According to Android Police, those who completed the Google Maps Pokemon challenge on April Fools Day and found all 151 Pokemon will be sent a gift in the mail from Google. Once you fill out your contact information, Google promises to send it in 4-6 weeks. What do you think it will be? Maybe a promo card? A code to download a Pokemon? Something related to Google?

Google has announced a “Pokemon Challenge” for their Google Maps app. If you participate in the challenge, Pokemon will begin to appear all over the map: your goal is to find and capture all 150 of them. The Pokemon Trainers who capture all of them by April 2nd will be invited to Google HQ to battle other Pokemon Trainers for the job title of “Pokemon Master,” as explained in the video below.

To begin the challenge, open the Google Maps app and hit “Search,” where you’ll see a “Start” option with a Poke Ball icon. Pokemon sprites will begin to appear all over the map and you can begin to capture them. Like the real games, you can track your progress with a built-in Pokedex.

So who’s going to capture all of them, defeat all Trainers invited to Google HQ, and then score a “Pokemon Master” job at Google? Will it be you?! Unfortunately it won’t be anyone, as this is Google’s annual April Fools joke (the job part, that is). :p

Pokemon’s YouTube account just uploaded a video labeled as a trailer for Genesect and the Legend Awakened. However, the contents of the trailer showed scenes from old and recent episodes of the anime set to a remix of the “Gotta catch ’em all” Pokerap song from the original season of the show. The trailer was removed almost immediately, but we managed to watch it all the way through and grab a screenshot of the last part of the video, which shows an advertisement for a “GottaCatchEmAll.com” website that is not online yet. At one point in the trailer it showed “XY1012,” which is the release date for Pokemon X and Y, so could this be related to the games? What could this website be for?

Update: Someone managed to grab the video and upload it, as you can see below.

Update (8:30 AM) – I just noticed that if this were a new Eeveelution, it would be the eighth one… and the announcement is being made on the 8th! It’s a Tuesday too, which is an odd day of the week to make a Pokemon announcement. Not sure if I’m looking too much into things at this point though…

Pokemon’s Twitter account posted this literally a minute ago. I totally said this on our Facebook page yesterday afternoon (:D), though it’s possible Pokemon is very much aware of the fact that fans are speculating about a new Eeveelution and purposefully playing to this to trick us.

Trivia time! How many possible evolutions of Eevee are there?

Could they be hinting at a new Eeveelution in light of the announcement coming Tuesday? Ash is currently battling in the Unova League (in Japan) and one of the contenders, Virgil, owns an Eevee and all of its evolutions. Could we see his Eevee evolve into a new Eeveelution during the League? Blaziken was first introduced in the Johto League, after all. There have been many Eeveelution promotions these past few months, and the Genesect movie is also going to feature an Eevee mini-movie, so could this all be leading to a new Eeveelution or is this all just a happy coincidence? I don’t know for sure, but it’s all just a tad too convenient to not be leading up to something in my opinion…

Monday - November 26th, 2012 @ 12 PM PST -  By: Water Pokémon Master

This story doesn’t contain any groundbreaking news and honestly could have been written in July. But since December is coming up, I though I’d put it together now.

Every December, we always find out something new about the next Pokemon movie. And as we found out in July and August, Genesect will be featured in the 16th movie. But Pokemon’s marketing team didn’t bother taunting us with silhouettes, clues, or cryptic messages this time despite Genesect being the last fifth generation Pokemon – they simply came out and told us about the Paleozoic Pokemon. Everyone can already download Genesect too! So why was Genesect revealed so early when there would be a whole year until its movie debut?

For the 14th movie, we found out at the end of the Zoroark movie in July that a little orange Pokemon would be starring in the 14th film next year (later revealed to be the Victory Pokemon, Victini). This was the film’s first “wow” factor at the time since Victini was a new Pokemon. In December, it was revealed that Zekrom would star with Victini in the film. In February, we found out there would actually be two movies starring either Reshiram or Zekrom with Victini (the major “wow factor”).

