Biweekly Haiku Contest VI

Rules and Entry Information

1.) Post here saying that you want to enter and you’ll be accepted. The cap for entries is slated at twenty contestants per round, and signups will end as soon as that number has been met, the deadline for entries has passed, or the thread sits for several days without any new entries (during which private submissions may be accepted via PM to me).

2.) Participation simply requires entrants to write a short poem in the style of haiku (the alternating “Five-Seven-Five Syllables” per line format) and post it here as an entry, though submitting them via PM or Profile Message to me is fine too. All poems are due by the second Thursday after this thread has been revealed, and voting begins once the deadline has passed or all entries are made. Submissions are final, but if I feel a poem should be revised slightly (or if they want to replace it with another version), I’ll do it with the writer’s consent.

3.) Each poem for the contest must follow the selected theme for the competition. Due to artist’s having different interpretations of ideas, no haiku will be disqualified for writing about divergent topics so long as the theme is tied in somehow (if it isn’t, then you might get disqualified for the duration of this round depending on how I feel about the situation). This contest’s theme is Childhood Comforts.

4.) Voting will run for three days and be open to all members of PokéBeach. Each person will be allowed three votes for their favorites. All participants are expected but not required to vote as well; however, you are not allowed to vote for your own (if I catch you doing so, you’ll be docked a point).

RE: Haiku Contest VI (18 slots open)

I shall be entering, though, oddly enough, I don't have an entry yet.

RE: Haiku Contest VI (18 slots open)

Added. I usually add my own entry ahead of time since these contests have only had so many people enter them to this point, and I like participating anyhow.

RE: Haiku Contest VI (18 slots open)

I usually enter with an entry, but now I have the time to write, so here it is.

The "I dunno" Haiku
Who licked the knife?
Who put the fork in the wall?
Who smashed the plate?

Is this acceptable? It's certainly about typical immature behavior, and possible comfort taken from those activities...
:/
I'll redo it if I have to.

RE: Haiku Contest VI (17 slots open)

I would like to enter

The brown teddy bear
Makes me feel like I am safe
It was my first friend

RE: Haiku Contest VI (16 slots open)

And, updated. I also take entry requests if people run them by me via PM, profile message, chat, and so on.

RE: Haiku Contest VI (14 slots remaining)

Wow...
I'ma in with
The night light!
Scared of the dark.
The night light so bright.
It makes it light.

^_^

RE: Haiku Contest VI (13 slots remaining)

And updated. I love how the first several slots always fill up right away, but it's also a little disappointing that it doesn't keep going much beyond that. Hopefully even more people will enter this time now that the haiku contest has been advertised in the portal again, but I'm not betting on it.

RE: Haiku Contest VI (13 slots remaining)

No, what I meant is just that it seems like most people signup for this in the first day or two, but then that's usually it.

RE: Haiku Contest VI (12 slots remaining)

Haha. I knew what you meant.

I was referred to the fact that I've been in all of the previous, so I'm going to continue by participating in this one.

It was a failed attempt at being surprising (which was the goal).

RE: Haiku Contest VI (12 slots remaining) HI!

Blankie

Blankie, friend fore're.
Always kept me company.
Even till this day.

RE: Haiku Contest VI (12 slots remaining)

I would like to enter please!!

Peggy.

Big dog, big hearted.
She was gentle as a lamb,
Always my best friend.

RE: Haiku Contest VI (12 slots remaining)

I'll join, but I don't have an entry yet... This one will be difficult for me...

Here:

(de)Construction

Childhood memories
All uprooted in a day
By beasts in yellow.

Kind of stretching the theme, but I guess I could change it if you like...

RE: Haiku Contest VI (10 slots remaining)

Updated!

I'm only really going to discriminate against poems that have nothing to do with the theme whatsoever. Small tie-in are fine so long there is a reference. Besides, I thought theme would be the easiest yet for people of any age to write about.

RE: Haiku Contest VI (10 slots remaining)

I dunno about you, but I find this topic to be a little bit difficult (at least more so than previous prompts...)

Here is hopefully a more acceptable entry:

Haiku for Bedtime
Night is drawn around,
and just one book will I read.
You demand more: nine.

RE: Haiku Contest VI (10 slots remaining)

Childhood Haikou:
When mommy is near,
She is my comfort, and love,
My mommy, so dear.

RE: Haiku Contest VI (10 slots remaining)

Alright, the OP has been updated again. Also, syneptus, you don't have to feel pressured to have haikus ready straight-away. Part of having the final deadline be more than a week out is to give you time to write something worthwhile. I'm pretty lenient and don't have a problem making small concessions for people too if and when they need them.

RE: Haiku Contest VI (10 slots remaining)

I would also Like to enter.

Mother

Children fall a lot
Children cry very loudly then
Mother picks them up.

Mothers embrace, is what I am getting at.
