If I have a Rescue Energy attached to Dusknoir LV.X, and Dusknoir LV.X is KO'd, can I still activate Dusknoir LV.X's PokePower EctoPlasm and have it become a stadium, or would Rescue Energy return Dusknoir LV.X (and corresponding evolution cards) back to my hand?

Good question. Checking the ruling on Ectoplasm with Lucky Egg (the latter card's post-errata text reads similar to Rescue Energy):

Q. If you have a Lucky Egg attached to Dusknoir Lv.X with the "Ectoplasm" Poke-POWER and it would be knocked out from damage, is Lucky Egg discarded before you get to draw until you have 7 cards?
A. Since the Dusknoir LV.X is not discarded due to Ectoplasm, you do not get to draw any cards for Lucky Egg. (May 27, 2010 PUI Rules Team)

Drawing a comparison to this ruling, my guess would be that you could choose to activate Ectoplasm before Rescue Energy would kick in, making Dusknoir LV. X a stadium and resulting in the discard of all other cards (including Pokémon cards beneath) attached to it. Alternatively, should you choose not to activate Ectoplasm, Rescue Energy *would* kick in.

I would love to hear the thoughts of other professors on this.

Banuffin is correct. The check for Ectoplasm comes before the check for Rescue Energy ('would-be-Knocked-Out' always happens before 'is-Knocked-Out'). If you use Ectoplasm, all other cards are discarded (including Rescue Energy), and you don't get to use Rescue Energy's effect.
