PokéPoetry! #4

Once again, PB writers, it's time for an exhilarating contest! We are excited to introduce a new style of contest - one that we've never done before. I don't want to espouse a bunch of superfluous jargon, so I'll cut to the chase. We are introducing a poetry contest. "Well, what do we have to do?" "What does this contest entail?" Simply, you must follow these rules, and we will explain.

Rules

I. You must reserve a post in this thread, detailing your chosen style of poetry. Example:

Code:
Username: William Shakespeare
Chosen style: Sonnet (Iambic Pentameter)

II. Once we acquire the list of names from your reserved posts, we will RANDOMLY assign a Pokémon with which you will create your freestyle poem.
  • Your poem must at least contain five lines to be accepted, with the sole exception being a haiku.
  • You must write your poem about that assigned Pokemon (you may not request for a change). Failure to do so will result in a disqualification.
  • Be descriptive!

III. Don't plagiarize; any instances of plagiarism will result in a disqualification from the contest and a ban.

IV. You will be able to choose up to three of your favorite poems during the judging phase. You will be able to either "like" the contestant's post or send a PM to [mod]Turtwig[/mod] with the name(s) of the contestant('s)/poem's title. Anyone can vote, not just contestants! All members are encouraged to take part in the voting process.

V. You may edit your poem until the voting phase begins.

VI. Please make sure you use proper spelling and grammar! Poems that fail to reflect this will be disqualified.

This contest will be very relaxed, and you will be given the opportunity to write your poem in any way you desire. For example, if you are assigned a dark, gloomy Pokemon like Mismagius, you are free to make your poem reflect upon that Pokemon's nature and type, or you may completely surprise us and write the complete opposite and incorporate the positives and playfulness of Mismagius. It's all up to you! A few examples of the types of poetry are as follows:
  • Free Verse
  • Blank Verse
  • Haiku
  • Sonnet
  • Epic
  • Limerick
  • Song (duh!)
And many, many more... (Google's your friend)

Important Dates

11/26 - Sign Ups begin.

12/1 - Sign Ups end and Pokémon are assigned.

12/10 - Entries for Round Four are due and voting begins.

12/13 - Voting ends and winners are announced!

So, I've never done Pokemon Poetry, but this might be fun, so I'll have a go at it.

So, an elegy wasn't as easy as I thought. By the way, my Pokemon is Samurott.

"My First Loss"

With the leech seed
Your pain never ceases
With the whip of the vine
He slashed you to pieces

You fainted there
On the cold hard floor
I thought we could go on
I thought I could do more

For, you had shone so bright
For most of the battle
Your water gun
Had slaughtered them like cattle

But then, our nemesis was sent out
We had met Serperior once more
We had a small bit of hope
That we could faint him and make him sore

Alas, it was never to be
I should have known you would faint
I should have called out another
Instead of seeing your tears drip like wet paint

Oh, my dear, sweet Samurott
Forgive the stupidity and insolence of your trainer
Please be revived again
And let me again release you from your pokeball container.

Magmortar is too slow to sweep.
Rarely used, though he can't fall asleep.
That speed is his doom--he's too fast for Trick Room--
That 83 Speed makes him weep.

Hugging a Tree

Mommy, you told me to never play in the woods,
That I would get lost in the dark.
I didn’t believe that I actually could,
So it was a journey that I had to embark.

After all these years of waiting for you, I slowly began to expire.
My soul, left for dead, was forced to flee,
Though found tranquility in a tree-stump’s attire.
But I’m now a dark mass, a phantom, incarcerated in the end of a tree.

You used to tell me that everything would end up alright,
But time has only made it much worse.
I spook the fools that run in the woods each night,
For they are committing the same folly: and I call it the Forest’s Curse.

Mommy, you told me that when I was lost, I should hug the nearest tree,
But you never said that in waiting, the tree would turn into me.

