Pokemon Action Replay Question

The best way for me to ask this question is to tell the whole story, so here it is: Last Thursday I went to Gamestop to buy an Action Replay. I asked the clerk if they carried them and she responded by repeating the words "Action Replay" in a voice that made me expect her next words to be," Action Replay, what are you, nine? Who still plays with their DS? Let me get you a Xbox, so you can be a real man." but she responded by warning me that they can fry your system. She said that everyone that she has sold one to has come back in a couple of weeks with their DS fryed. I told her that I thought it was just faulty codes that would fry your cartridge but she told me that no matter what it will fry your DS. I want to know your experiences with Action Replays for the regular DS Lite. Was she right and no matter what they fry your DS? Or maybe these kids happened to be using faulty codes, or it was a coincidence that their DS's broke down? What do you think?

My friend went through two action replays and his ds works fine. What ARs can do is spontaneously erase all codes and never accept them again.

Or maybe these kids happened to be using faulty codes,
That is the only answer I can see - they don't know how to use the product wisely. I have only had 1 Action Replay, it has lasted for me over two years, and guess what?
Everything of mine still works fine. You have to use it wisely, knowing when and what to use.

I've had mine for years, and my DS hasn't had a problem. It's using faulty codes that's the problem; just make sure others have checked them to work and you'll be fine.

I used an Action Replay and my DS worked fine, no problems at all. As other people have mentioned, it is probably just faulty codes that may mess up the DS. I would research and see if the codes that you are going to use are safe. Besides that the Action Replay should be safe to use for your DS.

They can definitely destroy the game or even the console even if you use them "correctly". The former has happened to a friend of mine, and I've read several stories about the latter, so...

^I'm not so sure. There's no reason it should; if it works once, it should work every time. If you do the same stuff, you should get the same result. There are a good number of faulty codes online, and it's easy to mess up inputting one into the AR, so I'm not surprised this happens to so many people.

I think that lady was a bit mad.

Used one on a DS Lite for Arceus knows how long, and it's crashed once, when I pulled the cartridge out.

@ FireMeowth then as said..your friend didnt put the code in correctly..his fault

I've been using AR for like..6 years now..0 problems

I fried my first Diamond game with one, along with my first DS.
DO NOT USE THE WALK THROUGH WALLS CODE >:O

NEVAR

^Did you get stuck in an area you couldn't get out of and then save? Cuz don't do that.
Otherwise, WTW has worked fine for me in every game I've used it for. Which is 3 or 4 of them.

I went through three Action Replays and my DS Is in stable condition. It only affects those that use codes such as Walk-through walls.

Oh and if you are wondering what happened to my other two,I accidentally broke them both. +^+

i had a friend who went through two DS's because of those stupied things. there a waste of money. why buy a game and then cheat ur way through it? i wouldn't risk it if i where you.

^I don't plan on cheating my way through tne game, I plan on hacking Pokemon for competitive play, and nothing else.

Don't hack for competitive play. It's not legal or ethical. It defeats the whole purpose of having a tournament.

Says YOU, anyway. I don't want to take 5 days what I could get in 30 minutes.

So you think it's okay to effectively buy your way into a higher place in a tournament? To possibly do better than another player that DIDN'T cheat and instead trained/caught the Pokémon the way the competition intended them to?
And as far as it taking 5 days, that's often not true. You can mod the IVs of a Pokémon in such a way that would take much more than 5 days to get. Then there's the possibility of not catching it.
Take, for example, a Pokémon that appears 20% of the time in a given area. You can either make sure you meet this with the AR, give it 31 IVs in 2 stats, get a 100% catch rate, and then get it in one try. Or you can play the game and not hack for competitive play. A 1 in 5 chance of meeting a Pokémon that has a 1 in 1024 chance in having 31 IVs in the two categories you wanted isn't great. You'll encounter this specific Pokémon once every 5120 encounters in that area. And you may not even catch it after that. And every time you catch one of these Pokémon, you need to check its IVs to see if it has good ones. This process takes a long time, and the AR shortens it to minutes.
The purpose of a competition is to see who made the best team. Not who had low enough morals to spend $20 on a device in order to cheat.

I agree with scizor I just steal the pokemon to help with the pokedex. You should at least IV train truly about 40 to 50 percent of the time to stay legit enough.

Scizor, your post only turned me even more on to using an AR. This thread wasn't about the morals of video games. Besides, it's not like I'm hacking illegal Pokemon. I'm only making a tiresome task easier.
