Hey, I'm Mokoko, another Pokemon Video Game newbie and I was wondering if I could get some help getting into it. I have Pokemon Online but have very little knowledge on teambuilding and strategy. I do have a little bit of knowledge on EVs/IVs. I've tried to get into it but have given up and gone back to TCG every time :(. I was interested in both VGC and Standard OU. Thanks

Well, to start, welcome to the VG section of the forums! We're always glad to see more people getting started with VG.

Second, if you're a bit rusty on your EV knowledge, feel free to check here for more knowledge: http://www.pokebeach.com/forums/thread-ev-training-guide--102854

You're also going to want to download Pokemon Online as a way of battling other people. It's basically PlayTCG except it's PlayVG: http://pokemon-online.eu/

I find the best way to start playing VG is to simply dive right in, as doing a lot of battles will quickly teach you what you need to know. Here's the list of OU Pokemon, which are like Tier 1 decks in TCG: http://www.smogon.com/bw/tiers/ou

Lastly, I'll be glad to go on chat or Skype sometime to teach you any basics or anything you need to know. Hope you enjoy VG!

Hey Mokoko. Welcome aboard! I don't have much experience with VGC, so hopefully someone else can assist you.

Have you checked out all of the VG articles? They are all built with the Standard OU metagame in mind, and they will help you get a good start. They will definitely explain how to get going better than I ever could. Given what you're looking for, the teambuilding article will help you a lot. Your strategy is entirely dependent on your team, so you'll need to get your team built before you decide on a strategy.

If you'd like some one on one help, send me a profile comment and I can meet you on our Pokemon Online server.

THX guys (especially you Bippa thanks for the team help). Still kinda trying to understand good strategies and lots of the basics (sweeping, walls, etc). Any other help is appreciated!

As far as VGC goes, you can read this thread if you wish. A lot of what applies in VGC can also apply to Standard OU as well, but not everything. (For example, weather strategies are common in both, but Garchomp is forbidden in standard OU.)

This. This is a huge help getting into the metagame and continuing throughout your time of competitive OU. It's basically an analysis of every OU pokemon. Good luck, and welcome to the community!
