Pidgeot Combos

I don't know if there is a thread about this already but I am interested in knowing what people think about Pidgeot and what potential combo's it has.

So the real gem of this card is it's attack is it's first attack headwind which basically makes the defending pokemons attacks {C}{C} more which I personally think is brilliant, considering the amount of low energy decks this rogue card has tonnes of potential, Gyarados would need to use two energies to attack, the only way he could do that is by burning warp and rescue energies, Donphan would need 3 energies for a 60 power attack damaging his bench and Garchomp C LV X would need two DCE to attack.

Being Colorless it can hit Garchomp for it's weakness but it is weak to the LUX part of the Luxchomp duo with lightning weakness but fighting weakness really does make this card a brilliant counter to fighting type decks/if not a stalling tactic

But then comes the fatal flaw which comes to most rogue cards which is in the wording of the attack. Only hitting the defending pokemon means any kind of switch nullifies the effect, and since the attack hits for a measly 20 damage it is almost a waisted turn. And being a stage two it is somewhat slow to set up.

So how can this side effect be prevented, well Victreebel has a body which increases opponents retreat cost by {C}{C} but that is only when it is active so it doesn't work. Dugtrio from platinum hurts the opponent for retreating as a side effect to the switch but that is a band aid solution.

So what do you guys think, I really want to make pidgeot playble but at the moment I cant see a solution, while it will still work on high retreat cost decks like Regigigas and Donphan, and certainly cause trouble for Gyarados. But the first two are not well established as triple A decks and the latter has better counters. So how can we make Pidgeot possible or is it really not worth the bother, and if not what can patch it up for possible league play.

Thank you for your time!

jungle pidgeot with seekers makes for a better card unfortunately. Switch, warp point, and warp energies (mostly warp energy cuz of trainer lock) are all over the place. The counter to donphan fades away if it's paired with machamp prime. It's only really good with gyarados. Which can warp energy, then ssu their active, and since bts is still in rotation, they'll be gyarados attacking for 0 energy right away.

you could pair it with victreebel TR to make their retreat 2 more and maybe vileplume too to block switching trainers.

^^ this next year. since they'll still have warp energy. that seems like a great combo if you could somehow get v-bell active after attacking.

yes, that would seem to work and I do like the idea of adding vileplume preventing the use of switch or warp point, but we would need a way to get victreebel active for it to work

Victreebel's body only works if it is Active. I am pretty sure there isn't a card yet made that let's you retreat straight after you attack, unless it says so in the attack.

However, Vileplume, as you mentioned, is good to stop any retreat or pick up trainers. That means no poke turns, switch, warp point, SSU.

If only Ariados MT was still in the current format.

This could be a combo, but it would need you to have Empoleon SF in a deck.

Here it goes:

Get a Prinplup Active, a Pidgeot on Bench with a DCE, a Vileplume UD in play and some method of retreating Empoleon. Evolve Prinplup to Empoleon SF to deny them of Energy for a turn. Switch out to Pidgeot and use Headwind for an extra {C}{C} in their attack. Therefore, your opponent cannot play Warp energy to retreat, or any trainers. The only way out is retreating manually, but this may not be a problem for your opponent. It all depends on their Active Pokémon's retreat cost.

Of course, if you were to run this, you would need a BTS in play, a Seeker or SSU to pick up Empoleon SF, and a method of constantly retreating your Active Pokémon by either Warp Energy or manual retreating because of Vileplume.

I don't think this is a very good combo, but it could be a little fun to play.

yeah I agree, that is a neat little combo you have there, but unless an awesome new card comes out, pidgeot is not playable competitively, that would be a fun combo for league. I do think it's best asset is vileplume for the moment, it might have a chance in unlimited with ariados but for now it is a binder card, although I wish it wasnt :(

Yep, there are a small handful of them. Here's an example of one.

Another example is Gliscor X. It attacks for 2 energy and for 60, then lets you switch it. I was thinking it would work with Glaceon X to hit and lock.

@DNA
That's what I meant. I know that how I typed it was kinda confusing, but this is what I mean.

I'm pretty sure that there isn't a card that will let Pidgeot retreat straight after attacking.