For the 15th movie, we found out in December that Kyurem and the Musketeers would be the stars (with a hint that Kyurem would have a new forme). In February, it was officially revealed that Keldeo would also be a star (a “wow factor” for those who did not know of Keldeo’s existence [little kids]). In the same month, the real “wow factor” was revealed when Kyurem’s two new formes were unveiled (along with BW2 later in the month). Then in June, the final “wow” factor was Keldeo’s Resolute Forme.

But for the Genesect movie, all of the known “cards” have been played. Genesect has been revealed and there are no other new Pokemon to be revealed with it – no other predictable “wow” factors. Since Pokemon’s marketing decided to reveal it super early (in July), what are they going to do to keep the momentum of the film going until next July? What are they going to advertise in CoroCoro this December, in February, and then in the months right before the film? The marketing for every Pokemon film has always revolved around revealing new Pokemon/formes up until the film’s theatrical debut, but this film doesn’t have any remaining Pokemon to be advertised with Genesect. So what could the film’s “wow” factor be?

Unless the Genesect film is an anomaly and they’ll be doing something unrelated to new Pokemon for its marketing (like, as a wild example, Ghetsis and N are in the film and that’s a huge selling point, or even a new Genesect forme), the obvious answer seems to be that a sixth generation Pokemon will star with Genesect. Other things seem to be leading to the sixth generation coming in 2013 as well. The fact that Meloetta was stuffed into a mini-movie with the Keldeo film this year and then used in the TV show instead of getting its own movie seems to indicate that this generation is purposefully being rushed (Why not pair Meloetta with Genesect for this next film if they’re not moving on to the sixth generation?). Thundurus, Landorus, and Tornadus have already been featured in the TV show in both their forms as well.

The 3DS has been out since February 2011, or about 21 months now, and we’ve known since before Black and White‘s release that Gamefreak itself was one of the first to receive a 3DS development kit. We’ve also just seen the first true 3D Pokemon game released on the 3DS (Mystery Dungeon: Magnagate and the Infinite Labyrinth). Black and White were being developed when the 3DS was first released, so it’s understandable as to why the fifth generation did not debut on the 3DS. The core of the Pokemon franchise are these video games, so it’s not something Gamefreak would have wanted to rush – they would have wanted to experiment with the hardware and find out how to best use it for the franchise.

But now we’re going almost two years into the 3DS’s release and there is still no main series Pokemon 3DS game. 3D would definitely be one of the major appeals of a main series Pokemon game, and this is perhaps why BW2 were not released on the 3DS so as to not rob the next generation of a major “wow” factor (the 3D visuals). This is also why I don’t think we’ll see a Ruby and Sapphire remake before the release of the next main series Pokemon game (if at all, especially since their 10th anniversary just passed a few days ago and Japan is giving out Kyogre and Groudon via downloads between November and January, which they probably wouldn’t do if remakes were coming out since said Pokemon are the games’ version mascots). The sixth generation has to debut on the 3DS to give it that “wow” factor, and releasing yet another main series Pokemon game on the old DS system is simply going to look bad with the 3DS having been out for so long. The clock started ticking a while ago, which is why Pokemon may have decided to hurry with this generation by knocking out Meloetta, moving on to Genesect as quickly as possible, and, as I’m predicting, beginning the marketing for the sixth generation right away.

December’s CoroCoro issue comes out in less than three weeks, and as I said before, we always learn more about next year’s Pokemon movie in December. With Genesect revealed, and going off the pattern of this franchise’s marketing, there isn’t anything else they can do to shock us about the Genesect movie. So will we see the first hints of the sixth generation within CoroCoro‘s pages? There are no other Pokemon to reveal, no formes to reveal (and no future games to hold them), no nothing. Unless Pokemon is going to completely change things up somehow, a sixth generation marketing campaign seems to be the most logical path they’re going to take based on past trends.

