So, here is my mystery surprise! I'm going to let you guys help me create the region (Baloncé) for the Pokedex 2.0 Thread. (Click here for that amazing thread). You guys can work on gym leaders, elite four, bad guys, the region itself, and more!

One of my only requests is to use this layout when making trainers.
Code:

Extra Info: The champion of Baloncé, Reggie specializes in Ghost Type Pokémon. However, he does has his trusty Shiny Draferno as well. His main Pokémon is Xamatter, which is 4 levels above most of his Pokémon. In his past time, Reggie is a smart and friendly scientist who is obsessed with the mysteries of ghost type Pokémon. Him and his Pokémon have a close bond with each other which allows Reggie to access mega evolution[/CENTER]

RE: Pokedex 2.0 - Region Thread!

Locations

Baloncé is a geographically diverse region with a wide variety of locations. Of course, we don't really know what very many of them are yet - can you help? Each numbered box is a city we haven't identified yet, while the numbered diamonds represent dungeons and other places of interest. If you're interested in naming a city, check the spoiler below to see if it has a gym. You can add as much or as little information as you like - check out other posts in the topic to see how people have designed their locations!

Pokémon:
Cotonfly Level 5 (If you picked Waterk)
Flamape Level 5 (If you picked Cotonfly)
Waterk Level 5 (If you picked Flameape)

RE: Pokedex 2.0 - Region Thread!

Love the region design, especially since there's a city pretty much right where I live! :D

I've decided to make two characters: One based on myself, and another based on my sister, hope that's okay :3

Stephen Willow
VSBurgh.png
BurghBWsprite.gif

Elite Trainer
Hometown: Coastide City
Currently living in: Dreamix City

Pokémon:
Ho-Row Lv. 64
ho-oh.gif

Moveset: Fly, Brave Bird, Sunny Day, Solarbeam

Frozentler Lv. 64
xerneas.gif

Moveset: Ice Beam, Megahorn, Horn Leech, Energy Ball

Frosthund Lv. 64
manectric-mega.gif

Moveset: Thunderbolt, Ice Fang, Extremespeed, Thunder Fang

Pompunch Lv. 64
mewtwo-megax.gif

Moveset: Cross Chop, Circle Throw, Force Palm, Drain Punch

Hydrost Lv. 64
regigigas.gif

Moveset: Surf, Waterfall, Crush Grip, Razor Shell

Sacreferno Lv. 66 @Sacrenite
reshiram.gif

Moveset: Dazzling Gleam, Flamethrower, Will-O-Wisp, Moonblast

Extra Info: Once a member of the Baloncé Elite 4, Stephen decided to pursue his dreams of being a world famous journalist. He'll often gather information for his sister, the regional professor Willow, and will not stop until he has his next scoop. Stephen has a powerful relationship with each of his Pokemon, and will do anything to protect them. Despite his norhtern origin, Stephen loves heat, and lives in the southern part of Baloncé. He travels regularly to Kalos, to work with his colleague and good friend Alexa on creating the most glamorous stories.

Professor Maya Willow
Juniper_Xtransceiver_2.png

Professor
Hometown: Coastide City
Currently living in: Phurst Town

Gives out:
Cotonfly Lv. 5
hoppip.gif

Flamape Lv. 5
pansear.gif

Waterk Lv. 5
carvanha.gif

Psigic Lv. 10
uxie.gif

Damakit Lv. 10
zorua.gif

Pankid Lv. 10
tyrogue.gif

Solarinite, Fightapite or Groshanite depending on which starter you choose

Pokemon:
Ballaspark @Ballasparkite Lv. 35
scizor.gif

Moves: False Swipe, Thunder Wave, Thundershock

Chamcha Lv. 5
minccino.gif

Moves: Pound, Tickle

Extra Info: Being the regional professor Maya has to travel all over the region to give out starter Pokemon. She loves to see the smiles, when the young trainers pick their first Pokemon, and even better, when they connect and become friends. Maya studies Mega Evolution, along with Professor Sycamore from the Kalos Region, and she often has to travel to Kalos to compare studies.
*She's not battleable, she just shows you how to Mega Evolve and how to catch a Pokemon :3

Idea for the first route:

Route 1

Pokemon Available:

Cayepiller Lv. 2-4
caterpie.gif

Seedling Lv. 2-4
sunkern.gif

Spea-Row Lv. 2-4
spearow.gif

Chamcha Lv. 2-4
minccino.gif

Trainer Battles:

150px-VSYoungster.png

Pokemon:
Spea-Row Lv. 5
spearow.gif

Moves: Leer, Tackle, Peck

RE: Pokedex 2.0 - Region Thread!

