I'm also avoiding the plushies and other pokemon related things.
I spend enough on the games as is.

I started the games in Pearl to figure out what my son and his friend were all talking about.
He has since moved on to first person shooter and action games.
I kind of stayed with Pokemon. The anime and movies just never held my interest.
I know I miss a lot of the back story not watching them.

Same for me, but before August. I actually joined last August