Back in December 2009, we first learned about a mysterious “Z” in the title of the 13th Pokemon movie. In early February, its silhouette was revealed, and then CoroCoro revealed Zoroark and Zorua in full later that month. In April the fifth generation games Black and White were announced and then the rest of the year was all about new Pokemon. Are we going to see the same December-February-April pattern coming up?

So what do you think, PokeBeach fans? Is a sixth generation storm coming? Poke holes in my editorial and discuss the above in this forum thread!

Update: It seems that only some items, like books and CDs, can be shipped internationally. Most other items cannot be.

Japan’s Amazon.com has partnered with Gamefreak and Nintendo to open an official online Pokemon Store! The store features over 10,000 Pokemon items, some of which can be shipped internationally. Some of the items found in the store include plushes, figurines, TCG products and accessories (like card sleeves and deck boxes), everyday Pokemon accessories, school supplies, and even a life-size Pikachu doll. The store also stocks items that were previously exclusive to the Pokemon Center stores, meaning that now everyone has access to many of their items!

Japan had an online Pokemon Center store many years ago, as did America, but both websites eventually shut down. Now that Pokemon has partnered with a large third party company, perhaps their sales will be much more successful, especially since everyone can now ship the items directly to their door.

CoroCoro has leaked early once again, revealing a plethora of Black 2 and White 2 information, Best Wishes 2 information, and even new Black Kyurem-EX and White Kyurem EX-cards! We’re still in the process of translating and organizing the information below, so please stay tuned!

CoroCoro CoroCoro CoroCoro CoroCoro CoroCoro CoroCoro CoroCoro

1st Scan

  • Cheren is now a Normal-type Gym Leader, replacing Lenora and giving out the Basic Badge. He is the first Gym Leader while Homika, the Poison-type Gym Leader with the guitar, is the second. (Some of this info comes from the 6th scan.)
  • Bianca gives you your Starter Pokemon on behalf of Professor Juniper. She is now Juniper’s assistant.
  • N has disappeared and nobody knows where he is, including Team Plasma. Team Plasma and the Sages will still be in the game, though in what capacity we do not know yet.
  • Alder appears at the beginning of the game and asks you to come with him.

2nd Scan

  • PokeWood (Pokemon+Hollywood) will apparently involve filming a movie: you pick a scenario, then fight in several Pokemon battles. Perhaps battling against the mecha Tyranitar is how you film part of your movie.
  • Brycen, the Ice-type Gym Leader, has starred in PokeWood movies before.
  • PokeWood will also be featured in the anime on June 7th – we see a screenshot of the mecha Tyranitar battling a Golurk. I bet this will be Luke’s evolved Golett since we’ve seen him making movies in various episodes of the show. Guess they were foreshadowing this for a while without us knowing!

3rd Scan

  • The old designs of the Cloud Trio will now be referred to as their “Incarnation Formes” while the new designs will be called their “Sacred Beast Formes.”
  • All three of the Pokemon keep their same types in their new formes, but their stats are different. Tornadus’ new forme focuses on Defense, Special Defense, and Speed, Thundurus’ focuses on Special Attack, and Landorus’ focuses on Attack.
  • (This isn’t stated in the magazine.) Fan speculation on our forums is that the three new formes are inspired by Aztec legend. Tornadus is Huitzilopochtli, who after it died became a green and purple hummingbird, Thundurus is Quetzalcoatl, who after it died became a serpent, and Landorus is Tezcatlipoca / Tepeyollotl, a jaguar. In the Pokemon AR Searcher screenshot on the left side of the 3rd scan and in the anime poster on the right side of the 7th scan, you can see each of them resembling those animals (a bird, a snake, and a jaguar).
  • Professor Burnett will be the name of the professor in the Pokemon AR Searcher game.

