Reccomend and look at books here! Summarize the book and/or series or post a link to one.

I, myself like the Pendragon series. Here is a review of book one.

RE: Book Reccomendations Thread

Captain Underpants. Haha, just kidding. (Though I used to love those books when I was little)

Percy Jackson and the Olympians is a good series. And Lord of the Rings.

I will leave open, even though we already have.

Well, that second one is pretty much dead anyway though. I would recommend:
Pendragon Series (A boy discovers that he is a "Traveler" and can use gates called "flumes" to transport to different worlds.) by D.J. MacHale for anyone 12+
Inheritance Cycle (A boy finds a dragon egg in the woods and becomes a legendary Dragon Rider) by Christopher Paolini for 12+,

Percy Jackson and the Olympians Series(A teenager discovers he is a desendant of the ancient Greek gods) for 10+.

If you're a bit older/more advanced reader, I would definetly recommend:
Charles Dicken's A Tale of Two Cities and other works
Edgar Allen Poe's The Tell-Tale Heart (Short, but really creepy/good) as well as more of his works.

Pendragon, Olympians, Inheritance cycle, all great.
for older books, try
Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe
Tarzan of the Apes by Edgar Rice Burrows
Treasure Island by Roobert Louis Stevenson
More to come.

Percy Jackson

The Hunger Games series (movie comes out soon yo. read up.) I've heard books 1 and 2 were great, but book 3 made people want to discharge pistols into small fuzzy animals. When I get to book 3, I'll update with a new post. Just finished book 1 and it was great.

Whatever the new olympian series is called. The one with the Egyptian gods instead of the greek ones. It's by Rick Riordan, the same guy that wrote Percy Jackson. That series is good too.

For you old people, the Fountainhead by Ayn Rand is a good, but long long long read.

Hunger Games is a great series, spare the last book.

I would read at least the first, especially if you are going to watch the movie.

The Sea of Trolls
The Brotherband Chronicles
Merlin
Alex Rider
The Supernaturalist

These are all great books, I highly recommend all of them.

If you are into Historical-fiction with a little religion I recommend Blood Red Horse and its sequals.

I would recommend reading the Unabridged Dictionary. Although it may be a long read, I find it simply charming. It's great for anyone who has a large amount of free time on their hands.

Let's see....
Whenever I read a book, I find it amazing, a great read. Then when I read it again in a few years, I realize it actually sucked. So I'm not really in a position to recommend anything, am I? Nevertheless, I believe the Vampirate series was pretty good.(But I haven't read that in years, so)Same with Margret Peterson Haddix's Found.

every book in this thread is a YA series or required reading in school ._.

anyway:
Foundation by Isaac Asimov (the origins of pretty much every space opera ever, including Star Wars)
The Beautiful Miscellaneous by Dominic Smith (deconstruction of the coming-of-age story)
Going Bovine by Libba Bray (similar idea to the above, only completely different)
One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez (confusing and meandering, but also brilliant)
Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency by Douglas Adams (it's Douglas Adams.)

also did someone seriously recommend Fountainhead I am going to find you in real life and punch you, and when you ask for a bandage I'll tell you to get it yourself and steal your money

Ayn Rand is the worst writer. the worst. Stephanie Meyer has nothing on Rand, at least Meyer can write a book that legitimately interested large numbers of people. the most Ayn Rand has is a ton of people who hate her book (because it is a poorly written mess created to espouse her personal philosophy that everyone hates) and a small number of people who say that they enjoyed it because they like to seem smart.

maybe Teapot actually enjoys it. but seriously...Fountainhead. awful.

though not as bad as Atlas Shrugged.

Anything by Isaac Asimov, Dune by Frank Herbert, and The Book of Swords Series by Fred Saberhagen
