I finally managed to get 100 Super Jumps again, this time on the Wii. I have some attachments showing what happens when you get 100 Super Jumps. I also have a picture showing just how much the Attack Scarf and Super Suit combined boost stats.
I fought a Rat Fink in Kero Sewers when I landed the 100 Super Jumps. A Rat Fink that appears in the lower right corner of the screen is the best one to try for. The trick is to hit the button exactly when Mario lands on the Rat Fink. There is very brief pause that occurs between the time that Mario lands on the enemy and the stars shoot off. That seems to be the ideal time to press the button. Since it takes a split second to press the button so that the game recognizes it, it takes a lot of practice timing this.
On top of that, the stars hurt the eyes when you are trying to time Mario's jumps. I actually wore sunglasses to minimize the brightness of the stars so I could focus on Mario's jumps. This requires an enormous amount of concentration on the game, as well as regulation of breathing and blinking.
Getting the Attack Scarf at 30 Super Jumps should be the first priority. Once you can consistently get the Attack Scarf each time you play through the game, then it is time to practice trying to get the Super Suit with 100 Super Jumps. According to the
Super Jumping FAQ at GameFAQs (which is an excellent read, by the way), the Super Suit not only provides a huge stat increase, it also has the effects of the Safety Ring, blocking OHKO attacks and elemental damage.
EDIT: I just thought of something that makes this accomplishment less meaningful for the VC version of Super Mario RPG. When you get to 30 jumps or so, you can just hit the home button on the Classic Controller or the Wiimote to force the game to pause. Then you can just wait until you get your breath back, take a break, and come back to continue your jumping streak. It takes the endurance factor out of the equation somewhat, and reduces it down to timing. So if you REALLY want that Attack Scarf and / or Super Suit, you can just do that, and it will make it a lot easier to accomplish. In some respects, this could be considered cheating, though, as it makes it less significant of an accomplishment.
I just tried it with hitting the home button after every 20 jumps, and I got to 100 jumps again. This is definitely abusing the game.