4th Scan

  • As stated yesterday, the “World Tournament” feature allows you to battle past Gym Leaders and Elite Four Champions.
  • So far, Cynthia, Green (Gary), Brock, Misty, Lt. Surge, Erika, Janine, Blaine, Giovanni, Volkner, Steven Stone, and Lance are confirmed participants.

5th / 6th Scan

  • As we knew already, Meloetta will be the Pokemon you can download at the movie theaters when you go to see Kyurem vs. the Sacred Swordsman – Keldeo. It is at Level 15, knows Quick Attack, Confusion, and Round, and comes holding a PP Max.

7th Scan

  • The anime will be renamed Best Wishes Season 2 starting June 21st. There will be an arc featuring the new Sacred Beast formes as well as the return of Dawn, Cynthia, and Pokemon from past generations! Giovanni will return as well and Team Rocket will have a new plan involving Meloetta.
  • Black Kyurem-EX and White Kyurem-EX cards were revealed from BW6 Freeze Bolt and Cold Flare! Their translations are below.

Black Kyurem-EX – Dragon – HP180
Basic Pokemon

[L][C][C] Dragon Fang: 60 damage. Flip a coin, if heads, the Defending Pokemon is now Paralyzed.
[W][L][L][C] Freeze Bolt: 150 damage. This Pokemon can’t use Freeze Bolt during your next turn.

When Pokemon-EX has been Knocked Out, your opponent takes 2 Prize cards.

Weakness: Dragon (x2)
Resistance: none
Retreat: 3

White Kyurem-EX – Dragon – HP180
Basic Pokemon

[R[C][C] Dragon Stream: 60 damage. Flip a coin, if heads, attach a Basic Energy card from the discard pile to this Pokemon.
[R][R][W][C] Cold Flare: 150 damage. Discard 2 [R] Energy attached to this Pokemon. The Defending Pokemon is now Burned.

When Pokemon-EX has been Knocked Out, your opponent takes 2 Prize cards.

Weakness: Dragon (x2)
Resistance: none
Retreat: 3

For those of you who attend the Victini and Zekrom screenings this weekend, you will receive a jumbo Victini card (a reprint of NV #15), a sample Pokemon Black and White Manga, stickers, a Pokedex 3D code to unlock Victini, and a few other leaflets. The list of theaters hosting the movie has now been updated along with links to preorder the tickets – each theater’s website should now have the times the movie is playing.

Cinedigm Prize Pack

As posted previously, Cinedigm has partnered with us to give out a couple of prize packs! The prize pack, pictured right, features a Zoroark: Master of Illusions DVD, a Pokemon Black and White Manga (volume 1), a Black and White drawstring bag, an Emerging Powers booster pack, and a Pokemon the Movie: White poster.

To enter the contest, you simply need to post your opinion of the movie in this forum thread along with the location you attended. If you cannot attend the screenings, you can instead post a link to the ticket website (http://pokemon.cinedigm.com/get-tickets) on your Facebook or Twitter to advertise that Pokemon will be playing in theaters again – as proof of this, you must post a screenshot in the forum thread.

On Monday, I will randomly select three winners to take home the prize pack and will notify them via PM. Cinedigm will then send the winners their prize packs in the mail. Also, Cinedigm is also going to holding their own contest where if you take a picture of yourself standing in front of the Victini poster at your movie theater, you can also win a prize pack, so don’t forget to do so when you attend the screening this weekend!

Yesterday’s episode of Fox’s House referenced Pokemon, specifically Arceus! The episode is called “Perils of Paranoia” and was apparently written by a Thomas L. Moran. The reference is so random you know only a fan could have come up with it (or perhaps his children suggested it to him). I’m glad they pronounced it Ar-see-iss instead of Ar-kee-iss like the 12th movie does since it’s more correct to the original Japanese pronunciation. Now I’m worried, though – if Pokemon fans are already in Hollywood, they’ll try to beat me to my live-action Pokemon movie! Get lost suckas, you ain’t got nothin’ over me!
