Hello everyone, I'm Vom, and after participating in CAC June 2014, I realized how much fun it was to create new cards. So, I decided to make a full set of cards! And as you can see in the title, it's called Cursed Legacy and will have some Team Aqua and Team Magma cards (and Alpha and Omega pokemon, the best among their Pokémon), as well as a sneak-peek to the Delta cards, wich will get further support in the next set, Turbulence of EXtinction. The main thing about the set is however the never-before-seen Ghost Type and Ghost Energy! It will consist of 126 cards, with some EXs, M Evos and Spectral Pokémon (New mechanic I thought of when watching the mummy). Here's the little text written in the Cursed Legacy Booster Box:
A long time ago, in a kingdom now forgotten, the king was betrayed by his beloved wife. Once his Pokémon heard what happened, they became angered, and swore to seek revenge until the end of their life. However, they were defeated, and it is said that on some nights, they come out as incredibly powerful specters, still willing to seek revenge of the living...

Rules about Spectral Pokémon:

-The regular version of the Pokémon must be in the Discard Pile to be able to play the spectral version (You may not play a Spectral Gengar if Gengar or Gengar EX aren't in your Discard Pile)
-If your opponent KOs 2 of your Spectral Pokémon, he/she takes 2 Prize Cards, and you put the top 2 cards of your deck face-down in your Prize Card zone.
-Spectral Pokémon can't be affected by any Special Conditions.
-After taking 2 Prize Cards with a Spectral Pokémon, discard it. Then, if able, put the regular version of the Spectral Pokémon from your Discard Pile onto your bench, and attach to it all cards that were attached to the Spectral Pokémon

RE: Cursed Legacy: Featuring the Ghost Type for the first time in TCG!

This set looks really creative and unique! How do Spectral Pokémon work out, exactly? A stronger version of megas?

RE: Cursed Legacy: Featuring the Ghost Type for the first time in TCG!

Thanks Reggie! To explain, I'll take S Gengar as an example. To bench it, you need a card with gengar in its name (could be gengar, gengar ex, m gengar ex, s gengar, all 4 work). Apart from that, it works like any other Pokémon, except that it can't be affected by any special conditions, (you're not screwing this up gothitelle :p), your opponent doesnt take a prize when ONE gets KOed. However, after he KOs 2 of them, he takes 2 Prizes, and you put the top 2 cards of your deck in your Prize zone. (Basically: 2KOs= -2 Prizes for opp and +2 Prizes for you) Also, since they only seek revenge, they go back to their grave after having their revenge (taking 2 prizes due to their attack).

RE: Cursed Legacy: Featuring the Ghost Type for the first time in TCG!

With all the hype that Ghost-types have been getting lately from Phantom Gate, this is definitely a well-timed set.

The core mechanic behind Spectral Pokémon is brilliant - only being able to play them when there is a member of its species in the discard pile. That gives them an interesting play niche like Restored Pokémon, and with, say, an Ultra Ball, you could discard the original and immediately search your deck for the Spectral - which is neat interplay with an existing Trainer.

Though, I think you might have actually gone a little overboard with some of the details; playing a card that can easily put you at a 4 prize deficit is a challenge. Granted, if the opponent doesn't have the type to counter you, the Spectral has a pretty good chance of staying until it switches with its normal form (which is a cool mechanic), but the x4 weakness does mean the right card in the right type will blow it.

Even though I'm summarizing the weaknesses, there's also a lot of really strong advantages - as pointed out, the cards are as strong as Megas, if not more so, somewhat easier to get into play than Megas (since it doesn't use up a turn to do so), and the -50 Resistance can fairly well shut out that single type.

I think the best way to balance them might just be to scale back on the unique factors a bit. I know that can be uncomfortable, given that normally original ideas = great, but too many in one place make it almost impossible for players to figure out at a glance how the balance of these cards could compare to the normal kind.

As to my suggestions for a quick fix, though, I think these would help:

+Much lower HP. Rather than having the highest HP of any Pokémon, balance would come a lot more easily if their HP was EX level, possibly even below it. Putting their HP range at about 120-180 would help offset the benefit of immunity to Special Conditions (having all three of high HP, immunity to conditions, and massive attacks means countering them will mostly only be possible in decks specifically designed to do so), and if it survives to tag off with its discarded self, getting an HP boost upon doing so is a psychological win.
+Restoring the regular EX prize rule. Obviously, don't make this change if you're keeping the power level as high as it is now, but the 4 prize deficit thing will always change an entire game instantly, which isn't really good when multiple Spectrals are supposed to share a deck.
+Normal weakness and resistance scaling. If you want to do special things with weakness and resistance, using multiple ones affect gameplay much more visibly and controllably than rescaling them, and it's especially appropriate if the card is multityped.

