On the other hand, it ruins Gholdengo ex and brought my Atlanta run to a screeching halt. I haven't yet decided it was the best play at a major tournament, but depending on the way the meta lines up, Flareon is looking to be a strong play. Flareon ex is one of the best accelerators in the entire format right now, being a Stage 1 with a relatively large HP stat and dealing 130 while searching for two basic energies from deck. Burning Charge is so strong right now, and it's only going to get better when types of Pokemon become more accessible that use the energies Flareon uses.

Ethan's Ho-Oh + Fire Off is still incredibly good specifically for the Fire type, but Flareon fixes acceleration issues for a majority of strong attackers in the format. It only becomes a hassle when you try to incorporate more than three basic energy types, and it makes Crispin more of a ride-or-die supporter than a complimentary one. I'm actually kind of excited to see what happens after it gets Reshiram ex from White Flare.
