How Many Alola Forms Do You Think There'll Be?

Hmmm... We know three possible environments:

Strong Sunlight Boosting Plant Growth

Tundra that has Pokemon adapt to it's low temperature

Theory Volcanic that has Pokemon adapt to it's harsh heat

So with the Exeggutor's massive growth I would theorize that Pokemon that evolve from the Leaf Stone and possibly the Sun Stone will have an alternate massive form from the sunlight. So I think that these Pokemon start as their normal sized selves and if you would cause their evolution in the proper environment they will evolve naturally without the stone instead taking their Alola form instead.

I expect Vileplume will become a Grass/ Fairy type with a more pleasant scent. Oddish has the ability to learn Moonblast naturally so I expect the Fairy type change for it's Poison type.

Victreebel being a predator will most likely become even more direct tactics dropping it's Poison type in favor of Fire. Fire typing allows it to not only hunt Bug Types better but even other Grass Types.

Wonder if Sunflora will finally show it's true power? Perhaps it will become a Grass Fire Type as well?

There have been some leaks that mention alternate types for old Pokémon. I will list some of that information here. It is of course unconfirmed but seems likely.

Rattata/Ratticate - Dark type (Presumably the rodent that Yungoos is intended to hunt)
Butterfree - Bug/Psychic (hopefully pink like the one in the anime)
Abra/Kadabra/Alakazam - Fighting (seems weird to me, could be a mistake?)
Growlithe/Arcanine - Water
Nidoking/queen - Poison/Fighting
Doduo/Dodrio - Fighting/Flying
Ninetails - Fire/Fairy (noticeably off but not by much)

apparently Arbok's regional markings are back but I don't know if that relates to typing. Marowak is of course Fire.

It's important to note that while Poliwag and other NFEs may not have Alolan Formes, their evolutions might. I say that because I don't think Alolan Exeggute will be any different from the international one. Thank you and @PineDog for going through the trouble of compiling these lists <3

Hmm, true. The Japanese Alola Forms and Z-Moves trailer implies that Alola Exeggutor evolves from a regular Exeggcute (it shows Exeggcute evolving and then cuts off the evolution footage and shows Alola Exeggutor in battle). So it's possible that some of their evolutions could still get final forms. As far as Poliwag though, Politoed is shown in the Alola Forms and Z-Moves trailer so that would just leave Poliwrath.

Okay so I have a list of possibilities: (I tried to follow some of the ideas above, such as the methods of adaptation (Living near volcanoes, on the icy peak on a mountain, or harsh sunlight)

Growlithe- Grass/Normal
Arcanine- Grass/Bug
Onix- Ice/Water (crystal Onix)
Steelix- Ice/Water
Dratini- Grass
Dragonair- Grass/Electric
Dragonite- Grass/ Electric
Natu- Fire
Xatu- Fire
Trapinch- Grass/Bug
Vibrava-Grass/Bug
Flygon- Dragon/Bug

Well since you asked for it... Here we go!

Cool:
-Growlithe and Arcanine gaining the grass type doesn't sound impossible. It makes sense if they lived in one of those dense jungles. Arcanine being a bug though... not sure on that one.

-Yes! Thanks for the Crystal Onix! I've always wanted that in Pokemon as that episode in the Orange Islands NEVER got explanation! And the typings seem appropriate from where it was living.

-Natu and Xatu could gain this type, but they'd have to keep their Psychic type for this to make sense. Since that's there whole thing.

Neutral:
-Tynamo gaining the water type is a necessity! I still wonder why it never got that from the start! While the steel type confuses me, I could see it learning to adapt to an area with many sunken ships? Or maybe the deep sea with many minerals.

-Goomy's line has always been special to me, and I've also wanted to see him gain the water type. But the fairy type is interesting. I don't know how they could make it adapt, but maybe to lure in different types of prey? I like it!

No thanks:
-Trapinch's whole line has the bug type with two of them being grass. And yes, a Bug/Dragon Flygon would be cool, how would it help it live in other areas?

-Dratini's line gaining the grass type would only work if it adapted to live on land in an area with no water. Otherwise this makes no sense. And why the electric type?

-Snover Line gaining fire? Ice and Fire first of all are polar opposites, and if it migrated to a hot area, then it'd lose the Ice type and keep the grass type.

