  • mareepasheep, you just reminded me that I need to connect and get the Mewtwo! Another thing I need to go do.
mareepasheep, most of the rulings questions people ask are really really easy. In fact, many of them are repeats. (Been doing this for a few years now, so I know what questions are the most asked. First it was Roserade with Rainbows, then it was Zoroark with Blue Flare, and right now it's Zekrom Bolt Strike with Eviolite/Defender.)

I was just surprised to see the section as I haven't taken the test since February of last year - because you aren't allowed to retake unless you don't have Professor status, OR your existing Professor status is within 2 weeks of expiration...hence my surprise.

When you do pass it, let me know! I should be able to hook you up.
mareepasheep, being a Professor isn't a requirement, but it's recommended. Plus, you get Prof Points and other goodies like that - I think it's something like 25 points when you report a season's results? The exact figures are on the About page of the Prof Program, I know it.

...Ironically enough you actually reminded me to go take the Prof exam myself - my status expires at the end of the month. I only got one question wrong this time, just like last year, but apparently they added a new section on "Core Values". I didn't know about that as it has been just under a year since I last took it, and have been wanting to know how much has changed.

Let me know when (not if, because I know you will) you pass the Professor exam; if you want, you could be the one answering questions in the rulings forum!
mareepasheep, ahaha, a noble pursuit indeed. As long as you have those around you willing to play Pokemon, wanting to start and run a league is a great thing to do.

The exam runs for...45 minutes, correct? That gives you, on average, 67.5 seconds per question. The rulings ones will probably not take much more than 20, but it's those last 20 where you actually have to think - and if you haven't been to that many tournaments, odds are you won't get that many correct. In fact, the first time I took the Professor Exam, those were the areas I didn't do so well on...but fortunately I got a 33, BARELY a passing grade.

How knowledgeable would you say you are about rulings, tourney procedures, and such?
    mareepasheep, 21? Ouch.

Usually, the easiest ones are the first rulings questions (the section of 20 at the start), but the section of 10 right after that (I think it's tourney procedures?) is usually the most difficult, because it requires you have a good working knowledge of what goes on.

However, this link will usually answer all those questions for you, specifically "Tournament Rules" and "Penalty Guidelines".

Just don't ask for help on specific questions on the exam - we're bound to secrecy on that matter, sorry.