Hey, Reggie, which blue dot did you imagine Phurst Town being? Except for Spain, every real-world country only has one city/town in it, so that makes them fairly easy to describe.

I've got an idea for a city, the only problem is I know where it is on the map, but not when it happens in the flow of events.

What if you start in the southern part of Spain, move over to Italy then to North Europe, then back through Berlin(?) to East Europe, and then the Elite 4 and Champion Reggie are down in the South-East part of the Baloncé Is it bad that it reminds me of Beyonce..?

See the attachment, hope you can read it ^^'

RE: Pokedex 2.0 - Region Thread!

My idea for a Gym Leader:

Marina
VSClair.png
Spr_B2W2_Clair.png

Water type Gym Leader
Pokémon:

Ammonink lv.27
omastar.gif

Scald, Rock Blast, Spikes, Stealth Rock

Gorgeel lv. 27 (ability: Competitive)
gorebyss.gif

Draining Kiss, Scald, Aqua Ring, Soak

Mantaspor lv.31
mantine.gif

Scald, Rain Dance, Mist, Aqua Ring

Extra Info: Marina is the leader of the Water Gym, and whilst she has skill, if she wins she can get quite cocky about it. However, the reverse is also true; if she continuously loses she will start to question her ability. She runs the Coastide City Gym; out of the gym she likes to swim and dive; she partakes in Mantaspor races which she is skilled in.
She is very truthful, and can get an honest answer out of anyone and hates liars. During the story, she has a few encounters with the villainous team which end in her favour.
When defeated, she gives the Tide Badge and the TM for Scald.

My idea is that Coastide City would be a beach town (ala Cyllage) with a beach area, and then a small coastal town by the beach.
Notable things in Coastide:
-obtainable Water Stone
-Surf HM
-Coastide Gym
-some sort of boat service
-Mantasite
My idea was that this city would be where Denmark is on the map (at least I think its Denmark... I'm awful at geography)

I'm thinking this could be the fourth-fifth Gym but that really depends on the whole gym leader levelling of the entire thing. (if it was similar to X/Y then this would probably be the 3rd gym xD)

RE: Pokedex 2.0 - Region Thread!

Really loving your guys' ideas! Phurst Town is supposed to be the town on the left of Spain (Bottom left city). Here's an idea for a town and gym leader!

Trisha

Ballaspark level 45
scizor.gif

Thunderbolt/Bullet Punch/Bug Buzz/Swords Dance

Volzard level 48
@Sitrus Berry
heliolisk.gif

Thunderbolt/Flamethrower/Solar Beam/Parabola Charge

Extra Info: Trisha is the Electric Type Gym Leader of Grenergy City. She is the 7th and second to last gym leader. If defeated, she gives out the TM to Thunderbolt and the Plasma Badge. She also runs the power plant by Grenergy city that is committed to using clean and green energy with the help of Pokémon. There are rumors that a legendary Pokémon (our main legendaries whose names are too long for me to remember) lives underground near the power plant and is stealing the power for its preparation of emerging.

RE: Pokedex 2.0 - Region Thread!

I wanna do a Gym Leader/Elite 4 as well! :D

Pixie
VSArgenta.png

Elite 4 Member
Pokémon:
Hypnozeat Lv. 60
097.gif

Moveset: Hypnosis, Dream Eater, Nightmare, Dazzling Gleam

Witcheerie Lv. 60

Moveset: Shadow Sneak, Hyper Voice, Moonblast, Draining Kiss

Bennedict Lv. 60

Moveset: Play Rough, Hammer Arm, Body Slam, Lick

Porusum Lv. 60
426.gif

Moveset: Will-O-Wisp, Phantom Force, Play Rough, Fairy Lock

Mooslime Lv. 64
cresselia.gif

Moveset: Dazzling Gleam, Moonblast, Flash Cannon, Steel Wing

Extra Info: Pixie is the first Elite 4 member you'll encounter. Despite her rather dark appearence, she is actually very sweet and gentle, and she loves Fairy types. Pixie will do anything to make the battles she battle entertaining, and she may even once in a while switch out a Pokemon for another. She overtook the place of Stephen, when he left the Elite 4.

