Well since I no longer have a job, I thought I would waste my time re-watching pokemon, I'm on the first series and just wondered if the new ones still have humour in them? I also have no idea what order they go in now either :(

Personally, I decided that I would give the anime a go, since I got interested via the games. I started with Battle Dimension, then Galactic Battles, and have dipped in to random episodes from other series. After watching all of Battle Dimension, I can assure you that the shows are repetitive, unexciting and seem to be aimed at 10 year olds at a very maximum. I was expecting a climax at the end of the series, and the best I ever got was when Hunter J teams up with Team Galactic and steals the pixie Pokemon. I don't know the episode name, but it's pretty much the only exciting one for someone of a similar age to you (in fact, maybe you wouldn't even enjoy that). The films are decent, though. I recommend seeing any of the films, but don't watch a whole TV series. Hope this helps.

RE: Is it still funny?

Hoenn was the worst series in my opinion. That Max and his prepubescent voice realy get on my nerves, and the episodes are all repetitive, as the Pokemon anime always is.

RE: Is it still funny?

That's true too. I just liked the battles at the end where he fights Brandon but that was about it. Jhoto and kanto were cool. My favorite was the orange islands but thats just me.

RE: Is it still funny?

I never actually saw The Orange Islands. As I say, I've seen several episodes of one of the Hoenn series, most of Diamond and Pearl, all of Battle Dimension and Galactic Battles, and some random extra episodes. I haven't seen much before 2006, and I had to catch older stuff on repeat before deeming it a waste of time.

RE: Is it still funny?

I always found the first series funny (in a bad way) but havent seen anything after episode 56, I guess once brock left it really went downhill.

RE: Is it still funny?

I've not seen any episodes without Brock, and what I've seen is bad, so without Brock is either better or even worse than it currently is. I think it's probably better without him. It depends if there's a new Captain Obvious for BW that will tell you whether a move is supereffective or not, or go in vividly about towns that aren't on the actual maps.

RE: Is it still funny?

Yeah, what these guys are saying is true. I mean, I still watch it just because, but it isn't really funny. I mean, Sinnoh was awful in my opinion. In BW it took a very minor jump from totally lame to lame. But as stated above, the films are better.

RE: Is it still funny?

I actually dont mind it being repetitive, i just like it because its funny and even though he was lame he was funny in a bad way ^^

RE: Is it still funny?

I love the Anime! In some of the old episodes it's funny when Jessie from Team Rocket spazzes out. Especially when someone messes up her hair, or someone calls her ugly, Like when Misty called her an old hag one episode.

RE: Is it still funny?

There would be some mornings where if I was up, I would try to watch an episode, but the Sinnoh shows just made me want to change the channel. I think that a lot of the problem is that the lines are just too generic. And, I thought that they could have given Brock such better lines other than things like, "Woah, it was super effective! That will do a lot of damage!" I wouldn't watch anything after the Jhoto seasons...

RE: Is it still funny?

Oh yes, it's definitely still worth watching.
Not counting BW - of which I won't make a statement until I've seen enough of to rightfully do so - I'd say the DP episodes are the greatest in every way, although I'm not too sure if I would call many of them particularly "funny" (though it was no "funnier" before that either, really - I'd dare say it was the exact opposite). In fact, DP episodes tend to get much more serious than those of previous seasons, which is a nice change.

...Anyways. The funniest episodes I can remember are indeed among the DP episodes (being "Where No Togepi Has Gone Before!" and "Get Your Rotom Running"), so I'd definitely say it's even funnier than it was before. Also, every single episode starring Barry is instantly made hilarious, so there's that.
But let's not forget that it all boils down to opinions in the end, and you yourself is the only good judge of your own opinions. I'd recommend you to give some of the episodes I mentioned a chance, at least. :3

RE: Is it still funny?

I've heard everything up until Hoenn was great. I've seen a good chunk of Season 1, have the Orange Islands on DVD, seen a few episodes of Season 2, and one or two from Johto. I still need to see all the movies and I've heard they're all at least decent except for the Giratina one which was meh at best. IMO, Sinnoh was horrible. After about five episodes I started to see a pattern that was quite obvious.

Ash tries to go somewhere->Team Rocket steals their Pokemon-> They blast off-> Ash magically arrives at his destination, even though he didn't do any traveling in the entire episode.

Yeah. Too repetitive.

I haven't seen much from Hoenn, but out of the samplings I've had, the only good season from that era was the Battle Frontier one.

Of B/W, I've only seen one or two episodes so far, and they look much more promising than anything after Johto. I've heard good reviews of them too, you should check them out.

To answer your question, Is it still funny, I honestly can't say much. I've not seen anny episodes for a while, so I'm not sure.

RE: Is it still funny?

Best Wishes/Black and White had the best filler episode so far, IMO (not gonna spoil it for you if you watch the dub only). It's about the 40th or so episode (the numbers have become whacked after the earthquake in Japan cancelling 2 episodes and delaying 1 and all). You'll instantly know what I'm talking about when you look at it.
Though it's not the best season, BW certainly seems the most fresh the anime has been in years. It doesn't have laugh out loud humor, but it still has enough moments that will make kids maniacally giggle and other moments that older viewers will see the humor in.

RE: Is it still funny?

IMO, I think all the series have been fine(speaking from an anime fan point of view). Sure there may have been some dull moments, but the end of each region involved Ash and w/e girl he was traveling with grow in experience.

In terms of character development: Kanto > Hoenn > Sinnoh > Orange

RE: Is it still funny?

I'm thinking If 4Kids were still dubbing the series past Hoenn it probably would've been funnier in terms of dialogue however the BGM would've been better than the way Pokemon USA is handling it right now. The B/W Opening in English is so bad it sounds like they hired grade schoolers to sing it.

We all know that the reason why the Pokemon Anime is repetitive is because it's designed to be a marketing gimmick for the video games and the TCG. The problem is that after Johto the series stopped following the Original Manga Storyline and everything after was and has been filler material.

RE: Is it still funny?

Quality thread.
I vaguely remember enjoying the first season of Pokémon when I was 8 or so.The one with the 'I wanna be the very best' OP.
After that, it quickly went downhill for me. Most of the characters lack any form of personality. The battles...are even more stupid than the VG battles.
There's little to no humour in the series. The new Pokémon and areas didn't refresh the series, they only unnecessarily prolonged it.

But maybe there's some merit to rewatching them, just to see how hilariously bad they are. I rewatched some of the Mega Man cartoon (the one with the derpy looking Mega Man and the obvious puns) and found it very amusing.
But in all honesty, the Pokémon tv series is on a level that's way below that. I checked out an episode of Best Wishes a few months ago and all I could think is: "why?"

RE: Is it still funny?

Okay so for me I watched every single episode until the middle of sinnoh. I just couldn't take how lame it was anymore. And now I've seen some black and white and I feel that they are moving away from the original series fans. I wouldn't watch any after hoenn.
