Wugtrio, Garbodor from “Ancient Roar” and “Future Flash”

The Wugtrio and Garbodor evolution lines have been revealed from the Japanese sets Ancient Roar and Future Flash, which release in Japan on October 27th. We expect most cards from these sets to be incorporated into Paradox Rift, our November set.

[W][W] Triple Whip: 70x damage. Flip 3 coins. This attack does 70 damage for each heads.

[D][C][C] Venomous Hit: 80 damage. Your opponent’s Active Pokémon is now Poisoned.

More tool drop in the format, don't know if I prefer Garb over electrode or pachirisu though, level ball is too strong, and having rotom as a backup option is a good bonus

Definitely Electrode or Garbodor before Pachi. Pachi requires way too many tools to be worth it, and a second attachment requiring EXP Share constantly. Pachi isn't really that compatible with Rotom either.

Both Electrode and Garbodor have unique attacking types that both hit for good weaknesses so that's kinda a pick-your-poison choice.

Where Electrode has advantages are consistency, supporter momentum, and the option of Rotom V/VStar.

Electrode does better in consistency like you called out with both Level Ball, but also with Miraidon ex. Electrode also does not need to preserve tools in the hand constantly like Garbodor does. It just puts down the tools, and if it needs to play a supporter to keep momentum going it just does that. Garbodor can sorta deal with this through Snorlax, but it doesn't completely remove that issue.

Where Garbodor has advantages are raw damage and bench needs.

The big point at where damage matters for Garbodor vs Electrode is how many tools you need to take down anything bigger than your typical 2-prize basic.

They both need 5 tools to KO 220 HP pokemon.
Garbodor needs 5 to KO a 230 HP pokemon. Electrode needs 6.
Garbodor needs 6 to KO a 280 HP VStar/ex. Electrode needs 7.
Garbodor needs 7 to KO any pokemon bigger than 300 HP. Electrode needs 8.

Like said before, they both hit for good weaknesses that affect some of that math. Garbodor needs far less to worry about getting to 7 tools, but Electrode can squeeze out easy KOs against some of the 280 HP pokemon.

As for bench needs, both of them basically need Snorlax/Leftovers to keep tool count up for sustainable damage over the game, and both need additional basic pokemon to keep going. Electrode also needs a coat rack just to keep tool count up, Honchkrow V. Bench space is really tight with Electrode between all those needs and Miraidon ex. Garbodor doesn't play Miraidon, and doesn't need the Honchkrow.

I don't think there's gonna be a correct answer between Electrode and Garbodor, and you are mostly just picking what are your strengths and weaknesses as a deck. I'd be more inclined to pick Electrode for consistency, but there's still a bunch of things Garbodor has going for it over Electrode.
 
Just play Maractus (before it rotates). Though I guess the energy difference could be significant.
 
Garb is cute, though they keep printing these 'when you play this Pokemon from your hand' abilities like we still have Scoop Up Net and they aren't just going to leave a dead bench space (honestly I think they'll prolly reprint Super Scoop Up sometime soon)
 
I think this is three major sets in a row with a totally not meant to be but actually is. You need to discard 6 tools in order for it to do any significant damage, and with not a lot of tool recovery in the format (at least that gets played) it's hard to say this is any good.

2 Snorlax gives you 4 leftovers every turn. That's 200 damage. With town store and arven, you can get 300 damage each turn with a single prizer for only 2 tool cards. Because garbador works with only one darkness energy, you don't need that many energies. The energies you save can just be translated to tool cards and you're still essentially a normal deck.