Thanks Amperglyph! At the start I was thinking about 140 HP for the Spectrals, but I realized that in the current meta many things can 1HKO or 2HKO at worst, so I decided to put it higher. I'm not really sure about why I put that gigantic HP tho, I think I got a little bit excited (first time doing a whole set), but since they are designed to take 2 Prizes and then get out of play, I guess it doesn't make that much of a difference. The x4 weakness was actually only for s gengar, since before this set all ghosts were weak to psychic, and since its ghost/poison I thought a x4 weakness to psychic would do it. I thought about giving 2 weaknesses and resistances, but it seemed too much like delta species to me. Dual type was enough XD, but I guess I'll change that.

RE: Cursed Legacy: Featuring the Ghost Type for the first time in TCG!

The Spectral Pokémon thing is such a creative idea, and the ideas - only play it when the regular one is in the discard pile, switch to the normal form after 2 prizes, they are immune to special conditions - are brilliant... but I think it's pretty overpowered as it is now. While true that you can only take 2 Prize Cards with it, it's not that hard to discard, say, a Gengar EX with an Ultra Ball or something, grab the Spectral and put it in play, take a couple Prize cards with it and end up with a powered up Gengar EX. But the important thing is that if your opponent KOs one of them, they don't get anything for it. A 4 prize swing is big if it ever happens, but it's what would've happened anyway by Knocking Out 2 Pokémon-EX - you just don't have to pay the price until the 2nd one. I think that is a positive more so than it is a negative. You can play one of potentially the highest power level cards in the game and your opponent doesn't even get one prize for it, and they're not even very difficult to get out.

Other thing... if you're supposed to switch it with its normal form from the discard pile after it takes 2 prizes, what happens if at some point during that time I play Super Rod or Sacred Ash and take the normal form out of the discard pile?

This is really cool though, looks like a very creative and interesting set. Looking forward to seeing more cards from it :)

You just discard it, without switching forms. And thanks, I'll change the HP to not make them so OP, and they're OP now, because not all the cards of the set have been made yet. There are some cards that balance them out, they're just not here yet.

RE: Cursed Legacy: Featuring the Ghost Type for the first time in TCG!

Alright, fair enough. Also, I guess I missed the "if able" part of the form-switching mechanic the first time I read through it, sorry about that :p

Actually, that "if able" part was added after your remark XD

RE: Cursed Legacy: Featuring the Ghost Type for the first time in TCG!

Interesting idea!

I'd consider revising the card numbers, though -- the usual order goes in Pokédex order starting with Grass, then Fire, Water, Lightning, Psychic, Fighting, Darkness, Metal, Fairy, Dragon, Colorless. Since you're planning on Ghost Energy, I'm assuming it'll be Basic, in which case I'd put Ghost Pokémon in between Fairy and Dragon.

RE: Cursed Legacy: Featuring the Ghost Type for the first time in TCG!

Oh, I didnt know about that lol. I'll be changing that in a sec.
EDIT: Fixed.

RE: Cursed Legacy: Featuring the Ghost Type for the first time in TCG!

Almost done with the grass types! Also made the first anti-Spectral card

RE: Cursed Legacy: Featuring the Ghost Type for the first time in TCG!

Finally done with grass types! A lot more work than I thought. Will finish the set tho, and maybe make a sequel if you guys like it :p

This is incorrect.
As an actual type, rather than being mixed with psychic, it is correct

Even so, CMP beat Vom to it by several years.

On topic, I do like Spectral Pokemon! They're an interesting mechanic, but I feel it may be better if it wasn't type specific. It just seems a bit limited being a Ghost thing.

RE: Cursed Legacy: Featuring the Ghost Type for the first time in TCG!

Oh, I had no idea of that XD guess I'll change it lol
Also, concerning your comment about it being a ghost thing, they're all dual type XD
EDIT: CMP himself commented here, and didn't say anything XD
