A new trademark for Ninja Spinner (トニンジャスピナー) has been filed by Pokemon. It's under the same terms as trademarks used for set names in the past.

The name sounds like it could be referring to Greninja. It throws spinning shuriken made of water.

Since future sets will be headlined by Mega Evolutions, this trademark could indicate Greninja will be getting a new Mega Evolution in Legends: Z-A. I previously theorized sets would feature old Mega Evolutions until the release of Legends: Z-A and would move on to new ones afterwards. Could we see a Mega Greninja ex?
Based on the current TCG schedule, Ninja Spinner will be the first set to release after Z-A. We should see it in as early as October. However, trademarks are sometimes revealed out of order, which could push it back further...

Interesting for sure. There’s obviously Ash Greninja but yeah I do wonder if it’s just straight up a new mega and already tied to PLZA. I’d imagine the first set to cover the new game would be Zygarde focused but not necessarily

Rumor has it that the original starters get their Megas. As there is already a potential set for Charizard (Inferno X), Greninja is the next best headliner. It would be the third (fourth) set for the game btw.

So If it is indeed a mega, I assume they will show of that mega before the launch of the game. So it counts as a "known" mega

Absolutely not, mega Gardevoir and Charizard sets, as stated by the article and well everyone, these are just while we get PLZA. No chance in hell they will have anything to do with PLZA that by then is not even out. At best they will reference Kalos but that’s it

They have Megas in it. It’s the whole gimmick of the game. To me, that counts as sets for the game - maybe not in background of the main set, but as an slow approach. It’s also the reason we shift from SV era to MEGA era.

Yeah you'll see the blatant difference. It is very obvious when a set is themed around a game (and new pokemon/forms will start AFTER a certain set). And I mean obviously we are entering the Mega era because of it they just decided to start it a bit before the game itself releases. They probably wanted more sets to cover megas before gen 10 shows up

We are obviously talking about different things here. To me, these sets wouldn’t exist without ZA coming out so they are clearly bound to the game for me. If you define it differently, that’s fine with me :) it’s not of that great importance. It still would/coukd leave Inferno X as the possible first themed set with your definition. Also Greninja is the most popular gen 7 mon - so fitting to come back to your original post. As Zygarde is most likely tied to the ending of ZA, I doubt they would start with that but let people play the game first.

Greninja is gen 6, not 7.

But this set name reminds me of Power Rangers Ninja Steel like when they spin the ninja star to morph.
