Hi! I know I've said this before but since the format has changed I need to know again.

So, I play ZPST. I have trouble with Donphan Prime though, it''s a lot of my Meta. So, I don't want to make a huge change to my list to counter Donphan but I was wondering if there was any other good counters.

Please suggest HGSS-EP. (For regionals)

This belongs in Competitive Collective. *Moved*

Your 4 Tornadus should be able to handle Donphan fairly well. Donphan+Dragons is a pretty bad matchup, though; it's around a 40-60. There's not a lot you can do for it without basically running an entirely different deck.

Evolite should help you out with that matchup a little when it does come out though (post-Regionals, unfortunately for ZPST) since it makes it so Zekrom needs 5 damage counters to Outrage KO Tornadus, at which point Tornadus can Catcher KO it. Not to mention what Evolite does to Donphan.

All you need is Tornadus. By using Pokémon Catcher to ko Phanpys, and being able to 2hko Donphan, Tornadus is all you need.

Thanks guys.... The thing is that my meta is Donphan and Dragons.... That makes it harder for me to keep the Tornadus up as long....

So, I only play 3 Tournadus ATM, is 4 better?

Definitely. Priority always comes when deciding if you should either attack with Tornadus or Zekrom. Most lists I see run 3 Zekrom and 4 Tornadus, but that's just me being observant. For Donphan Dragons, keep the Donphans out of play, because the dragons rely on the damage from Earthquake to be able to hit hard.

That's just my two cents.

Thanks Yoshi. So, I play 4 Zekrom and 3 Tornadus ATM, so you think I should play 3 Zekrom and 4 Tornadus?

Running 3 Tornadus is fine, but if your metagame is heavily Donphan Dragons infested, then I insist that you test with both versions. I even think running 4/4 is fine, but I would never run more Zekrom than Tornadus, because Zekrom can be recovered easier, and for the most part, it can take more hits. It's completely up to you, though.

I did 3 Zekrom and 4 Tornadus but still lost to Donphan and Dragons. It's a hard matchup either way. You need to know when to attack with Zekrom, and when to use Tornadus. I'd suggest a Revive no matter which way you play so that you can get back an important attacker, and it can combo really nicely with either SSU or Seeker if you play either of those. There's not really a hard counter to Donphan/Dragons for TZPS right now, that's why it's such a good deck. If you suggest a Water Pokemon, there's Zekrom to get an easy prize. Just learn the matchup well and know your options.

I've played ZPST for a few battleroads and what I've learned is that you don't need to change your pokemon line as much, but you need to work out a good trainer engine. I've won many Donphan matches by playing the right trainers. If you play a bit slower, but more consistant ZPST donphan will not be able to keep up as your doing 120 max and they're doing 60 most of the time. The best way to win this match is play defenders and learn when to use them. Another thing is that if your planning to play this for regionals, your deck isn't only going to be against what is in your area.
It also helps to play 4 tornadus though it isn't a must.

I forgot about Defenders *facepalm* yeah, they can really help in this matchup and prevent your opponent from getting OHKOs (just watchout for Rainbow energy adding to Zekrom's outrage).

4/4. Very consistent, plus you get 8 donkers.

I play 4 Tornadus 3 Zekrom. The 4th Zekrom is nice, but often other cards take priority. Also, going for the T1 Zekrom is risky. It's usually the right play, but losing 3 energy right off the bat sucks. A 2nd Switch is what I think I dropped the 4th Zekrom for, just for this reason.

Alright, thank you for the help. I guess I will try 3 Zeks and 4 Tournadus. (The majority rules lol) Also, I don't run Defender, should I run it? And how many?

I would recommend running it, and no less than 2. 2 can often suffice because then you will draw into it semi-regularly, and you can use Junk Arm to get it back after you use it.

Yeah, I run 2 Defender in mine. 3 is a good number, too, since it's not like PlusPower where you can use Junk Arm to chain just one of them.

Hmmmm.... I play 3 Plus Power and should I run 2 Defenders in addition?

Yes, they're both very useful in the deck to help with the numbers. You just have to think ahead to know when to play them.
