As we reported last week, the Van Gogh Pikachu promo distribution will begin this Saturday in the Netherlands (and Game Mania stores in Belgium, for some reason).
We’ve now confirmed chain stores will receive between 25 and 250 copies of the promo to give to customers. The amount depends on the size of the individual store.
Smaller stores will receive either 25 or 50 copies. Intertoys and Media Markt, which are the largest chains, will receive 100 or 250 copies. Both chains have over 260 stores combined.
As expected, some of the stores will be stepping up their security to insure the promotion is handled fairly.
At Intertoys...

Huh, well that's a bit better than what I expected. Here's hoping the security at these events are better than ones in the past.

Also, having a system like the one used at Game Mania would really help curb scalping in other stores. I know Game Stop has its Pro membership but I've never seen it used in this manner.

For stores that deal exclusively with games I think they'll be able to handle it. For Media Markt, which is a massive European chain, I still expect shenanigans.
Also, there is no proof that TPCi or Asmondee organized this "in response" to scalping. Even if people complained en masse to their support, setting up this kind of scheme with massive retailers isn't a matter of two weeks.

We as humans are at the point of arguing about a piece of cardboard with a electric rodent with a hat… yeah that’s society!
Not only that, plenty of people cry for years about a sequel to a game (such as Valve's Half-Life), and I came across a complete idiot that defended a vending machine. His potato chips hanged inside and never fell. His shook the machine and then gave up. I jokingly told him "want me to tear down the machine?" His response: "uh, the machine did nothing wrong." And there are men who are deeply in love with a virtual girl or anime girls in a trading card. Let's see what the 22nd century has to offer.

What's weird is they have said that the card will be available at different chains, but so far only Game Mania and Intertoys confirmed it and it's already Wednesday.

Bruna, Media Markt, and all the rest didn't said anything about this card.

Just noticed that this is regulation mark G, does anyone know of this can this evolve into Raichu?

Also would it really fit into any set… no other Pokemon have a gray hat…

This went surprisingly smoothly. No scalper mania. Went to a mall with several stores offering the promo. Some had long-ish lines. Got there 15 mins before opening and had no trouble getting a card. Didn’t feel like going to another store for a 2nd one but maybe could have. Now hopefully the price drops to about €20 so everyone who wants one can get one.
