The magic wand selects a color range in an image (I.e. a white background). It's usually quite a bit less acurate than the Polygonal Lasso tool, but it takes like two seconds.
Another more personalized (but still easy) way to do it is to go to Select>Color Range>Selected color (or Black or White, whatever you happen to want to select.)

My Pse doesn't have select color range.
If anybody's wondering, that's why all my scanned stuff has pixelated lineart. I need to scan it that way to be able to remove the background easily.

I used the render I provided in my post, 2 fractals, 2 stock images. It's Graphic Design so I didn't draw it, but I made it using the resources that I've compiled. I can show you the PSD file and exactly what I used if you'd like.
In fact, since I just downloaded all of my materials I'd be happy to share them with anyone who wants to know what I use. Just let me know so I can put it all together.

OC stands for Original Character, and since I'm a geek, I make a bunch of Original Characters that are Pokemon, Keronians, and a bunch of other fan-art stuff. They're pretty fun to play around with. Like imaginary friends.

What I've been up to the last few days -
I always wanted these four on a team bah humbug to only 3 per party -.0 only choose Ayla over Chrono cuz of slurp kiss ;p And very few refs used; I mostly drew from memory.

End of Day 1. Apparently smudging is all I can kinda do at the moment.

It may just be my computer being stupid, but the hair seems kind of pixally at the end...
Also, I don't know too much about flow, but it seems off. The green is the the back, but the blue streaks seem to be heading for the watcher. So, it just seems a little off. Beyond that, I like it!
