Hi guys,

this time, I'd like to introduce the problem with “unremovable” special conditions and stuff around them.
So, for example,

if one player has this card, this card or this card in play, and the player's opponent has this Onix in play and the first player use whatever card/attack, that causes any of special conditions (Hypnotox, etc.) and Onix evolves into this Steelix, is the special condition going away?
If that same Onix had grass energy attached to it, then got afflicted, and then this Virizion came into play, would be that special condition removed or not?

Thanks for the answer ;-)

Yes to both questions. Perfect Metal and Verdant Wind remove Special Conditions and prevent them from being placed again.

OK, thanks, DNA, but could you make it a bit clearer – why is that so? Because, at least in the Steelix case, there's written that it can't be affected, but if it already was affected before evolution, there isn't written, you may remove the special conditions, although it is naturally done during the process called evoluiton – but if a card says no removing by evolving or devolving the remove step have to be stopped. You can't affect Steelix be new special condition, but you can't remove the one it had as Onix, if you are binded by the effects of mentioned cards…

In the case of Virizion EX, there's written, that Pokémon with grass energy can't be affected and remove the already caused, but, again, the removing step have to be stopped because of Full Flame/Posion Sacs/etc. effect… only exception in this case is, that Onix don't have to evolve to get rid of the special condition, so if Viri EX comes into play, it is not removing that special condition by evolving or devolving, so I assume, that the special condition is removed by another way, and that is not forbidden by the mentioned cards effect.

Thanks again for the clearing. ;-)

I think the cards are pretty clear - "can't be affected" means just that. The only way for it to not be affected by a pre-existing condition is to remove that condition. The condition isn't being removed because of the evolution/deevolution to Steelix. It is being removed because the Steelix can't be affected by special conditions, regardless of the other three cards' effects.

If a card cannot be affected by Special Conditions, it cannot have any. The clause on Verdant Wind (and Venusaur SV's Aromatherapy) indicates that Pokemon immune to Special Conditions have them removed also. It's the same thing with Perfect Metal; Steelix cannot be affected by them, so they have to be removed.
