(1) The 2013 Klaczynski Open [6/26]

That's interesting. It's almost like a second Nationals. I won't be attending as school will have started for me, but seems cool.

This is cool. I definitely support the expansion of third party-run events.

^ that

School unfortunately starts for me shortly afterwards also. I would love to go in future years if this was done again though.

Best 2-of-3 Swiss Rounds (featuring a 75 minute + 3 turn time limit)
This is simultaneously great and horrible. Obviously this is remedied somewhat by being a 2-day affair, but still, the tourney is going to take quite a while, and for people like me who are irritated by how long tourneys can take (and I'm a judge), this can end up being frustrating. I know and can see the reasoning and rationale behind it, and it's a perfectly legitimate reason...it's just long tourneys eeeewwwwwwwwwwwww

Seating for over 300? That's half the size of States. How many people is he honestly expecting to come? Either there's limited seating or he has pretty low projections. Edit: I just noticed that the tournament has an entry fee. That would explain why the projection is so low.

But I think his biggest mistake is choosing to run his tourney in a BW-on format...even if it's BW-Plasma Blast. But that could be a good thing. It's a taste of a format no one will ever see again. ...can't tell if genius or horrible. Edit: I have been informed by Blah that Jason K said the format would be the 2013 Modified Format. This is not implied in the PB news feed.

I know I'm probably coming off a bit negative in this post but that is hardly my intent. I wish Jason and this tournament nothing but the best. I hope it does well enough to encourage him to run more, but not too well so as to discourage him to run more.
...wait...

I can only imagine how much time, money, and effort went into setting this up. I hope his tournament does well. Chicago's only a couple hours from here, so who knows? I might just drop by.

Hey guys! Thanks for the feedback!

You're right that it's going to be a long couple of days! When Kyle Sucevich & I were first brainstorming the idea for this event, we had the same conclusion: We want this event to be different than a regular premier event. If it was the same, what would be the point?

Since Pokémon doesn't cater to competitive players as well as games like Magic: The Gathering, we decided to use Best 2-of-3 at our event and pair that with great prizes. This allows players that practice more chances to show off their skills.

You're right that it definitely makes for longer days, so in order to give players (especially younger ones) a chance to rest, the event will feature not just a Lunch Break, but a Dinner Break as well. The venue is surrounded by restaurants and also attached to a hotel, so these breaks will be convenient for everyone. Hopefully that's enough to keep us awake! :D

I hope to see many of you at the event! Let me know what other questions you have!

Plot twist: booster boxes of are rotated sets no one cares about

I approve.

Too bad I can't go, it's like a trillion miles from Costa Rica, plus I have a SAT-kind-of test the day before... =/

Although I am not a very competitive player, I gotta tip my hat to Jason and Kyle. I'm very impressed that they actually put this all together, and I wish good luck to the people entering.

the grand prize should be a slap on the back, a hand shake, and an emerging powers pack

You noob; that's what the Random Goodness is going to be.

Definitely something I would have loved to attend but I'm all the way in Canada. Hopefully this becomes a success though and maybe it'll become a big enough event to start moving to different locations yearly (i.e Canada :p)
