Kid Icarus: Uprising

So I just got a 3DS and with it all the obvious titles (Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 7, Ocarina of Time). I was between Kid Icarus and OoT for a while, but I went with OoT because I was guaranteed to get an amazing game. So now I'm looking back and wondering what kid Icarus is like. What are your thoughts on the new Kid Icarus? Is it worth it to buy? I heard the controls are a fairly big flaw in the game. Is this true?

Well, I haven't played it myself, but my friend got more than 100 hours of gameplay into it, so that must say something.

It's an amazing game, and it really gives old-time fans of the series something to brag about. The weapon customization options are innumerable, and the graphics are stunning as well, along with an excellent plot. And yes, if you're going to play this game, controls do stifle you. Your thumb will be sore and your eyes will screaming for mercy an hour into the game, due to the fact that you have to get very close to the screen to play effectively. The 3DS pad and the strange targeting controls make for an uncomfortable feel, which is the reason they included a DS stand with the game.

All in all, the game is great, and I'd recommend it for anyone that has a 3DS. It's just tough to play for long periods of time.

In my opinion, it's one of the best - if not the best game for the 3DS thus-far.

Honestly, I have not had any problems with the controls at all that ShadowLugia has had.

ShadowLugia, how are you holding the system? I put my left index finger on the left button, and my right ring finger on the right button while holding the stylus like a pen.

It changes from person to person, but I hold the stylus with my right hand and move the pad with my left hand. I just have to get very close to the screen in order to see, haha. And half of the reviews of the game that I've seen note the bothersome controls, too, but it shouldn't be a factor in your enjoyment of the game.

This game is definitely one of the best on the 3DS (if not the best so far many attest to) with annoying controls or not. I haven't experienced any problems myself other than having to put the 3DS on a flat surface and bend to play but my hands are usually fine. Also I wrote up at least one post here detailing more about it if you care to dig it up. You definitely can't go wrong with getting it.

Awesome game. I really haven't add any issues with the controls.

I find the game to be pretty funny, and all of the nods it makes to the NES game just makes you fangasm.

The controls are awkward because they're unlike typical games. If you can get used to them, you'll be fine. As mentioned before, weapon customization is top notch and I've heard the multiplayer is solid as well (but I haven't messed with it).

Sweet, I'm going to get it soon. Is there a custom control configuration (alliteration) that anyone uses?

IIRC, I don't think the game has customizable controls unfortunately.

Actually they are, but not very much.

The game is great though. I had absolutely no trouble with the controls, and they were SUPER accurate. The stylus is basically like a computer mouse for consoles once you're accustomed to them. And that, is very good. The gameplay is fun, story is okay (hilarious though, which to me boosts it up to awesome), controls are debatable on uncomfortable or amazing, and Multiplayer is VERY fun. I would say the game is the best Nintendo have put out on the 3DS yet.

Like you can set which button changes powers and uses them. You can use the ABXY buttons to aim instead of the Touch Screen if I'm not mistaken and then there's just the sensitivity stuff. This is going off of a month ago though, I haven't played in a while so I'm not completely sure of what all you can change which was why I didn't want to elaborate too much. I'll check tomorrow and post what you can change here.

You have pretty much complete custom control of what you want each button to do. I sometimes find myself setting the 'use power' button to the R button instead of the down arrow. If you're left handed, you can reverse the controls entirely. The game also has compatibility with the Circle Pad Pro if you don't like the way the touch screen aims. The sensitivity stuff is great too.

As a side note, I think that the music in the game is a reason to buy it alone. I find myself lingering on the menus a lot. :3

The controls didn't bother me a whole lot, my hands cramped up a few times when I played for a long time, but I have huge hands and it's hard for me to play my 3DS sometimes. (which is why I can't wait for the 3DSXL)

I absolutely love this game. It has a good story, well written dialogue and great gameplay. (The OST is also really great, too)

I have been playing Metroid Prime Hunters on DS for a while, so the move to this game wasn't too much of a change for me, as the controls don't differ that much between the two games. If you can play that, then you will have an even easier time changing to this game. Even if you can't play Metroid, it wasn't long before I was fully adjusted to the controls.

But I think that one of the main parts of this game is the Multiplayer. It is very competitive and very rarely do you find a bad player on Wi-Fi.

Well, what do you know. I guess you learn something new every day.

Disregard my post about that then, looks like I'm sorely mistaken. That also means I need to mess around with the game more. x_x

I'm just going to say Porygon-X is right. I couldn't find my game to say what you can and can't change. Oops.
