Counter That Pokemon!

Lanturn @ Leftovers
Calm Nature
Volt Absorb
252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
- Amnesia
- Charge Beam
- Surf
- HP Fire

Yeah, I saw those Flash Cannons. They ain't breaking through me.

While yes, Amnesia is a waste with Taunt, chances are they're going to worry more about boosting rather than preventing some unkown Amnesia. Doesn't matter though since it can wear Cobalion down without one.

Gastrodon@Lefites
Storm Drain
Bold 252 HP/252 SPD/4 DEF

Earth Power
Ice Beam
Toxic
Recover

Standard Gastrodon set. Immune to Surf and Charge Beam, and Ice Beam isn't a problem on a SpDef beast like this. Toxic wears the opponent down, along with Earth Power.

nb4 ferro

Politoed @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Drizzle
EVs: 4 HP/252 SpAtk/252 Spe
Timid Nature
-Hydro Pump
-Ice Beam
-Focus Blast
-Hidden Power (Grass)

Doesn't mind poison too much due to being offensive, and can take any other hit from Gastrodon easily while scaring it out/KOing it with HP Grass.

Toxicroak @ Leftovers
Adamant
Dry Skin
244 HP / 252 Atk / 12 Def
- Bulk Up
- Drain Punch
- Substitute
- Sucker Punch

Resists everything bar Ice Beam, which shouldn't do a massive amount with Scarf and Timid (I don't have a damage calc. available at the time). Drain Punch hits the weaker defense, and Sucker Punch is kinda cool against a Pokemon with four attacks.

Gliscor @ Toxic Orb
Impish
Poison Heal
252 HP / 184 Def / 72 Spe
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Ice Fang
- Taunt

Toxicroak is basically set up fodder for this. Taunt prevents Toxicroak from bulking up, Swords Dance as many times as you want, and OHKO with Earthquake (assuming Toxicroak stays in the entire time lol).

I hope you're not trying to suggest that a pokemon that is rated NU by Smogon has no counters outside of Ubers...

In any case, the "checks and counters" section under Smogon analysis for Throh only lists methods of dealing with it within NU - there are tons of counters in UU and OU.

Articuno@Lefties
Pressure
Calm 252 HP/188 DEF/64 SPD

Ice Beam
Roost
Roar
Heal Bell

Articuno's defensive stats are actually really good, the only reason it sits in NU is because of Stealth Rocks. 90/100/125 can easily take a few boosted Ice Fangs from a defensive Gliscor, and even if Taunt comes, it still annihalates with Ice Beam.

Cryogonal @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SDef / 4 Spe
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Ice Beam
- Rapid Spin
- Recover
- Haze

Cryogonal can come in on any attack the aforementioned Gliscor has to offer and then handle accordingly. The easiest way is to just Ice Beam it to oblivion, it is however possible to gain even more out of this exchange, since with the help of Haze Gliscor cannot set up all the way to +6 (+6 Ice Fang is a 2HKO, Levitate means Earthquake won't hit) and Recover helps to regain enough health to not only kill Gliscor but to also succesfully get a Rapid Spin off if the opponent has laid down entry hazards. This makes Cryogonal one of the best counters to this Gliscor set.

Also, there are plenty of options to counter a Pokemon like Throh with without having to resort to the Uber tier, which I thought was really dumb since we agreed on not using Uber Pokemon for this thread. Crobat for example does an amazing job in countering Throh:

Crobat @ Leftovers
Trait: Inner Focus
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature (+Spe, -SAtk)
- Brave Bird
- Roost
- Taunt
- Haze

Crobat can come in on any move but Circle Throw easily and the only reason it can't come in on Circle Throw is because that just forces Crobat out again. However, since Circle Throw has a whopping max damage of 6,17% this means that Throh has to not only hit 17 Circle Throws in a row, he also needs to get max damage on all of them to obtain this much sought after 17HKO. If Throh were to go for a different move or miss once Crobat can kill it with Brave Bird and if Throh wants to set up Bulk Ups Crobat can Haze the stat boosts away and Taunt to prevent it from happening again. Also, if Throh misses Circle Throw, Crobat recovers more with Leftovers than Circle Throw does when hitting max damage, not to mention that Crobat could potentially Roost. Throh does not stand a chance against Crobat.

I think we need to figure out a system that prevents the use of Pokemon that have been used before and that also prevents the use of Ubers, any ideas?

