream of Kyurem and Zekrom teaming up. They're laughing at me.

"Why, you'd choose a immature girl over Lord N!" Zekrom bellows.

I frown. "You're the immature one. I've never laughed at you. I have only fought for freedom, and I propose that you do the same. I want to call a truce."

"Hmph! Where's the fun in that?" Kyurem sneers. "Zekrom here is a whole year older than you. He knows that you will never awaken...!" Suddenly, dark void covers both of their bodies. When it disappears, Kyurem is now as black as Zekrom, and he's got glowing red eyes. They're making a eerie sound, one that a Dragon never utters... and I realize they're snarling, with their teeth bared. Zekrom bites my wing, and tears it off. Pain shoots through my body.

Cannibals. This can't be real. This can't be! I force myself to look up to Zekrom- and black out. The last thing I remember is that I was screaming, and the girl was being carried up into the air.

When I wake up, I see the Hydreigon. Then a voice blasts through the air...

"Young Dani, you have broken Rule 6- and in doing so, you shall be tortured."

...and I almost cry. I know she can't survive. I jump out of the pocket, and I feel a odd tingling. I know I am transforming. When I have finished, I scald the Hydreigon with my fiery breath, and they drop Dani. I catch her. I know I have made the final decision.

RE: Round-Robin Contest II

I'm really not motivated at all to write something for this. There's no set theme or genre. It doesn't get my creative juices flowing.

RE: Round-Robin Contest II

If you have any suggestions for a theme or genre, let me know. I just didn't have any ideas when I posted this round's thread, so I left them open.

RE: Round-Robin Contest II

Let's just say that I have an interesting idea. I'm in.

RE: Round-Robin Contest II

Fair enough. I'll await your submission.

RE: Round-Robin Contest II

Okay. If I want it to be good, though, it will take a MINIMUM of one week to complete. Just letting you know.

RE: Round-Robin Contest II

You have until July 11th, Nigel. There's no rush yet. And, yes, long poems are allowed, Zy.

RE: Round-Robin Contest II

One week left. To this point, I haven't recieved any entries. If necessary, I will extend the deadline two weeks, though I may do that anyways since July is sometimes my busiest work month.

RE: Round-Robin Contest II

I'm unsure about my work schedule the rest of this week, so I'm going to extend the deadline another two weeks.

RE: Round-Robin Contest II

Update: I've extended the deadline for this contest until August 1st. This is mostly due to how my Internet time is probably going be pretty limited until then due to a heavy workload that's coming in for me right now. Unless, by some miracle I get all eight slots filled before then, that's where I'm going to stand with the deadline on this. Hopefully, this won't be the second and final round... :/

RE: Round-Robin Contest II

I have two free weeks left :)

I'm going to enter, but I do wonder if people aren't entering because of summer camp or they're just ignorant.
Either that, or they have a hard time thinking up stories...

RE: Round-Robin Contest II

I'm going to abolish the minimum word requirement this round since I am taking both long peoms and stories for this now.

RE: Round-Robin Contest II

Summer holiday without a laptop is making it hard for me to work on this. I might send something in around the deadline, but I‘m not sure.

RE: Round-Robin Contest II

If you can, that would be great. If not, that's okay. I'm basically taking any story or long poem submissions at this point, and I think I'll keep it that way next round too.

RE: Round-Robin Contest II

Darn it. Next time I'm going to hurry up and be the first. If I don't win, that is.

-sent in entry-

RE: Round-Robin Contest II

There are only four days left for entries. I have the minimum requirement, but any extras would be appreciated.

RE: Round-Robin Contest II

Last call for any outstanding entries. Wednesday is the last day I will accept them (time permitting).