Ah shit-shuppet. Well, here we go:

These Feelings

Rage
Not my own
Intensifying by the moment
Concentrated on who knows what
But that's irrelevant
It's spicy, and I love it

Envy
Focused on things
Inconsequential
It hovers around me
I pull it in
It's sweet, and I love it

Fear
Ever present
Saturating the air
Like a fog surrounding the people
I bask in its presence
It's salty, and I love it

Shuppet
Emotionless
Feeding on others
Rage, Envy, and Fear
I live off of these
It's evil, and I love it

This seems like it will be interesting. I'll join.

Evening Snack

Within a dark and snowy grove
A dark blur dove
Grabs hold a tree
Ascends deftly

Picks up an egg but mother's there
Swoops through the air
The Sneasel claws
The Pidgey falls

The victor stands over his prize
With gleaming eyes
Both egg today
And fowl entrée!

I'm sorry if I'm stealing your thunder, PMJ, but most other poetry bores me.

Shelmet
I didn't remember what a Shelmet was.
It's from Gen V; I mean nobody does.
To my DS, I went back,
Inserted my Black,
And caught the shelled sucker just 'cause.

Hmm, why not give it a go?

I'm so sorry. It's awful. My poetry skills are horrible.

Hunters of the reef
Every captain’s nightmare

Rulers of dead waters
That’s where the Dragalge dwell

And every trespasser
Without mercy they will kill

Seriously how do you right anything about Wingull?

Setting shadows on a crowded harbor,
Secret favorites we do not shelter.

Sitting with claws on a black string,
Wondering if I really need Fling.

Sitting on a telephone wire,
Almost nothing to desire.

But there is one thing that all Wingull dream,
And it isn't to be featured in an OU team.

Hoping one day to father a shiny,
Or to sail the seas with the mythical Mr. Briney.

Gengar
Shadow of Night

Beware the Shadow
The one that moves
Its smile is one of fright
One that shall end all
Till the end of Night

Watch the Moon
Make sure it's empty
For if it is full
You might just feel
The Shadow's pull

Sense the air
Feel the cold
It wants your heat
Just don't let it
Catch up to your feet

Feel your energy
Watch your step
You might dissipate
If you see the smile
It might be too late

Watch your back
You never know
It might be there
Watching you
Take care

So... Grovyle, eh? I'm going to add some sort of twist in this poem and hope it's noticed.

Slashblade (By Luckyfire)

I wake up on the beach, realizing I've no memory.
Somebody helps me up... but...
Ugh... I can't...

A few moments later, I'm in the Guild's armory.
Somebody tells me I am a Treecko, but I insist that I'm human.
I still can't recall my name... maybe Noah?

It does seem odd, though.

All of the sudden, days later, I'm on the run with this Grovyle.
He smiles at me, perhaps wanting me to help.
But with what? I ask him why.

He explains that there's some sort of cycle
in Pokemon, that no one stays human for long.
However... I seem to be the only one who insists I am human.

Ow... what is this flash? I... I think...

"Hey! You've finally evolved!" the Grovyle shouts, a wide grin on his beak.
I look at myself in a puddle... I look almost exactly the same as him, only darker!
He asks me again what my name is and if I'm still the same.

I shrug, but I remembered what he'd said about being at the peak...
I thought he was referring to mountains at that time.
But apparently not, he was referring to my skills.

He looks at me...
"Well, well, looks like you've redeemed yourself again, Slashy."
That mere nickname brought me back.

I remember now; I'm not a human. I am simply Slashblade.

RE: PokéPoetry! IV (Sign Ups)

Signups end in four hours. Also, I have added all the Pokemon that were chosen to the OP and you can find yours by your name. Don't forget that you can change your poem style based on the Pokemon you just received (just ask)!

Good luck everyone! :D

RE: PokéPoetry! IV (Sign Ups)

Dragalge, eh? I can do something with that. Good luck, everybody! :3

RE: PokéPoetry! IV (Sign Ups)

A question: does the title of our poem have to be the name of the Pokemon we were assigned, or can we make it something else?

The title may be anything you please.

Just a friendly reminder, please do not like any of the reserved posts until judging begins. :)
