Rotation after Worlds 2009-2010

What sets do you guys think will be rotated after this years worlds?

If it is up to Platinum which I personally think it will be, how will Drapion Lv. X be used with no Drapion from any set that is playable? Unless there is one in the upcoming set, or else the cards will be dead, and it would not be able to be used.

I also can't wait for Claydol, and hopefully Uxie to go out, so it it back to like 3-4 years ago when there was no draw power, other than Supporter cards, which made the game more interesting. I see that in the HG/SS set that they have brought back some of the older cards such as Holon Mentor (Pokemon Collector), Professor Cozmos (Emcee's Chatter), Field Worker (Cheerleader's Cheer), the Search engine Professor Elm's Training Method, and kind of Holon's Lass (Interview's Question). These cards were a lot more fun without Claydol, and Uxie the over powered draw engine. With those two cards and some other cards out of the next format, with Roseanne's Research, and Bebe's Search gone too, it will make the game be like 2005-2007 years.

I belive though that the pokemon company is leading up to this though finding out over the years that Claydol, and Uxie will to amazing, and they tried ways to make it be bad, like Power Sprays, 80 Snipe stuff, and stuff to bring it out and do a special conditon. I am not saying Claydol and Uxie were dumb ideas, because over the last few years it was fun, but it needs to come to an end, because newer and worse cards are now out, which calms the game down a bit, but not too much.

It is possable though that it could be LA- HG/SS, since LA did not have that etra year that DP-MD did. I hope this is not what it is though, but please discuss!
 
i'm more wanting sf-on, then again you do have a point with la, incidentally enough it doesn't change much of what i'm hoping to run for city's next year, we'll see in time. cya
 
All I'm gonna say is that If it does end up being HeartGold/SoulSilver-On, expect about half of the game's playbase (If not all) to quit the game entirely. There are some people who would like the format but when it all comes down to it there's very little to work from and only 1-2 metagame decks tops being played besides SP's, Gatr Rain Dance, and Gengar Prime Lost Zone decks.

Ninetales HGSS would be a dead card, as much of the loss of other utility techs like Expert Belt, VS. Seeker, and Bench Shield which helps against snipe. I could see Ursaring Prime being good with Ninetales but it won't be as good with Charizard AR in the current format. HS Unleashed did open doors for new deck ideas, but not enough to be tier 1 as there's stuff that helps teir 2 decks out at the very least.

Players that have already invested or bought cards from the Platinum sets especially those who aren't running SP decks, it would be a big slap in the face to them and Nintendo would lose lots of money and player attendence. I could see Pokemon players just sticking with the video games entirely If it does happen, but at the same time Pokemon Black and White might throw a nasty curveball to players much like what happened in the 3rd Gen.

In the 3rd Gen, the GBA games Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald were not backwards compatible with the original Gameboy games being Red, Blue, and Yellow due to not enough memory to transfer data between the two handhelds and that the GBA games were different in terms of the Pokemon's stat abilities. It just wasn't able to work, however it's more possible for Black and White compatibility on the DS games given that they don't change too many elements of the core franchise.
 
^Very interesting accually, but I don't belive they'd do that, I mean if they choose to, then, you'd be correct, a lot of players would not like this, but yet there is people who would, one being me. :)

Half the population? That's quite a bold statement.
It's like people saying they're quitting when YuGiOh decided to ban specific cards every 6 months. Sure, many quit, but there were still a ton of people that played, and that's because you had a deck that hardly made any drastic changes, unlike Pokemon every single year(most likely).

When the next rotation comes around, there would be HGSS, HSU, and the next one out by then. As far as speculation goes, that third set will be really, really good. Having such a low card count on HSU, I'm sure there will be a ton for this set. They can include all Lost Link cards, all the cards that we just missed, and more.

There would probably be a greater variety as well rather than SP decks, Luxray variations, and Gyarados decks.
Jumpluff, most Prime cards, possibly Legends, Vileplume, Lost Link, and a few here and there.

If they did do it, 1 out of my 3 Pokemon decks (1 surviving being Gatr Rain Dance) would survive Post-Rotation. One of which getting hit the most would be CharPhlosion which makes the best use of Ninetales HGSS without having to run Ursaring Prime as a replacement for Charizard AR.

Gatr Rain Dance will still be around of course, maybe some Crobat Prime variants. I don't really see very many decks being played in a HGSS-On format at least until the next set after Unleashed. Raikou/Entei LEGEND decks could work pretty well but only time will tell.

My main complaint is that I really don't want to tear apart my CharPhlosion deck so soon but whatever, If I can manage to adapt with Gatr Rain Dance then I'm able to stay in for the long haul. I can see Raikou/Entei Legend decks being good post-rotation, and I already see Lost World decks dominating like crazy.

Lost World is arguably more busted than Chaos Gym back in the day, there's just so much power creep riding on it and most of the Lost Link Set cards it's ridiculous and Gengar Prime is another victim of it as well. Gengar Prime will see play, it's already in alot of top decks in the current Japanese Metagame right now.

If they don't cut too many cards in the next set that would be great, I never fully understood why HS Unleashed needed to be such a small set with not very many good cards to work with. 95 cards for an expansion is an extreme cut.
 
