Pokemon If square enix made a pokemon game

What do you think it would be like if square enix (the makers of dragon quest, final fantasy, and chrono trigger) made a pokemon game?

it would have 3d character models(finally), it would be darker, and maybe even a new battle system similar to ff13

Sounds great (well, except for the idea of enimies attacking while you navigate menus) also: more side quest and maybe a full arsenal of new items.

The pokemon would attack with very big swords or other melee weapons. Pokemon would have paradigms instead of natures, and we'd also probably start referring to them as eidolons.

Square enix also makes alot of love scenes which would be very amazing in my veiw. more 3d, animated characters with a more extense storyline. They also would have made it a much, much, much longer game than your average 10-or-something-hours to complete the game. that would totally be a buy for me. square enix makes the best games. Kingdom hearts is the best. ^^

But how does that suit pokemon... assuming we're still talking about pokemon as we know it, not doing something completely new that just shares the franchise name.

That's debatable. After all, ff13 was quite unpopular. And "quite" is a bit of an understatment too here.

Red would fight with a buster sword and can summon Charizard as Buhamut, dodrio as chocobo and Jynx for shiva.
Dawn would fight with fists and can use her slots limit break when at full health
Brock would just have a huge gun and talk like Mr.T
Lance is a vampire
Oh and everyone would yammer on about lost memories.
And yes if you didn't guess it everything would be real time and better graphics and too much hype to realize it won't be very good.

Square Enix works for Sony. They once made the Mario RPG: Mario and the Seven Stars. The reason no characters, not even the name, could be reused is that Square merged, and will never work with Nintendo again.

Assuming we're not being too literal, the games would come to closely resemble the newer movies with too many lost memories and confusing time traveling and it would stink.

What about this:
Slots in your team could be leveled up depending on how often you switch. It would give different enhancements depending on the pokemon that was in it (I.e. Swiching with a garchomp could benefit attack). Those enhancements could benefit the pokemon in that slot by raising stats based on the use of the slot.
Also, what if there were 6-on-6 battles?

That sort of thing will just make the metagame more complex. Consider that the metagame is already severely bloated thanks to over 400 species of pokemon, just as much attacks, and what is essentially a 17-way rock scissor paper mechanic

I'd rather have real time battles instead of 6 on 6. A 6 on 6 would just be an extension of a 3 on 3 battle. Plus, if it's not in real time, 6 on 6 will have a ton of queuing delays since youd have 12 pokemon executing moves sequentially.

Maybe it's because I skipped on DPPt hands on gameplay due to national service but I don't really know what was so bad about it. I certainly did not see that generation getting abysmal reviews or anything so I assume it couldn't have been that bad to the extent of being utterly horrible, even if it was bad in a way I'm not aware of.

What exactly happened with that generation?

First off, it's highly doubtful at all Square would make a pokemon game. And if it did happen, it would be a spin off pokemon game. (Like the Ranger/Mystery Dungeon games)

So what would happen? 1 percent chance it'd be great, 99 percent chance it'll flunk. It's a really all or nothing thing.

What happened to Pokémate? Wasn't it revealed at E3 and everything, set for a release in the States?

...Also, the 4th Generation is completely amazing. Waaaaay better than the three before it. In all parts of the franchise.

Looking at the Gen IV stuff, a small handful I like among the pokemon. Could say the same for Gen V too. Whether or not the pokemon are uninspired or original is up to personal tastes. Gamefreak already gave us a taste of how uninspired they could be when in Gen 1, they took an upside down voltorb and made that its evo, plus making magnemite and diglett evolve into 3 copies of themselves.

Anime wise, Gen IV was draggy. Actually the whole anime is draggy, which is why I only watch choice episodes. You could probably fit everything thus far into 1.5 seasons if you took out fillers.

TCG wise, I quit a decade ago. I have this theory that people play that up till a certain point where it starts to sink in how much cash they really blew on it, and then they leave. For me that was way back when I was 13.

Plus as far as passing off stuff as new thing is concerned, that's fundamentally how the whole franchise rolls anyway. And Gamefreak can get away with it too, because they command a very solid brand loyalty, just like how Apple fans keep coming back for the next iPhone or whatever. I can assure you, 3-4 generations down the road, we'd still be grinding pokemon in the tall grass, fighting the 8 gyms and defeating the villainous team. And the feeling would never get old for most of us.

An interesting concept. It would be nice to see an rpg segment included in the console adaptation to Black and White created by square enix.

If square enix made a pokemon game.... there wouldnt be much differences, really. Except the fact SE would try to fit a plot in there, and try to make it have good graphics. Oh, and you could only use 4 pokemon(coughfinalfantasycough).

Not nessicarily true you could only use 4 pokemon due to the fact that's how many party members you have in a regular final fantasy game.

Because A: Final Fantasy/Kingdom Hearts isn't Square's only sucess, and B: The Tatics games you have waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyy more than 4 party members- and that is Final Fantasy. And in KH you only get 3 at the most.
