I live in Tokyo. I don't play competitively but I know of quite a few pokegyms around. Singles are really cheap, deck cores are relatively cheap. I wouldn't worry too much. Only thing that you'll find more expensive than in English are trainer cards.

Hey guys! Viral here looking to showcase a fraction of a percentage of my Japanese collection. It's hard to decide what to post here. I currently have 25,000+ holos lying around in boxes that I mainly use as sale/trade fodder, but my true collections are probably my complete blueback (1st ed)...

At the moment, unfortunately not :( . My wants trade-wise are fairly high-end. Once I get a trade thread up I'll let you know, although they're all worth a lot more than the Sycamore card.