I hope they keep Platinum and on... but Yeah I wouldn't mind if they got rid of all the platinum stuff b/c I just started playing the game again and have mostly HGS and soon HGUL :p. I do have some platinum: arceus but nothing spectacular. HGSS reminds me of when i played base set... all this claydol drawing power and so on was a completely foreign idea when i started playing again.
When would we find out what's rotating out? I'm not opposed to the prior sets and even am interested in making decks using cards, my problem is, I'm in a grid lock... If I buy, it'll be by the booster box. I don't want to put 100 bucks down and find out that in a few months I can't use the 360 cards I just bought...
 
Guys what do you think about this Drapion thing? I mean the newest Drapion is from SF. Which if it was Platinum on it would make Drapion an lonely cards that is not usable. I mean all it would be is good for looking at, even though that is all it is good for now, but still.

That's why you build your Modified decks in advance to gear for what will be legal post-rotation, though some people take gambles for a deck in which a new format might not go their way it's understandable.

It's like making a bet at a casino that you stake alot on but instead you lose or keep cards instead. I don't like the idea of not being able to use cards I recently got for a deck that can't be legally used for the next season cause of all the money I spent on it.

But it's one of those things in life you need to adjust. Suck it up or quit...

youre right tho, building modified decks are the key to staying afloat during rotations... unfortunately i can't think of spectacular deck ideas for the HG and HGUL that are so prevalent right now with the DP-on series...

hahaha most ppl who go to casinos don't end up for the better... and when it comes to spending one whole paycheck a month on 720 pieces of cardboard that may or may not have some sort of value in a month, suck it up or quit doesn't quite cut it. perhaps you have hundreds of dollars to throw around after youre done paying rent, car payments, tuition, school books, gas, car payments and insurance, but a lot of poor college kids don't... it's better to wait in my position and that's why i asked when we'd find whats rotating out

honestly J...will you quit with HS-on talk...the likelihood of that happening is about as likely as there being no rotation at all...they are not going to cut down to 3 sets for the start of the next tourney season, leaving many sets not even in the format for a year or a full tournament season even

as I stated before...I like the idea of a LA/SF-on format...LA-on would allow for some interesting combos with cards coming up in the future sets...we would still see Mewtwo Lv. X, just not the MD version of the basic...AMU would still be able to see some play, but we lose the lovely MT Azelf and MT Mesprit...Magnezone Lv. X would still be able to see some play, as would Rhyperior Lv. X...an SF-on format allow for the PT Drapion Lv. X to be able to be playable, I predicted no rotation last year...the main reason being, I had noticed there would be cards that would be unplayable, namely Rhyperior Lv. X and Froslass (LA)...it turned out my prediction was correct, now if it was for the reason I stated, I don't know if that is correct or not...however, I don't believe POP wants to have cards available for play, but unplayable...so I do believe a LA/SF-on rotation is possible

PT-on rotation...with this year's Professor's Cup being a PT-on format, it is highly speculated that this will be format for next year's tourney season...I just hope that it doesn't cut to PT-on...if the meta is losing draw engines...then the cheap Cyrus engine for SPs should be cut as well...let's even the playing a field a bit, and not leave cards like Drapion Lv. X unplayable

RR-on rotation...tbh, this is probably the rotation I would prefer to see happen for next year's format...it takes away the cheap SP stuff, but still leaves them with support, along with plenty SP pokemon to play with...it still rotates out the draw engines that "some" players complain about, among other cards like: Unown G, Machamp (SF), Gengar (SF), etc....leaves plenty of cards from the Lv. X era (the best mechanic this TCG has ever had)...and makes for a well balanced start to the upcoming tourney season in September
 
I've heard rumor that they will drop all sets up through PL.

Back when Arceus set came out, they had stopped releasing SP pokemon to prevent SP's from getting too powerful right?
Well, after rotation, Claydol and uxie will be gone meaning anything non SP will die.

So while SP decks are not getting more powerful, evolution decks are getting weaker as their engine is being ripped out.

There are TONS of decks that are not SP out there; Flygon, Kingdra Prime, Jumpluff, Charizard, CurseGar, ECT.
If they drop sets up through PL, SP decks will be pretty much gone, but there are still a bunch of decks to use as well as a swarm of new decks that will be powerful now.
 
Just letting you all know I'm still crossing my fingers for the HGSS-on rotation, just to call an "I told you so on the internet"

I still personally like the RR-on format the most. Much better and balanced, IMO.
 
^Yup. All these SP decks are broken and unfair. It takes the fun out of the game. They easily win against evolution decks for the most part as they spray claydols and other things. And in mirror matches, it comes down to who gets the first Garchomp C out. Essentially, that means luck.
 
yea, the RR-on format, is the best choice for rotation IMO...now if POP will actually do that, that is uncertain...I hope they do though, just to see a slow down in SPs along with the rest of the meta
 
It has to be La on or there would only be 5 usable sets to go to tourneys with. Though sp decks are cheap, I think they'll be around a little longer.

Ummm... if it's LA-on then we will have 9 sets, not 5. LA, SF, PL, RR, SV, AR, HS, UN, and whatever comes out in August. Plus, we have Promos too.

IMO, I think it is PL on. Think about it. PL began in the Winter sets. Same with HS. If they keep rotating every all of the sets that came out in a certain year, it would be much easier for player's to predict and get ready for the next season. Assuming that PL was remain in, making it PL-next Legend set, after each season the sets from the previous year would be rotated. Much easier and better, IMO.