-Lickitung and Lickylicky. Why would they gain the Ghost type OR the Fairy type? Even if it adapted to live in a ghost town, it would gain the dark type so it wouldn't get attacked by the real ghosts. And if the tongue is why it would gain the ghost type, then it's just plain amusing.

-Why would Klefki gain the Rock type? What would a set of keys adapt to? This Pokemon shouldn't get a new adaptation.

I can't imagine Arcanine would do much good as Grass/Bug, it's not a great type combination and it probably wouldn't make a whole lot of sense. What would be neat is if it become Dragon type, which would make sense since it's known as the Legendary Pokemon and it could be justified as adapting to live in more rugged terrain.

Thanks for the reply!!

My reasoning behind the Dratini line is because in the TCG, they require Grass and Electric energy cards. Same with the Goomy line
The Snover line is because well... Like you said, their polar opposites and I just thought it would be cool
Lickitung and Lickilicky got the Ghost type so they could get STAB from Lick, and Fairy because IMO it feels right
Klefki was pretty random actually lol

I think Dratini might be better as Water because the entire family is usually associated with water or the sea. Maybe Dratini and Dragonair become Water and Dragonite becomes Water/Flying.

Oh, and since Lugia and Ho-oh are hinted to be reappearing in this game maybe they could get Alola Forms as well. Maybe Water/Dragon for Lugia and Fire/Fairy for Ho-oh.

I think it would be cool to see any of the gen 1 Pokémon gen Aloha forms, but more in the case of Ninetales or Exeggcutor and not Tauros....

Dratini, Dragonair and Dragonite would be my top choices for Aloha form Pokémon, maybe a Dive Ball Voltorb and Electrode.

I'll take as many as I can get, the potential with this is huge...just please gamefreak don't make 95% of them GenI -___-

Hmm, it would be a shame if they really are those Types.

Rattata and Raticate IMO should either become Grass Type or become Normal/Dark balls of Fur and have the Fur Coat Ability.

Nidoqueen/king should be Poison/Rock, since their bodies look hard anyway and Rock is a very condensed version of soil (Ground). Doesn't make sense to me to have them become Fighting, since there's never been a Poison/Rock Types before and it would be original. Plus the Nidos remind me of Rhydon.

Butterfree IMO should become pink and be Bug/Fairy Typing. Why would it be Psychic? Fairy makes more sense for pink Pokémon now.

Growlithe/Arcanine... I hope they're not mono Water Types, since there are already LOADS of them anyway. There's literally no place for their Alolan forms.

Doduo/Dodrio seem to have odd Typing, since they're the least Flying-looking Flying Types I can think of and keeping Flying over Normal makes no sense. I also find it strange that they're going to be Flying/Fighting, since they're sharing a Type with Hawlucha and he doesn't look much like a flier either.

Abra/Kadabra/Alakazam Great. Even MORE Mono Fighting Types. :/ Seriously, what's the point of this? Machamp is Alakazam's rival, so why would if give up brains for fighting prowess?

Have you noticed how all of the confirmed and less confirmed Alolan Pokemon are Gen 1? Probably because the only way to get the original forms of them is by transferring from Pokemon RBY.

So.. that begs the question, how many Pokemon are going to get Alolan forms, and do they select them according to them being version exclusive ? Like Sandslash being available only in Red/Blue as well as Ninetales?

IDK, but to me it makes no sense if the ALOLAN forms can only obtained from Gen 1 Pokémon from KANTO.

Oooh. What doesn't make sense for me, is that you can see a regular Arcanine in one of the videos.

Hmm. That is an interesting point. Perhaps it is just a hint to show you that regular forms are still available, but only via transferring them from other regions.

Here are some Pokémon that I'd like to see get Alolan Forms.

1. Rattata and Raticate.
Mainly because I'd like to see more Dark Types to better balance Kanto's broken Type chart. Both learn a good chunk of Dark Type attacks, further proving why a Dark Type subspecies would be logical. I also thought they could be part Poison Type, since rats are known to spread diseases, especially with the devastating Black Death epidemic that plagued the whole continent of Europe.