If you couldn't tell she's a Fairy type master ;)

There are rumors that a legendary Pokémon (our main legendaries whose names are too long for me to remember) lives underground near the power plant and is stealing the power for its preparation of emerging.

Is it Kuraskamai and Purotenshi you're referring to? :)

I'm assuming there's gonna be an icy cave up north, so here's a suggestion for one :)

Icy Cave

Dreamix City
Real-World Equivalent: Ibiza/Mallorca
Resembles: Sunyshore City

The jewel of the sea, Dreamix City is just a ferry ride away from land. During the day, it's somewhat sleepy, but at night it bustles with nightlife and activity. Musicians and Pokémon trainers flock from all over the region to see the island's various tourist attractions.

Places of Notice:
Dreamix City Gym (Resembles Battle Hall, from Sinnoh's Battle Frontier)
Pokémon Musical
Open-Air Market (Night only)

Dreamix City Gym
The bright and colorful Dreamix City Gym burns with a fiery passion. The gym features a single stage, and above it, a platform featuring the emcee, Mikaleya (resembling Morgan from Kalos's Battle Maison). She's there temporarily, replacing the normal announcer; normally, she's at Ultimoak City doing the Pokémon League, but today she came out to support her friend Azra.

Azra herself is the fifth opponent to take the stage; to face her, you first have to defeat her entourage of 4 trainers. You face them one by one, but you can leave the stage in between and come back to fight the same one you were facing when you left. Between each challenge, Mikaleya mixes up the rules, changing the lighting, the music, and, most importantly, the style of battle:

Extra Info: The second Gym Leader, Azra of Dreamix City, may have recently catapulted to international stardom as a recording artist, but she still retains her shy personality, and is often surprised when she is asked for battles, rather than autographs. She grants the TM for Flame Charge and the Spice Badge. When competing in the Pokémon Musical, she often fields an entry of her own, usually her Leoroar, but leaves the hosting duties to more outgoing members of her community.

After the gym battle, Professor Willow will appear on the eastern shore, and ask if you've caught a Water-type Pokémon yet. If you have a Water-type Pokémon in your party (even if it's Waterk/Aushark), she will give you HM03 Surf. She then tells you about your newfound freedom, how you can now traverse the waves of the world and travel back to Normeric City without a ferry, or east out to Frescourse City.

Amperglyph said:
So, in my experience, every region begins with a map. Steffenka got us started with one on the other thread, so I expanded on that, giving it a roughly Kalos-sized amount of content:

MAP IMAGE

I deliberately took France out of the running because, since a whole game just recently happened there, I was hoping to avoid retreading old ground. I chose points of interest based on if there was something notable there in real life; I didn't really have any plans as to where the game begins and ends, and am rather curious to find out people's opinion on that.

Region symbol is a reference to the symbol of the European Union. Like the Kalos symbol, it implies the existence of three regional zones, to help clear up the pacing of the region. Because balance and imbalance are essential to the region, that's why I chose to use 9 stars, so that they can't truly be balanced; a subtle symbol that the regional ideal may actually be impossible.

Obviously, depending on how things go, I'd be more than happy to move some dots around, remove some, add some, whatever's necessary to bring the region into balance.

Why isn't the UK being used? BTW, the south of France and the areas around Calais were ignored in XY.

Excluding France, the other omitted areas of Europe (which also include Russia and Turkey) weren't done with any conspiracy in mind; in the case of the British Isles, they didn't appear in the original region sketch, but I felt removing them altogether would be more questionable than putting them on the map, but assigning no content to them. I did, of course, consider giving them a landmark or two, but ultimately I hit my established quotas on everything far too early to make it work.

As for the missing areas of France, I know that, with the exception of Kiloude City, Kalos is entirely within the northern half of France, leaving the southern half untouched; the main reason for omitting that section of France was because I wanted to concentrate on the Balearic Islands, Corsica, Sardinia, and other Mediterranean isles that the player has to go through when southern France is bypassed.

Ultimately, though, this is a collaborative project in nature, so if you want to suggest a few locations for the game that would lie within the United Kingdom, I'll be sure to add them to the map.

Actually, Russia is in Asia and Turkey is in the Middle East. The Middle East is sometimes counted as Europe, but I think of it as separate, as it's between Europe, Asia and Africa. (Though, Egypt is a part of it, so I guess it counts as Africa?)

You also missed out a huge part near east Italy and south Italy.

