Lugia being in the game always seemed likely with the Legendary Birds being reintroduced for no known reason, and with the Sea Spirit's Den. I'm guessing perhaps one needs to capture all 3 birds and have some item (currently unavailable) to summon Lugia perhaps. But it is nice to see more...

RE: Shaking your 3DS to catch Pokémon? Each generation seems to spawn some new theroies of how to catch Pokemon. The one most popular in my group of friends was holding down on the control pad and B together at the sane time as soon as the Pokeball closed... I never had any luck with this however.

RE: HM Usage You'll miss out in a lot of TMs and rare Items if you don't use Surf to explore Azure Bay and the waters off Route 8. And likely deeper into the game, but I haven't made it that far yet.