2. Onix and Steelix
Mainly to reference the Crystal Onix in the anime. They would very likely be Rock/Water and Steel/Water respectively. Mega Steelix does have a lot of crystals on it's body, although it would be difficult to incorporate Mega Evolution with an Alolan Steelix, but the possibilities are endless, and it would not be fair to exclude Steelix if Onix were to get an Alolan Form. They would likely have Clear Body as their Ability, since crystals are very clear in appearance. They might even learn Power Gem to fit the crystal motive.

3. Rhyhorn, Rhydon, and Rhyperior
Since hopes for new Mega Evolutions may be dwindling, I reckon Rhyperior might just get an Alolan Form instead. I'd imagine that both would become Ground/Steel to adapt to a new kind of pressure. The added Steel Typing would do all three Pokémon significant favours defensively. Since both learn Iron Tail and Metal Burst through breeding, they might also learn both moves naturally, as well as the first two stages being able to learn moves like Iron Head and Flash Cannon. Alolan Rhyperior could even learn Heavy Slam to make good use of it's massive weight. I'd imagine that their new armour would now protect the weak spots that left them 4x weak to Water and Grass in the past. The most logical Ability would be Filter.

4. Venonant and Venomoth
You may never know what they may do with Butterfree until more information is revealed, but I think Venonant and Venomoth would be excellent candidates to promote the new Bug/Psychic Type combo through Alolan Forms. Alolan Venonant would have Fluffy as it's Ability, while Alolan Venomoth has Levitate to reduce further complaints of airborne-looking Pokémon not having either the Flying Type or the Levitate Ability.

5. Cubone and Marowak
Mainly because one of the Trial Captains is said to have a Marowak, even though the Captain himself specialises in Fire Types. This is likely going to hint that both Cubone and Marowak will be Fire Types. I reckon both will be Ground/Fire or Rock/Fire to better adapt to the volcanic environments.

Wow! That certainly beings back memories. Let me suggest another approach that might be far from logic, but how about Rock/Electric? The reason I say Electric is because, recalling from the anime mini series featuring Raikou ("the legend of thunder"), they had a big story around a certain crystal called the miracle crystal. In that story, Team Rocket used this crystal to absorb Raikou's lightnings. Giving Onix an Alolan form made of crystal with Rock/Electric type and Volt Absorb as an ability, would be a nice reference to that series.
Although the miracle crystal is purple, so it would not be the same as the original crystal onix. :]

Butterfree IMO should become pink and be Bug/Fairy Typing. Why would it be Psychic? Fairy makes more sense for pink Pokémon now.

Butterfree naturally learns a few Psychic moves which could be an indicator of some dormant psychic powers, and its Alola form could have the full usage of those powers. And I don't really get what you're saying about Fairy being more appropriate for pink Pokemon and therefore a more suitable typing for Butterfree (other than you mentioning Butterfree should become pink)

Even though they're a couple of my favourite Pokemon, I do have to agree with you on Growlithe/Arcanine. Mono water is a pretty common typing and I'd rather see something different done with it. Really hoping it could become Water/Dragon since that's not too unfeasible to see happening, plus it gives it a typing that only two other Pokemon have.

I can see Doduo/Dodrio becoming Fighting; my guess is that they use their legs a lot to fight - maybe there are a lot more wild Pokemon that could potentially threaten it in Alola and therefore they've developed much stronger legs which they use to fight with now?

SO agree with you on the Abra line. It seems pretty unlikely that they'd give up their Psychic type - their actual main type - for something that's pretty much the polar opposite. I could see Psychic/Fighting maybe being a possibility, but not just having the outright Fighting type with nothing else.

Both learn a good chunk of Dark Type attacks,

Well..neither Sandshrew/Sandslash/Vulpix/Ninetales learn Ice moves, or Exeggutor Dragon moves etc.. so I'd lean more towards a Poison Rattata, since Alola forms seem to be taking them into exotic types that essentially overhaul the learnset (unless we find out Ninetales still learns mostly Fire moves or such, but I doubt it), rather than to something that feels natural to the original form already.

SO agree with you on the Abra line. It seems pretty unlikely that they'd give up their Psychic type - their actual main type - for something that's pretty much the polar opposite.

But isn't that exactly what happened to Vulpix? Fire replaced by Ice of all things. Just food for thought :B