I suppose the next region could be more northern, so it includes the British isles, Iceland and the rest of Scandinavia.

I imagine that, back when Pokémon took place entirely in Japan, the Japanese fanbase felt quite similarly whenever a new region was announced; each time it wasn't in your part of the country, there was always the hope that next time very reasonably could be.

RE: Pokedex 2.0 - Region Thread!

Updated the map post - there's now labels on the map to help designate what location you're writing for, and an index of locations so far to make it easy to find what's where.

RE: Pokedex 2.0 - Region Thread!

LOL, I ment city 02 for Phurst town, sorry. Maybe the area where Phurst town is now can be a postgame town?

Here's a new gym leader due to an odd lack of males in authority roles (Reggie is the only male boss so far). He is in a city that I will post about later (with route b2) which is called Normeric City.

Dan:

After the match, Dan gives out TM 17 (Protect) and the Gale Badge

Extra Info: Dan is the first gym leader. He is a serious trainer who has a serious love for flying types. When he is off duty, he is friendly and loves to joke around with his friends. However, he leaves it off the field, and is very serious as a gym leader. He is usually the first gym leader people face, and if they win, they will receive the Gale Badge and TM 17 for Protect.

I know that, Steffenka was the one who asked to put Phurst Town there, and I agreed with that decision. Every region has a two-town buffer before the first real gym, so that's the reasoning behind it. I can move Route B1 to connect Phurst Town to [02] instead of [03] (Which I assume will soon become Normeric City) to get everything back on track.

EDIT: Wait, I realized I could also put Phurst Town on [02], make the other town where Phurst Town is now, then move B2 to be between [02] and the current Phurst Town.

OK, I just don't see why you'd go left, then right. I would alter the path so Phurst town goes to 02 instead of 03, and 02 to 03. That would make more sense to me,

RE: Pokedex 2.0 - Region Thread!

Okay, put up a new map that should fix the starting sector issues, as well as having some miscellaneous refinements to Route geometry.

Also, this is going to be the last Gym Leader I do, 2 (+1 unofficial) is definitely enough for me. I just had a a rather fanciful idea for the region's big city that I wanted to put in writing.

Symmachine City
Real-World Equivalent: Berlin
Resembles: Celadon and Saffron Cities

For many long and turbulent years, Baloncé was split into two regions: East and West. A wall spanned between the two regions, requiring separate starters, Pokédexes, and Leagues. Symmachine City, right on the border between the two, was practically built twice; many of its buildings had to have an equivalent built on the other side. Over time, a gate was built between the two regions here, and it flourished into a regional center of trade and industry. The two regions, seeing how much they could accomplish if they worked together, instead of apart, grew to accept one another, and eventually torn down the wall, merging their two regions.

Today, the clockwork metropolis of Symmachine City still holds much of what made it famous. Though there's no longer a wall for it to go through, the gate between the two cities hosts a variety of street artists and unique Pokémon challenges. The city serves as a melting pot for eastern and western Baloncian cultures, and its rich infrastructure gives it unparalleled shopping and services. Though only one gym is currently recognized by the Pokémon League, it maintains two gyms, the additional one providing an optional challenge for interested trainers.

Places of Notice - West City:
Symmachine City Gym (Steel-type)
Department Store
Restaurant (Single Battle, Double Battle, Triple Battle)
Shiny Pokémon Research Lab
Move Tutors (Blue & Violet)

Places of Notice - East City:
Symmachine Memorial Gym (Rock-type)
Department Store (Different Items)
Restaurant (Single Battle, Rotation Battle, Inverse Battle)
Pokémon Trading Club
Move Tutors (Red & Green)

Transbal Gate
In the middle of the city, the Transbal Gate is one of its most famous and enduring symbols. Several monitors on the walls display important information about things going on in the city and region.

When you first enter it, the power cuts out, causing the entire gate to go dark. Then, the monitors crackle with static, and come back on, introducing a new character:
FloydWords_zpsd7698339.png

Floyd, the Team Shadow leader, remarks on the foolishness of modern Baloncians, that they've let authority figures like the Elite Four and the Gym Leaders tell them that they're all one region, united, when the truth is that, culturally, their birthright is to be two beautiful and powerful regions. He tells the people of the Baloncés to stand up for their rights, and their individuality, and not to be forced any longer into this unhappy marriage of opposites. The transmission ends, and the Gate returns to normal.

