Is it worth it to upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8?

I acquired a copy of Windows 8 and installed it on a partition on my hard drive. I'm not sure if it's worth sticking with, though. I haven't messed with it much though since I don't want to put a lot of effort into customizing it though if it's not -significantly- better than Windows 7. Thoughts?

I upgraded to 8 for development purposes, but I wish I could go back to 7. Now, I'm typically pretty biased against Microsoft, so take what I say with a grain of salt, but to me Windows 8 is a step backwards from from 7. If nothing else, it most certainly isn't an improvement. If you don't have to upgrade, I would wait for a later service pack. or Windows 9

The only real reason that I can see to upgrade is if you like MS Paint (because that's all they advertise in their commercials lol), or find the Live Tiles exceptionally useful.

I recently purchased a windows 8 laptop and I hated it at first. It's only been a few weeks now and it has really grown on me. It's essentially the same thing as windows 7, except the start menu is organized via apps (sort of like an iPhone) which I'm sure you're aware of by now! I think the design makes things a lot more easier to access and overall it's just a refreshing break from what I've used for a while now (W7). If you don't mind getting used to the new format, it's worth a try. It all really depends on what you define "better" as.

Windows 8 is much faster and boot times are great compared to Windows 7, especially on older machines. However, I haven't upgraded from 7 yet because I'm rather content with my desktop layout. It just depends on whether or not you want to take the time to learn about the new OS.

There are ways to eliminate the "Modern UI" though, if you want to.

I don't like windows 8 unless it's on a tablet or a phone.

I'd stick to 7 if you're on a desktop/laptop.

Windows 8 is essentially windows vista lol. I would stick with windows 7. More support and drivers available and its just better.

I don't particularly care for the layout of Windows8 that my brother's laptop has the couple times I've had to fix it or set it up. I prefer the Start menu to a list of apps. The most important ones you can always pin to the start menu anyway.

Please do not bad mouth Vista, I am still using that on my fourth computer.

Windows 8 upgrade rate is less than Vista's and less than half of Windows 7 was.

Thanks for input, everyone. Looks like I'm gonna be sticking with Windows 7 for a while.

It's essentially an aesthetic change. I would try it out at your local electronics store, and see if you like the new layout. If not, there really isn't anything worth upgrading for functionally.

I have a Windows 8 laptop and I am really confused by it. Where do you access the useless things, the control panel, that sort of thing?
Why do I have a useless tablet format?
Windows 7 is better.
