PokéPoetry! #1

Once again, PB writers, it's time for an exhilarating contest! We are excited to introduce a new style of contest - one that we've never done before. I don't want to espouse a bunch of superfluous jargon, so I'll cut to the chase. We are introducing a poetry contest. "Well, what do we have to do?" "What does this contest entail?" Simply, you must follow these rules, and we will explain.

Rules

I. You must reserve a post in this thread, detailing your chosen style of poetry. Example:

Code:
Username: William Shakespeare
Chosen style: Sonnet (Iambic Pentameter)

II. Once we acquire the list of names from your reserved posts, we will RANDOMLY assign a Pokémon with which you will create your freestyle poem.
  • Your poem must at least contain five lines to be accepted, with the sole exception being a haiku.
  • As always, proper spelling and grammar are a must.
  • Be descriptive!

III. Don't plagiarize; any instances of plagiarism will result in a disqualification from the contest and a ban.

IV. You will be able to choose up to three of your favorite poems during the judging phase. You will be able to either "like" the contestant's post or send a PM to Colress with the name(s) of the contestant('s)/poem's title.

This contest will be very relaxed, and you will be given the opportunity to write your poem in any way you desire. For example, if you are assigned a dark, gloomy Pokemon like Mismagius, you are free to make your poem reflect upon that Pokemon's nature and type, or you may completely surprise us and write the complete opposite and incorporate the positives and playfulness of Mismagius. It's all up to you! A few examples of the types of poetry are as follows:
  • Free Verse
  • Blank Verse
  • Haiku
  • Sonnet
  • Epic
  • Limerick
  • Song (duh!)
And many, many more... (Google's your friend)

Important Dates

8/10 Sign Ups begin.
8/15 Sign Ups end and Pokémon are assigned.
8/24 Entries for Round One are due and voting begins.
8/27 Voting ends and winners are announced!

Forged Armor

Using the most flexible type of metal,
melted onto a poor creature's back.

Heated to the highest and safest possible temperature.
The material quickly turned into a charred tone of black.

The mammal would have quickly perished, if not for a mysterious miracle.

He woke up weeks later.
The metal was still hot.

The blacksmith stroked his head.
But when the creature smiled, flames sprouted out of the three holes on his scalp.
The human's hand survived... not.

The animal was enraged when he stopped stroking his head.
Out of his mouth blazed fire. The man quickly died.

He then escaped the forge.
Police came to capture this beast that nobody had tamed.

Scientists finally caught him.
They changed his main animal group to Pokemon and chose a species name for him.
...
The first Quilava had been born.

Dance of Manipulation

Fading within the depths of darkness,
emanating from the black pearl,
losing sight of the mind, body, and soul,
slowly faltering from the road.

Waves of psychic illuminate within the dark realm,
consuming the heart and raising the soul,
from powerful to powerless, Grumpig raises the whole.

Victory

Down the spiraling stairs, twists and curves,
I step down into a secret, secluded room.
Toys scattered across the floor, nice, pastel-colored pillows adorn the sitting area.
A tiny bed decorates the upper right corner of the enclosed space, and in it, I find a remnant of the past.
A tiny picture frame...

I stare into the frame, wonderfully enthralled in it, but for what reason?
I see a V, a large, red-orange V.
The image holds such awful memories.
Plasma, those evil souls, committed such atrocities,
Here in the lighthouse.

I hold the cracked frame, and when I turn,
I see a teeny, tiny flame.
What on Pokéarth and in Arceus' name?
Two blue eyes peek out at me, and I hear a minute squeak.
"Victini!" the tiny creature cries, as I aimlessly gaze into its tiny, blue eyes.

It jumps in my arms, and I, amazed, am still entranced in the aimless gaze.
"You're adorable," I mumble, in a soft voice,
As this creature implants in my mind the image of a teenage boy.
Dressed in blue, black, and topped with a red hat, I wonder aloud, "Who in the world is that?"
Then I realize who it is.

Two years ago, the boy saved mysterious V,
And together they coexisted, so happily;
Mysterious V brought them victory,
But when the boy became the Champion,
He threw V aside, and forgot.

V was left, left alone to rot, and then a kind soul had a kind thought.
They took V back to the garden of liberty,
But once more, left the Pokémon fabled to bring victory.
When I came in, it hid from me,
But now I suppose it feels a sense of security.

Oh, tiny Victini, how you could travel and bring the world to me...
Unova is just the first step, then Pokéarth comes next!
You, me, victory, only us three!
Don't you see, we must make my mad dream a reality!
I dedicate my life to science, but I plea...

Victini, bring me victory!

My Dream

I can see the dream for that I strife,
through your abilities come to life

Giving form to fantasies, a true artist,
with that beautiful pink mist

With your amazing power,
I feel strong in even the darkest hour

In my sleep or when awake,
Musharna is the one I take

[td]
[/td]

My very first poem. :D

Well Staravia, here we go:

Birds of Feather
397.png

Birds of feather flock together,
And Staravia are no different.
While groups are strong,
And wingspans long,
They cry when no one's present.

Sometimes Staravia don't know whether
This place is theirs or not.
Our Mukubird,
Its Japanese word,
Will scratch and claw a lot.

Birds of feather flock together,
But none are the same so far.
With an 'M' on its chest,
It can be the very best
And make Staravia a true star.

Discarded Squirtle

The sand creases beneath my weak feet,
As the waves cascade against the shore.
I land on my back, my shell still cracked,
Wishing that I had given more.

An outcast, a misfit, is what I have become;
Discarded by my trainer, neglected by most.
I wander without hand around this desolate land,
A lonesome figure set against the dying coast.

I lie down as the sun creeps under,
Fading away to unsettling black.
I close my eyes as tears subside,
Dreaming of the comfort I lack.

I wake up in idyllic fashion;
Hands and warmth smother me close.
Upwards I peek and I'm met with the cheek
Of a friendly figure who can cure my woes.

I am led to a prestigous laboratory,
(Best in the region, I am told),
And after a few tests and a large number of guests
I am put in a Poke-ball and behold!

A trainer strides into the welcoming room,
And is given a Pokedex to carry,
He takes one look and twas me that he took!
He goes by the name of Gary.

Wait for my trainer

Worst part is: I've never even used Staravia before :p. I used Honchkrow in Diamond and Crobat in Platinum. Hopefully it won't be too bad.

RE: PokéPoetry! #1 (Sign Ups)

To be truthful, it was by sheer chance. If I could have it my way, I would choose a Pokemon that reflects who I am, but I will try to do my best with Victini. I don't really know much about Victini, so it's time to study.