On subsequent visits, the Gate features a different rotation of trainers every 6 hours:
0:00-5:59: Police - Horde Battle. Types used: Normal, Fighting, Rock, Steel, Dragon
6:00-11:59: Breeders - Triple Battle. Types used: Grass, Water, Flying, Psychic, Dark
12:00-17:59: Artists - Inverse Battle. Types used: Normal, Fire, Poison, Fairy, Ice
18:00-23:59: Musicians - Rotation Battle. Types used: Grass, Electric, Ground, Bug, Ghost

Trading Club
The Trading club east of the gate has always been richly associated with the three eastern starters: Psigic, Damakit, and Pankid. Trainers from all over the region would try to stop in at some point to get their hands on one of the three. Modernly, that reputation remains, as breeders have continued the art of the trading club, ensuring a future generation can obtain these rare Pokémon:

Move Tutors
There are 2 sets of Move Tutors in the city, the ones in West Symmachine, who prefer Blue and Violet Shards, and the ones in East Symmachine, who prefer Red and Green Shards. You can learn the following moves from them:

Blue Shards (West):
1 - Last Resort, Embargo, or Cut
2 - Block, Magnet Rise, or Pluck
3 - Aqua Tail, Iron Tail, or Psych Up
4 - Foul Play, Gravity, or Superpower

Violet Shards (West):
1 - Nature Power, Round, or Snore
2 - Grass Knot, Hyper Voice, or Snarl
3 - Electroweb, Signal Beam, or Uproar
4 - Heat Wave, Hydro Pump, or Icy Wind

Green Shards (East):
1 - Gastro Acid, Telekinesis, or Worry Seed
2 - After You, Recycle, or Spite
3 - Magic Room, Trick, or Wonder Room
4 - Skill Swap, Snatch, or Stealth Rock

Red Shards (East):
1 - Bounce, Bug Bite, or Covet
2 - Iron Head, Low Kick, or Super Fang
3 - Dual Chop, Gunk Shot, or Megahorn
4 - Fire Punch, Ice Punch, or Thunder Punch

Symmachine City Gym
Upon entering the gym, the attendant tells you that the gym here changes often, as the gym leader, Eisen, is always trying a new experiment. Currently, the experiment is dealing with an automated train system for potential use in the city.

The gym has two floors, the first being a railroad crossing, and the second being a digital monitoring station that looks over the crossing. Eisen is on the first floor, on the opposite side of the crossing; however, the crossing beams are down, and a train periodically rushes through the crossing, blocking your path.

Standing in front of the the crossing is the first trainer, Scientist Gisell. She stresses the importance of observing your surroundings.

After you defeat her, she points out her observation: that there's no reason why a train system would be designed to always block off the road it crosses with. She sends you upstairs to see why it's doing that. Upstairs, you meet Worker Mitt, who tells you to always double-check:

After the battle, he concedes that there is clearly some sort of bug in the system, and sends you to Scientist Bess. She's working the communications room upstairs, and notes the importance of letting someone know as soon as a problem arises:

After the battle, she receives a message from Worker Haft, back downstairs, who believes he's found the problem. When you go downstairs, he points out a faulty switch, which has been sending traffic down the wrong track. He criticizes technology, telling you that sometimes all it takes is a little manual labor to patch things up.

After he finishes repairing the switch, the crossing gates raise, allowing you to get to Eisen. Eisen informs you that the "fault" in the system was completely intentional; his experiment was not to determine whether or not the trains worked, but to see how his team could handle themselves in an emergency.

Extra Info: The fourth Gym Leader, Eisen of Symmachine City, is the youngest person to have ever led the gym, after it was decided that the new leader should have been born after the city was unified. He tends to act old for his age, but often slips up and uses large words incorrectly. He grants the TM for Gyro Ball, and the Alloy Badge. Whenever there's a sale at either of the local department stores, he usually tries to find an excuse to leave the gym early and stock up.

Symmachine Memorial Gym
Unlike its counterpart, the memorial gym does not feature a puzzle; instead, it is nearly identical to the Pewter City Gym (HGSS), having only two trainers to fight before facing the leader.

Extra Info: Ligny was the most recent Gym Leader in Symmachine prior to Eisen, but battling was never his true passion. Since he doesn't have the ability to give out badges, he instead uses his Gym to teach trainers about fossils. Upon defeat, he grants the winner a choice of one of three fossils, and revives it for them. Other fossils found later in the game can also be brought to him for revival.