Dusknoir @ Leftovers
Trait: Pressure
252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Spe
Adamant nature
-Substitute
-Pain Split
-Shadow Sneak
-Focus Punch

I chose a Ghost type because what you really want to be doing as a counter is disabling Cryogonal's primary purpose of spinning away hazards. Sponge hits with your tankiness, get into a HP war with Pain Split, and eventually find the time to set up a Substitute (although given Cryogonal's small Defence stat, Shadow Sneak's are going to be taking their toll too).

Would be cool if we ended up using every single fully evolved Pokemon in this thread.

Skarmory (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Whirlwind
- Roost
- Spikes
- Brave Bird
skarmory can take any attack dusknoir has and phaze it with wirlwind after some spikes.

Skarmory @ Shed Shell
Trait: Sturdy
EV's: 252 HP / 44 DEF / 212 Sp.D
Nature: Impish ( +Def, - Sp.A )
- Brave Bird
- Roost
- Taunt
- Spikes

Note - I got Ninja'd So... Here is Infernape1010's Skarmory Counter..

Magnezone @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Magent Pull
EV's: 4 HP / 252 Sp.A / 252 Spe
Modest ( + Sp.A, - Atk )
- Volt Switch
- Flash Cannon
- Hidden Power [ Fire]
- Thunderbolt

- R-C

Please note,

PMJ said:
actually, no mentioning skarmory or blissey ever again. they can counter nearly all attackers of their respective types (except for very few, unique cases), and it's perfectly possible (and fun) to come up with unique counters for pokemon. that's kinda the whole point of this thread.

This is now an official rule of the thread, so let's flex those creativity muscles people. We'll break the chain off at Skarmory and continue again from the previous post:

Dusknoir @ Leftovers
Trait: Pressure
252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Spe
Adamant nature
-Substitute
-Pain Split
-Shadow Sneak
-Focus Punch

Dragonite (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Multiscale
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Dragon Tail
- Thunder Wave
- Substitute
- Roost
dragonite paralizes then then fazes dusknoir away

Lapras @Leftovers
Trait: Shell Armor
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SAtk / 4 Spe
Bold Nature
Ice Beam
Thunderbolt
Rest
Sleep talk

Lapras hits hard with Ice Beam. It also has Rest Talk so Toxic can't wear it down even though Dragonite doesn't have that.

Rotom-H @ Leftovers
Levitate
252 Sp Att/252 Spe/4HP
Timid

Sub
Charge Beam
Overheat
Thunderbolt

Rotom-H can easily come in on both Thunderbolkt and Ice Beam, can sub and either CB up if Lapras stays in or Overheat/Tbolt the switch-in. Pain Split can be used if you want recovery.

Rhyperior (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Solid Rock
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SDef
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
- Megahorn
- Curse
rhyperior can switch in on any of its attacks and hit with a super efective stonedge

Suicune @Leftovers
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP, 252 Def, 4 SAtk
Nature: Bold (+Def, -Atk)
-Scald
-Sleep Talk
-Ice Beam
-Rest
Suicune's great Defense allows it to switch in with relative ease, threaten it with Scald (and the Burn from Scald would be bad for Rhyperior) and Rest/Talk when it (if it) gets low on health.

Slowking @Leftovers
Trait: Regenerator
EVS: 248 HP 252 SAtk 8 Spd IVS: 0 Spe
Quiet Nature
~ Trick Room
~ Psychic
~ Surf
~ Nasty Plot

Will take little to nothing from ice beam and scald, especially with leftovers, and can both set up and take suicune out with a psychic.

Exeggutor @ Leftovers
Trait: Chlorophyll
EVs: 252 HP, 252 SpA, 4 Spe
Modest Nature
- Power Swap
- Leaf Storm
- Psychic
- Sleep Powder

Fire off some Leaf Storms. If Slowking becomes too dangerous or Exeggutor's SpA is too low, employ Power Swap to exchange boosts in your favour. Sleep Powder 'cause it's a good move.

Heatran@Lefties
Flash Fire
Careful 252 HP/252 SPD/4 SPA

Lava Plume
Roar
Toxic
Earth Power

Tanks Leaf Storm and Psychic like a man. Sleep Powder is irritating, but that's all he can really do. Fire a few Lama Plumes and you have burnt coconuts on your hands.
